Noh! For me this sound just comes and goes.

My go to Frank as far as pure delight and not too heavy on the head.

Yes... I guess I am completely in the dark as to his work. I believe I surely do have recordings with Holley on bass but have never heard this signature before. While my attempts to hit up A MG go awry I'll have to check back with him later. I will toss out my "theme" guess as having something to do with Quincy Jones???

Re: Disc 2 / Track #9: That there Nat Simpkins is born and raised in the town I live in. At least his name's still in the phone book and all the little mom and pop stores sell his discs at the counters. I've only listened to him a wee little bit and yowsa here is another from far away. Now enlighten me please as to what's going on with that Major Holley solo? Thanks again, Dan, for some good stuff!

I'd toss that JRVG up on the block and get some big bux for it and then pick up the Conn. cause anything has got to sound better than that POS-pillow over your ears-JRVG. (I know the TOCJ does big time)

Daughter's Math Homework - NEED HELP!!!
Man with the Golden Arm replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
But really I think you got something here. How about a dedicated forum to figuring out all things homework related? ...and when the kiddies come to school they can say that jazz changes all things for the positive!!! -

Might that be Edison Machado, Lon? I've seen, from just some very recent surfing inspired by Jim R and Marcoliv, that he thought of himself as maybe more of a Blakey - ... hmmm - but from what I hear he's nowhere near Art. Philly Joe might be a better analogy. I'm sure the others will set this right. BTW I saw that Elis was up for a Latin Grammy last nite but lost out to Maria Rita ? Never heard of her, but did see that XuXi or whatever her name is was there. She kind of the Jacko' of Bahia?

great press. i figured all they would say is "YUMMM!" -
Happened to me on my last order with "One Flight Up". They shipped one thing then socked me with a second ship charge, told me it was my fault for not reading the fine print. I then cancelled all others and told them to go pound. so... try this with them as i got the code from biatching about a bulk porn mailing they did a couple months back. for $10 bux off. not sure if was just specific to me in the code though?

Taking it as it happens... 1- "Summertime" - might this be Dan's old alter ego? Nice groove going here. Some serious work!! 2- Jim R will tell us about this ... Wes is my guess. Shoot, this is a great track! ROTTOMT 3- "(Last Time I Saw) Jeannine". No clue but just a straight up nice read. Eddie Harris? 4- "Ease on Down..." from some Naw'leensian first line group. Cooking, but all's I think of is that hay stuffed white-ish guy dangling bejeweled babies for fake titti shots from French Quarter balconies. Pianist is almost pullin' off a barrelhouse Pullen. 5- "Chicken..." ain't Jimmy cause he would have peppered that intro a bit more...something newish? w/ maybe Papa Lou (guessing here as I remember Dan had a LD on his first test and one always comes back to the scene.) 6- No idea but song is familiar??? hmmm 7- again but not so familiar. 8- ? 9- down and gritty like test disc 1 Gene Ammons sound but has a very recent feel to it. the texas tenor will have it off the mark. And what's going on with that bass solo / nose cello vox??? man that just ruined a perfectly fabulous cut! WTF!! 10-"WWfM"... this could be just about anybody. Is that Gene to close out the whole show!? Lame answers here I know, but will say that the studio boys said "this is a whole lot better than that 'skeleton f*&$!^% music' I usually play" Thanks Dan!!! Now time for peeksees. -
BFT #16 - Disc 1 - Discussion
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Dan Gould's topic in Blindfold Test
Real late on this and have yet to pop #2 into the player... While not looking yet, and won't till I get some more time, I must say this classic slab o grease and then some is very well done indeed. Love the first half. I've seen that the texas tenor is a participant and am very anxious to find out what's going on on here. Sadly I'm not so versed in the who's who of those Holy Sounds (1-6) from the deep lunged so this will be quite an ear opener to me. Here goes... 1-Quebec, Ammons or some other Proper boxed honker??? 2-Nice and greasy... Silver with grits ... needs a proper release fo sho. 3-Chelsea Bridge but that's alls I know. 4-TOMT 5-Yeah baby! TOMT (Saved some Saturday nite grease for biscuit dippin' before church.) 6-Great stuff again... 7-What no grease off the bat and a bone tossed in? 8-Hmmm... a theme here? now I'm confounded even more. 9-A stomper ... must be back on the theme. Great cut! 10-Maiden Voyage done as a late nite organ cover? shoot I have no idea where this is going. Nice read. 11-A smoothed ensemble... I've heard this before somewhere but can't put a finger on it at all. I was going to try and figure out some more here but since I've no got a one I will move on and give a looksee. Thanks to our (con)founding father of the BFT. edit: sp -
