  2. Actually, still haven't "heard' him. Has anyone heard him? Got this from a worldsrecords email... SOUNDS OF YESTERYEAR PAUL BARON / 1944/1945 "Paul who?" is the usual comment whenever the name of Paul Baron is mentioned, yet in his way, Paul was one of the most successful Big Band leaders of the swing era. Why is this so? - because unlike the others, his was not a touring band, not for him the daily struggle of traveling from venue to venue or the monotonous grind of trying to please dance hall audiences, his was a studio band that attracted the finest musicians and backed the worlds finest singers. This rare album of music from 1944/45 includes appearances by Charlie Shavers, Teddy Wilson, Red Norvo, Roy Eldridge, Yank Lawson, Specs Powell and Stuff Smith. [item Code: 57852 CD: $14.00]
  3. You must be old! I remember him as a pitching coach, for the Phillies I think?
  4. Hell, I assumed all rock stars screwed underage girls. I thought that was the point. ← Er, I mean, Jazzmoose, Jazzmoose! all rock stars do not screw underage girls! Elton John didn't! Rob Halford didn't!
  5. Great, timeless question posed by my ex-husband: "Is Courtney Love Mike Love's love-child?" ← And yet you divorced him?
  6. Happy birthday Paul! Buy some jazz! Then, buy some more! Have a great one!
  7. Happy, happy, Happy birthday!
  8. Ancient church found on jail site The site contains a mosaic with references to Jesus Christ Israeli officials say they have discovered what may be the oldest Christian Church in the Holy Land - on the site of a maximum security prison. Israel's Antiquities Authority said the church at the Megiddo jail dated back to the third or fourth century AD and was "a once in a lifetime find". It contained a mosaic bearing the name of Jesus Christ in ancient Greek, fish murals and an altar, officials said. The dig took place near the biblical site of Armageddon in northern Israel. 'Great discovery' "This is a once in a lifetime find and the inscriptions are very rare," excavation supervisor Jotham Tefer told Israel's Channel Two television. A mosaic depicting two fish, an ancient Christian symbol "This is a very ancient structure, maybe the oldest in our area," he said. Mr Tefer added that the discovery could help shed new light on an important period of Christianity, which was banned by the Romans until the fourth century. "Normally we have from this period in our region historical evidence from literature, not archaeological evidence," he said. "There is no structure you can compare it to, it is a very unique find." The Vatican's ambassador to Israel, Pietro Sambi, described the find as a "great discovery". Megiddo is Hebrew for Armageddon, the site which Christian teachings say will herald the final battle before the coming of the messiah. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4411286.stm
  9. I somehow forgot to mention before....If I hear Kajagoogoo's too shy shy(Hush hush, eye to eye) for reasons I can't fully understand, I don't change the station!
  10. I'm that old. And I agree. Okay... here goes... the last time PBS ran the documentary on The Carpenters, I watched it... the whole thing... and... I... enjoyed it. I'll go for the hat trick: I also dig a lot of Andy Williams' old Columbia stuff. BTW, this thread is right along the lines of these: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...uilty+pleasures ← Can't get that thread from your link, but thanks for reminding me of it! It's the tread many folks said they like Gino Vanelli! Weird, the web address seems to show the keyword search used to find the thread...let's see if this link will be clickable for others... http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...1&hl=toto+coelo
  11. I am sooo stealing that for my avatar! (If you don't mind!)
  12. Well they're certainly not audiophile hi-fi, to say the least, but the dude is still just playing up high... all the time. ← I didn't explain myself very well(Something new and different ) I was thinking the higher frequences would distort and that perhaps that was why your ears where bleeding. Then again, Cat Anderson makes my ears bleed at times, so perhaps Al Killian just was playing too high!
  13. Allen, was it Fiddlin John Carson who had a wonderful song about a woman so evil, that even after being killed by her man, she couldn't get into hell?(It's been a few years since I heard it, but it was a killer song, so to speak)
  14. sorry ghost, if I...
  15. Man, I haven't seen an Opel in years. ←
  16. I'd have to double check to see if I have anything with him on cd(Kinda doubt it from the descriptions) but do y'all think that the live recordings might have more to do with the ear hurting quality?
  17. So....do you like Art Tatum?
  18. I too need to chime in and say how glad I am about the Harold Lloyd box set! Keaton is still my favorite silent comedian, but Harold is a close second. (Nothing against Chaplin at all, just the people I like to watch most..he's a close 3rd ) Years ago, when AMC was a movie channel, they ran a bunch of Lloyd films...missed most of them, but I remember so clearly a film where he is on he back of a fire engine going at speed down the road furiously grabbing the unreeling fire hose, to keep from hitting the pavement! (Anyone know the movie?) Like many, I have seen the famous clip from Safety Last, and saw the whole film many, many years ago. Still will make your palms sweat! TCM, in conjunction with his daughter, has run quite a few of his films the last coulple of years. They were already looking beautiful, with really nice listenable scores(Many a silent film has been turned off because of some lame ass score, bet I am not the only one here!) The Freshman, Speedy , Why Worry? his first talkie Welcome Danger are all excellent, but my favorite one so far(He made many more features than Keaton or Chaplin) is For Heaven's Sake Just inspired, smart, amazing, all the way through! At times, his characters have a somewhat meaner disposition than the other 2, and this makes his films hold up better for today's audiences, IMO.
  19. Came out last Tuesday! Have the laserdisc, and it has great sound (Stereo, real, not fake stereo) and picture. Since this part of Fox's studio classics, I am sure it is better than ever, and will have many extras...which aren't mentioned on amazon. Also, Jackie Gleason plays the bassist, and the Nicholas Brothers are on hand as well!
  20. No, never seen him in fact. He never posted an image. I figure he must look like Quasimodo's ugly brother!
  21. So...If you are done killing, you will soon be a reborn Christian. Sorry!
  22. I'd follow her to the end of the galaxy. Where no man has gone before? ← Are you saying since he is gay, his daughter must be a lesbian???
  23. This is my favorite one she did for some reason. Mom didn't even want me to hang it up. When my best friend who has painted on and off for years saw it, he liked it best as well. Mom said it was supposed to be underwater, which frankly, I don't see, it looks more like (but not exactly) outer space.... Too much glare if I photograph it straight on.
  24. Now be nice! 2 of my Mom's paintings. Mom's vision was damaged from her diabetes, couldn't sit or stare for too long. Never tried any painting till she was 60. I think it's kinda cool she was inspired by some aboriginal artwork she saw in some magazines a few years back. Wish she had found an interest in painting sooner. She only completed 3. This is the only one she didn't think sucked completely. She felt she just was copying their art, but I felt she interpreted it, more than just copied it.
