First Wives author dies after plastic surgery Author Olivia Goldsmith who wrote The First Wives Club has died in the US after apparent complications following plastic surgery. The 54-year-old, whose real name was Justine Rendal and whose novel became a 1996 hit film starring Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton, had been in a deep coma for more than eight days. "We are saddened to announce the passing of Justine Rendal," said her lawyer Steven Mintz. "It was her wish to donate organs to provide future life and comfort to others." Mintz told People magazine that Goldsmith had checked herself into a New York clinic on January 7 for "personal, elective plastic surgery" and "something went wrong" during the administration of the anaesthesia. She was then taken transferred to another hospital where she died yesterday. "She clearly died from injuries associated with the anaesthesia problem," says Mintz. "It's very sad. The whole thing is just terrible." Goldsmith recently completed two new novels - Dumping Billy and Casting Off - and was preparing to promote both this year. Dumping Billy is to be published in May. "They are two of the strongest books she's ever written," her literary agent, Nick Ellison, told People. "She is a woman who was coming back into a wonderful, wonderful place in her life." http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_85624...latestheadlines

Did anyone else mention Picasso??? I was never much of a fan, till an exhibit rolled thru Atlanta in the 90's, was so impressed, that when I went out to L.A. later that year, I saw it again....Some Artists just don't come across as well in books as others do...by the way, where are you guys finding the great images? I found many examples of Three Musicians, all terrible, some even with the wrong colors! I saw a link to supposedly the official Picasso site, and it was trying it's damnedest to make me download some file extension!!!

DVD wish list! Films, TV shows, Documentaries

I never thought of that. As a service to any here who are in that situation, let me assure you that it never does really make sense. In fact, it actually gets stranger... While trying to see if I could find the quote of Homer watching Twin Peaks, and saying something to the effect of "Amazing, great, I don't know what is going on" I found this mentioned on the Amazon UK site The box set includes the first season, which comprises of seven episodes of about 45 minutes spread over 3 discs. On disc one however, we are treated to the feature length original pilot (not the famed "European cut" which attempts to wrap up the entire story in a number of minutes) which is a bonus as it was not included on the American box set. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...7384252-9250823 -
DVD wish list! Films, TV shows, Documentaries

There was talk over on the Hoffman forum that a DVD release of season two of Twin Peaks will most likely not happen due to the poor reception (sales-wise) to season one. I was all prepared to make a wisecrack about the first season being really expensive--on top of being less than 'marketable'--but $34 on Amazon is actually pretty good. I must have been thinking of the huge VHS set from several years ago. Regardless, now I know what my next DVD purchase is gonna be...... I posted this awhile back somewhere on this here board, but this link should work...digging around this cool site, I found some other interesting articles, including one posted after >this< one on Twin Peaks season 2 saying the MTM season 2 may come out after all, but signs point to us needing to support our favorite shows IF we know they have come out and buy them right away so the next seasons will see the light of day.... http://tvshowsondvd.com/news.cfm?Month=11&Year=2003 -
If you like all of those, Berigan, be sure to check out Trouble in Paradise, and any other Lubitsch films that come down the pike. There was a great laserdisc box set of them, but they haven't all made it to DVD. Not zany in the same was as the Sturges films (and Palm Beach Story happens to be my fave), but incredibly funny& enjoyable. Adam, they ran Trouble in Paradise on TCM just a few weeks ago! Classic ending, eh? What other films of his were on the laserdisc set? Some of my favorite Lubitsch films are , The Shop Around the Corner , Ninotchka (MGM films, so I guess not to likely to get the Criterion touch) and even though few others seem to like it, Bluebeard's Eighth Wife ! I have heard mixed reviews of Cluny Brown, but would like to see it. Oh, "Desire", which he only produced(Forgot Frank Borzage directed it!) seems to have that Lubitsch touch as well!

Format comes out! Just off the top of my head, I would like to see Mr. 880 starring Burt Lancaster and Edmund Gwenn, who counterfeits 1 dollar bills! Saw it run on Cinemax in the mid 80's (It is on a beta tape somewheres) but don't think it even made it to Vhs! None of the Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers films are on DVD...I read somewhere that the prints were in poor shape(Like most RKO films) and they needed to restore them...which seemed funny since I recall Top Hat, or Gay Divorcee being restored in the mid/late 90's and looking pretty good, but if they can make the films look as good as Casablanca, or the Adventures of Robin Hood, it will be worth the wait! Musicals in general seem to have been left behind on the DVD boom. Judy Garland films such as Girl Crazy, The Pirate, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Easter Parade have yet to see the light of day. Some films I would like to see come out on DVD(they did come out on vhs, and Laserdisc) are the Deanna Durbin films. She about saved Universal, yet is almost completely forgotten today. Some of her films seem pretty dated today(What with them being in Black & White and all!) but First Love, and in particular It Started with Eve(With a wonderfully hammy Charles Laughton) are just plain funny films, with not all that much singing to slow things down. Speaking of Funny, Director Jack Conway directed a few gems, like Libeled Lady(William Powell, Myrna Loy, Spencer Tracy, and Jean Harlow) and Love Crazy(Another Powell and Loy Non-Thin Man film) And talking about funny films, one always thinks of that Comedy director, Alfred Hitchcock! Mr. and Mrs Smith ran the other night on TCM, and damn that is a funny picture! I guess even with Hitchcock's name as a draw, Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery's names are not big enough draws anymore to bring it out on DVD? Well, that's a start at least, didn't even get to the TV shows...what do you guys/gals wish to see come out on DVD????

Thanks for the advice guys! I will check out deleting emails at the server, as soon as I can figure out why my Find message is shot... I do have up to date anti-virus protection, and a firewall....I keep wondering if I am paranoid, and somehow someone at our end clicked something to keep find message from. But see no function like that so far... I did transfer some emails to new folders preparing to uninstall Outlook express, but then I couldn't find the way to douninstall! And I know I did it once upon a time! When I went to the control panel, the only thing that showed up was some outlook express update, same with Explorer, just an update....I used to be able to uninstall programs with no problems, but that was a few years back with Windows 95/98... How do I do this????? I even found I still had some old emails from my Old computer(2002) that with the help of Aloha Bob ,I had managed to transfer and hid...they were still hiding in folders -
Well, since I own only one, my Fav has to be My Man Godfrey ! There have been so many crap public domain versions I was pleasently surprised that they restored it, and it looks great for a film from 1936. Also has a 2 minute blooper reel, and you get a hint of the blue streak of Carole Lombard posessed. Gregory La Cava directed this, and Stage Door the next year, and was more or less done after that, very strange. I want to get The Bank Dick,The Devil and Daniel Webster , Sullivan's Travels, The Lady Eve(Sturges best film, IMO) Black Narcissus (Does this edition finally make it the most beautiful tecnicolor film ever?) some day. I briefly owned Beauty and the Beast(Found it used) but it was out of print at the time, so I sold it for a pretty Penny! If I remember correctly, the print they used was not all that great, is the original missing? I do find their prices too high for the most part. Yet some films, like The Bank Dick, or Hopscotch are listed at $29.99, and the 2 Killers films are the same Average $39.99. I know you can get them for much less on the web, but still $40.00 in store for just one film is pretty damn steep......

damn, but you guys were fast! I was curious if he did record more than Allmusic was aware of(Shocked, simply shocked that they could be wrong! ) Perhaps he will pick up the sticks again....of course, I just know Artie Shaw will come to his senses any day now and record once again!
-
Was listening to the cd Stan Levey 5 this A.M. and was shocked to find out it was his last recording,(1957) and that he then retired in the 60's! Was he tired of the road? No more chances to record? He just seems too good a drummer to just stop playing(At least this is what allmusic says)

Oh, did you guys hear that Vlad signed with the Angels??? Espn just said Guerrero had signed, and I thought, Pedro is going to be a coach??? Angels got him "fairly" cheap, (5 years, 70 mil) he is certainly half the player A-Rod is....Oakland is in trouble this year! If only there was something to be excited about with the braves this year! Well, time to be a turncoat, and root for the Cubbies again!

See Wrigley!!! I saw it about 20 years ago, and it is well worth seeing, besides, some day they will tear it down. Who cares about a new baseball stadium anyway?

To start at the beginning...The other night we got a seemingly typical fake ebay send us your passwords email, and I was showing my Dad how to forward the email to spoofs@ebay.com when all of the sudden in the to: bar this happened without hitting any key ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, No way to forward this email! Bastards In fact, not just that email, but any email could not be forwarded! So, shut down computer, same thing. So, since I have windows XP, I used system restore, went back a day, no more problem. Next night, Saturday, I get a bunch of fake emails from earthlink. But wait, I try to delete them, and instead each and every one of the 10+ fake emails brings up a pop up window from McAfee saying something about a virus, and to back up some files. Didn't write it down (I know, stupid!) and kept on with the slow deleting process....thought I would again use system restore and be done with it. Well, I did check for viruses again, found none, made sure I was updated with the latest antivirus updates then went back in time. I didn't notice any problems, computer is still fast, no wacky cursor behavior, BUT now when I use my find message (Very important with my business) I get nothing back when I do. I still have the many emails in folders. I have made sure it is in the top folder, not just the inbox, no dates are given to limit a search, I have looked all over to see if there was some box, somewhere that could be clicked off, can't find any(Could be missing something of course) I contacted earthlink's chat support early this morn, and told them my problem. They want me to put a higher spam filter on my system(I worry about customers trying to contact me and having to jump thru hoops, and if they don't understand english well, will they even get the set up?) and then told me to do this.... The following will guide you through repairing Internet Explorer 6 when running Windows XP. Please be advised you will need to close all browser windows (including this one and EarthLink 5 if you're using it) to proceed, so you may want to write down or print these instructions: 1. Click on Start. 2. Go to Run. 3. Type SFC /SCANNOW and hit Enter. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions Please follow these steps and that should resolve your issue. No onscreen instructions show up, just a little window and it takes about 10 minutes to make sure windows is ok, and just finishes. Still can't make my find message work! I went to Microsoft to see if there was a newer version of Outlook, or explorer to download, there was not. I still tried to download and reinstall, but no dice. Help! Please! If this is the future of spam, we all are going to have a lot of problems in the future.
