Universal Frankenstein films on DVD
BERIGAN replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Oh Yes, a classic for sure! It is still out on DVD. Strange, great that this set has so many films, but I wish they would toss on some extras! Here is what came with the now out of print DVD edition of Frankenstein. http://dvdmg.com/frankenstein.shtml Oh, by the way, when did they add back Colin Clive's famous line that was edited out, "Now I know what it feels like to be God" I had heard a while back that it was lost forever! I know they added back the footage where the Monster kills the girl, but I could swear that a few years back his line was not there, just the lip syncing. I saw it run on TV a month or so ago, and I was shocked to hear the line! Has it been on the tapes, DVD's all along, and I was still seeing old copies on TV? Or did I just think it wasn't back in? -
I told you, Carole is my choice for V.P.!

Beer....water! Used to drink tap all the time in St. Louis, seemed they had great tasting tap, better than the water I tasted on trips to L.A. or Florida....Moved to Jacksonville, Fl and damn that was some horrible water, you wash your car, and forget to dry the windows, it would dry spotted , and would not come off easily, even with Windex! so had to drink bottled water (Cheap store brand) Moved to Atlanta, thought the water was much better than the tap in Jax, so drank it for the last 10 years...lately though...the tap has gone downhill. Tastes as pool water tastes, except pool water wouldn't taste as chlorinated. Using a Brita filter works fine, except they turn pink(The white plastic parts) in short order , before the filter is used up, and makes you want to drink water with all that chlorine(but, looking on the bright side, my teeth have never been whiter!) So, are others here forced to drink expensive bottled water, instead of the "free" stuff?

You know, perhaps I have seen too many Quincys and Crossing Jordans in my day, but wouldn't you think it would be pretty easy to tell the difference in stab wounds that were self inflicted(It would seem to me they would be horizontal) verses someone else coming at you with a knife that was vertical? Plus, I would think someone else plunging the knife would go deeper than you doing it yourself....

You know, I just checked out their site for the first time in months yesterday, and noticed the first link was to the board...had the same thought as you did....

I'm sure everyone has been thinking of getting this DVD! Anyway, my Dad is a fan of Alice Faye, and they never have shown this film on TV, as far as I know..Have been thinking of getting it for more than a year, so got it for my Dad for Christmas, and watched with my Dad...man, what a bad film! The DVD was made from the only known copy of the film, but it is no lost classic. The copy is terrible. It was made at Fox studios before it became 20th Century Fox (Many of the Fox films are lost today) It looks like it was made for 5000 dollars. It makes Monogram films look like MGM films! They have a "comedy" duo who knock themselves to the ground, that was their act.I'd go into more detail, but why? ....It sucks.....Now, I just need to find some sucker to sell it to who thinks it might be interesting!

Forget Ty Cobb. Kenesaw Mountain Landis is in there, and he denied Black players the opportunity to play in the major leagues for as long as he was commisioner. If he belongs, why not Pete Rose? That's the cynical side of me speaking. Another part of me thinks that the Baseball Hall of Fame means something to people (including me), and that a bum like Pete Rose doesn't belong there. You can make as good an argument for Shoeless Joe Jackson to be in the Hall of Fame as you can for Pete Rose. Man, Ty Cobb might have even shot a black guy, he clearly had mental problems....Cap Anson, with some help from other bigots stopped blacks and Native Americans from playing, even though they had been playing for years. And you already spoke of Kennesaw Mountain Landis . Yet there is no movement to get them thrown out. So Pete bet on his team to win. So what??? Managers who didn't have a dime on a game, have overused pitchers, not given guys days off when they really needed it, because of their burning desire to win....you don't have to bet on your team to push too hard I guess everyone her is a choir boy, and never speeds, jaywalks, underreports income, or God forbid, bet on a football game. That IS illegal you know!

Never owned, nor shot a gun.....Funny thing, both my parents learned how to shoot a gun, Mom said she was pretty good at target shooting....I don't feel the need to own a gun at this time, BUT if I(Or my Family) ever felt truly threatened I want the right to own one......
-
Kick Cap Anson out, and put Pete in....by the by, I am pretty sure he didn't bet on the reds to lose...if he did, he shouldn't get in.....

97-Year-Old Iranian Rescued From Quake Rubble Saturday, January 03, 2004 BAM, Iran — For nearly nine days after an earthquake demolished her city, 97-year-old Sharbanou Mazandarani lay trapped under furniture and crumbled masonry, passing fear-filled days and cold nights. Mazandarani was not ready to give up. And on Saturday, dogs trained to detect humans in rubble located her and rescuers dug for three hours to pull her out of the rubble unhurt. "God kept me alive," the petite, wrinkled Mazandarani said as she lay on a bed in a makeshift hospital in Bam, covered to her chin with a blue blanket and a brown print scarf tied around her head. Rescuers said she asked for a cup of tea soon after her rescue — and then complained it was too hot to drink. Normally people can survive up to three days in the rubble of an earthquake. It was unclear whether Mazandarani had food or water while she lay trapped under the ruins. "No one expected her to be alive. It's a miracle," provincial government spokesman Asadollah Iranmanesh said. Her rescue was not the only bright spot in the aftermath of the Dec. 26 quake. On Saturday, U.S. doctors said they had delivered four babies at a makeshift hospital. Meanwhile, the death toll rose to about 35,000, Brig. Gen. Hoseyn Fat'ahi of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (search) told Iran's official news agency. He said the injured numbered 17,000. Figures for the overall dead have varied according to differing estimates of the number of bodies still under the rubble and thousands of unregistered burials. A situation report by the U.N. Disaster Assessment Coordination Team (search) warned that many survivors were suffering from psychological disorders after the deaths of their loved ones and the destruction of their homes. "Post-traumatic stress disorder is highly prevalent," the U.N. report said. On Friday, the U.S. field hospital operated on a young Iranian soldier who tried to commit suicide by shooting himself after discovering the quake had wiped out his family. "If we don't pay the best attention to this, it will lead to more cases of depression, suicide and other mental health problems," said Dr. Mohammad Farojpour, the head of Kerman province's mental health department. French and German aid groups were flying in a total of 130 psychologists and psychiatrists to counsel survivors, the U.N. report said. The Iranian Red Crescent Society (search) has already deployed 40 women counselors to Bam. The 6.6-magnitue quake damaged beyond repair up to 85 percent of Bam's houses and buildings, the report said. Camps of tents with heating are being erected around the city, U.N. officials said. Up to now, the homeless have been living in unheated tents set up amid the ruins. Among the many things disrupted by the quake was the supply of opium to the city's addicts, Farojpour said. Before the temblor, an estimated 20 percent of people over the age of 15 in a population of 80,000 were believed to be addicted. Methadone, codeine and sterile syringes were being given to drug addicts, Farojpour said. The United Nations plans to complete within four days an assessment of the city's needs for water, sanitation, food and shelter. The facts are to be presented in an appeal to international donors. At least five or six countries, including the United States, are working on the review. Bill Garvelink, head of the U.S. relief team in Bam, has said the destruction was worse than any quake-zone he had ever seen. "It's incredible," Garvelink said. "Bam is literally a rubble pile. I haven't seen any business functioning and you don't see anybody living in their homes." On Friday, Iran's state radio, which is controlled by conservatives, accused President Bush of interference in Iran. Bush had said he was glad Iran accepted U.S. assistance, but said its government must embrace democratic reforms and turn over its detainees from the al-Qaida terror group. Iran says its handling of the al-Qaida detainees is an internal matter. The U.S. team in Bam has been generally well received by local doctors and citizens. Washington and Tehran have had no diplomatic relations since militants seized the U.S. Embassy in the Iranian capital in 1979. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,107300,00.html

Crikey! Steve Irwin's baby in a croc shock Christine Caulfield 03jan04 STEVE Irwin sparked outrage yesterday when he held his baby son a metre from the mouth of a crocodile at his Queensland zoo. Child advocates branded the Crocodile Hunter reckless for holding one-month-old Bob while feeding the giant crocodile a dead chicken. Wife Terri looked on as Irwin then "walked" Bob to the crocodile pool at his Sunshine Coast wildlife park as the four-metre reptile, named Murray, lurked nearby. Irwin defended the stunt, saying the baby was never in danger. "This kid has to grow up to be croc savvy," he told the Herald Sun. "I guess what I am doing is teaching him to be completely familiar with crocodiles . . . There's no way known I would ever endanger my child." But Irwin - recently named Queenslander of the year - now faces possible investigation by Queensland police, the Department of Families, and workplace safety officers. The stunt was slammed by child support groups and likened to the furore caused by pop star Michael Jackson when he dangled his newborn baby over a balcony at a hotel in Germany in 2002. Childhood Foundation chief Joe Tucci described Irwin's actions as outrageous. "It's neglect, it's reckless, it's a form of endangerment," he said. "I don't think we should use children as props, and definitely not in situations that are going to put them in such danger." Mr Tucci said Irwin could faces criminal charges if he continued to put his baby in harm's way. "He wasn't thinking about the risks to his child. Children need adults to protect them. They should not be involved in any kind of entertainment that puts them at risk," he said. "Kids under five are unpredictable. It's only one small slip away from a bad accident. He can make his own choices, but his child can't." Australian Family Association spokesman Bill Muehlenberg said Irwin's conduct was tantamount to child abuse. Mr Muehlenberg said Irwin had no right to put his baby in peril. "Most parents would cringe at the sight of such things. One slip, one fall and he is the crocodile's lunch," he said. Yesterday's show, for the public and the media, was billed as Bob's "croc-feeding debut". "Good boy, Bob," Irwin said as Murray's jaws snapped shut on the food. "He's one month old, so it's about time Bob got out there and did his first croc demo," Irwin told the excited crowd. Irwin later told the Herald Sun: "If I had known it was going to cause a ruckus I would have thrown them (the media) out by their ears. "I was in complete control of the crocodile. Robert was tucked right in my arm. It is far more dangerous to pack your kid up and go out on the road." Irwin's wife Terri backed Bob's place in the show. "When I put him back in the pram he had big eyes and he was smiling and it was a wonderful sensory experience for him. He dug it," she said. Queensland Families Minister Judy Spence said she would request the unedited video tapes of the incident. "I have seen the television footage and while I have no doubt the Irwins love their children very much, I believe it was an error of judgment to place a baby in a potentially dangerous situation," Ms Spence said. "The department is interested in examining all of the information including a copy of the unedited video and the safety precautions and protocols Mr Irwin was following." Queensland Police confirmed last night they had received complaints from the public about the incident. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/st...255E661,00.html
