God I am good with google searches! Where is Twin Peaks Season 2? Posted by David Lambert 11/08/2003 In a month we'll be reaching the two-year anniversary since Twin Peaks - Season 1 hit retail stores, to vast critical acclaim. Everyone agreed that this was a high-quality DVD release; with a beautiful job done of remastering (resulting in some of the sharpest video among TV-on-DVD sets ever seen), plus many terrific supplements (read our own review here). Fans who purchased the first season - whether old fans or new to the show - just could not wait to get the second season, and resolve the multiple cliffhangers which ended the first. The problem, according to our exclusive discussions with Artisan, is that there just weren't enough of you. TVShowsOnDVD owner Gord Lacey recently spoke to the studio, where it was finally revealed to him that sales figures for the first season - while decent - just were not profitable enough to cover the high production costs of the Season 1 set. There have been other TV-DVD releases, which didn't sell enough to justify continuing (Columbia's The Larry Sanders Show and Fox's The Mary Tyler Moore Show are the best-known examples). As with those, Artisan couldn't make the numbers make sense for moving forward with a Season 2 release. Especially given the general consensus that the second season went "downhill" after the Laura Palmer murder was solved. They tried and tried, as is evidenced by all the rumors we've heard for two years. It just hasn't worked out, though. We've heard from a significant number of consumers that they don't want to purchase first seasons of any show until the studios demonstrate that they are willing to release further seasons, so they (the buyers) don't get caught without the full run of a TV Show. Gord and I have long maintained that this is a bad strategy for consumers, since studios definitely won't continue to release product that nobody's buying. Twin Peaks seems to have fallen victim to this curse. There are still perhaps a couple of hopes, though. Here are some facts: Lion's Gate has recently bought Artisan for $160 million. And Paramount owns overseas rights to Twin Peaks - Season 2, and had previously indicated that it would be brought out in different foreign markets (Germany for instance)...but release dates haven't ever been named, and those releases seem to have similarly stalled. Put these facts together, and maybe we have a future where Lion's Gate can perhaps figure out a budget strategy that works to reduce production costs by using resources they bring to the table, and then maybe Lion's Gate/Artisan can work out a deal with Paramount to jointly fund the project, so that each studio can profit in their different markets. I should quickly point out, though, that this is a LOT of "maybes" and wishful thinking, and that to our knowledge the named studios have discussed no such plans. They are possibilities, nothing more. But the hope IS there. We'll have to wait and see if it's still possible to save Agent Cooper's life, and also find out who killed Laura Palmer...stay tuned, and if anything develops on the Twin Peaks front, we'll get word to you. In the meantime, drink a damn fine cup of coffee, have a donut, and go get off your holster and buy the Season 1 set. Already have one? Good...the holiday season is coming, so it's a great opportunity to give one to a friend! Renewed sales can only help. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=815

If they don't get that damned second season out soon, I'm gonna burst a blood vessel! get ready to spurt blood! No MTM season 2 likely to come out in the near future either, sales weren't high enough to warrant! I'll see if I can dig up the article....read it a few months back....

Aggie, I had heard from reliable sources(The guys at the local video store ) that the reason the Star Wars films aren't out is cuz George Lucas went thru a divorce, and was trying to keep the Ex-Mrs. Lucas from getting residuals....I truly don't know if it is true or not, but you have to wonder why it has taken so long for the Indiana Jones films to come out, and that the Star Wars have yet to(though they are supposed to next year, correct?) I also read at www.thedigitalbits.com a while back that Lucas was going to use "improved" versions of the films, not the original theatrical versions...no chance to see the improved and original versions like you could with E.T. Good idea for a thread!

We had to put our 18 year old cat down
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Not Dumb! My Dad had buried our oldest cat(Boomer almost made it to 20 in the early 90's) and our dog a few years back...he said he couldn't do that again, and well, I guess I chickened out on doing that as well. So I talked to the vet, and they had 2 types of cremation. One, for 25 bucks gets the animal cremated with a bunch of other cats/dogs...I was going to do that first, figuring what did it matter, then decided to go with the more expensive separate cremation(Of course, who knows, but I took them on their word-actually, they outsource it, there is a woman who comes by once a week to gather animals to cremate, how would you like that job! ) It was 95 bucks. Now I have her ashes in a pretty tin. I looked inside, the ashes are in a bag, but it looks like tiny bone chips, not quite the total ash look I was expecting....still don't know if I want to just spread the ashes in front on my window, or in the woods somewhere, or keep them in the tin...that just doesn't seem right somehow....keep them forever, no matter where I move? -
Could this be you and your music collection?

His collection! I like these lines as well....The former book and magazine peddler said he has sworn off collecting. "It nearly killed me," he said. "But I've retired from the books. I was a rapper once. I'll do that again." -

Sorry soulstation! Cats that make it into their teens are lucky cats no doubt. Not that that makes it any easier.... -
Yes, we all had a great time in St. Louis! The weather was perfect! We were all set to go to to Michigan, but Mr. Alfredson won the lottery in March and said "Screw you jazz idiots, I'm gonna live my dream now...I'm going to be an Opera singer!" Well, almost everyone had a good time there. Ghost , Johnny, and Alexander were all arrested for throwing tomatoes at Democratic front runner Dennis Kucinich ... they were still bitter that he had supported the U.S. invasion of France.
-
What Soulstation said! If you get drunk, stay where you are, if it's at a bar, they won't mind!
-
Why were you wasting time takin' Pictures?? Hey, I just had a thought, say to the misses, "Hey hon, just posted some photos of you, on a thread called Catfights!" Oh, to be a fly on the wall then!

Cyber Blackmail Wave Targets Office Workers Tue Dec 30, 7:51 AM ET Add Technology - Reuters to My Yahoo! By Bernhard Warner, European Internet Correspondent LONDON (Reuters) - Cyber blackmail artists are shaking down office workers, threatening to delete computer files or install pornographic images on their work PCs unless they pay a ransom, police and security experts said. The Biggest Tech Flops An unscientific look at the biggest tech blunders ever, plus products before their time and potential flops of tomorrow. The extortion scam, which is believed to have surfaced one year ago, indiscriminately targets anyone on the corporate ladder with a PC connected to the Internet. It usually starts with a threatening e-mail in which the author claims to have the power to take over a worker's computer through an exploit in the corporate network, experts said. The e-mail typically contains a demand that unless a small fee is paid -- at first no more than $20 or $30 -- they will attack the PC with a file-wiping program or download onto the machine images of child pornography. "They prey on the nice secretary who wouldn't do anything wrong. When she gets one of these e-mails she thinks 'Oh, my goodness what am I going to do?' So she puts it on her credit card and transfers the funds to the (suspect's online bank) account and hopes it goes away," a British detective specializing in cyber-crime told Reuters. The officer advised against cooperating with the fraudsters. "If a person pays up, say it's just 20 euros, then they have identified a soft target. They may come back for more, next time demanding more money." HARD CRIME TO CRACK In the annals of cyber-crime, investigators acknowledge the racket is one of the most difficult to crack. Because the ransom is small, people tend to pay up and keep quiet. Police said the number of cases is tailing off but because it so often goes unreported, there is little evidence the crime is actually in decline. According to Finnish computer security firm, F-Secure, a large Scandinavian university was hit earlier this month. Several university officials received an e-mail from a fraudster who appeared to be based in Estonia, said F-Secure research manager Mikko Hypponen. The e-mail said several security vulnerabilities had been detected on the university's network and that unless the e-mail recipient transferred 20 euros ($25) to the author's online bank account, he would release a series of viruses capable of deleting a host of computer files. Hypponen said he advised the university to take the necessary precautions, alert police and not pay. "A lot of these cases are simply bluffing. But I'm sure there are both bluffs and actual cases," said Hypponen. Police say crime gangs have turned cyber extortion into a tidy business of late. A preferred tool is the crude, but effective denial-of-service attack on a company's network, capable of crippling it with an overwhelming flood of data. There are scores of cases of companies -- particularly small and medium-sized firms -- receiving extortion threats that demand the victim transfer money to the fraudster's bank account or the attacks will grow in severity, police said. Fraudsters also send out streams of menacing e-mails with hollow threats of cyber sabotage. The scam works even if only a handful of the countless recipients follow through and pay up. "It's getting simpler," said Hypponen. "If you wanted to extort money from a small company you would have had to hack them and convince them you have stolen their information. Here, you don't have to do anything but send an e-mail around." http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...m/tech_crime_dc

'We're old, we're cranky' ruled out as state slogan Canadian Press Tuesday, December 30, 2003 ADVERTISEMENT PITTSBURGH (AP) - Of the 20,000 or so sayings submitted for consideration as Pennsylvania's official tourism slogan, some were easily eliminated, like "Pennsylvania: We're old. We're cranky. Deal with it." But 18 entries are still in the running to be picked as one of the five finalists by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office in early 2004. After that happens, the public can vote for the winner on the tourism office's website, www.visitpa.com. Some slogans still in the running are: "Pennsylvania: We're expecting you," "Pennsylvania: The cure for the common vacation," and "Pennsylvania: Oh what a state you'll be in." Gov. Ed Rendell announced the slogan effort shortly after taking office. Among the thousands of initial entries were some deemed not suitable, such as "Pennsylvania: Gateway to New Jersey." http://www.canada.com/news/oddities/story....CB-22D6A21DAB78

The Dirrty singer was named the biggest inspiration by readers of teen mag Sugar who praised her for being "strong minded" and "independent". Aguilera, who frequently flaunts her sexuality and has a number of body piercings, beat last year's poll winner Pink. The February 2004 issue of Sugar has its second countdown of the top inspirations. Readers listed some of her qualities as being a "role model with breathtaking talent who isn't afraid to be who she is", being "open and truthful" and someone who "speaks about real-life issues and encourages girls to reach their targets in life". Aguilera said of the accolade: "Thanks so much to all the Sugar readers for voting me number one. "It's an honour, and being in the UK has been a highlight of my year." Her rival Britney Spears managed just fifth place. Lysanne Currie, editorial director of Sugar, said: "Sugar's Inspirational Girls Top 100 has provided us with a fantastic insight into who our readers look to for inspiration. "The fact that Christina Aguilera came out on top shows teenagers respect independent and strong-minded role models more than ever before." I have tried WD-40 and goo gone in the past, Goo works better, IMO, but the best I have found for cd cases in Prestone silicon spray, comes in a yellow can, doesn't stink quite the way WD-40 does either...some stick-um is so bad, nothing seems to work! I'll try the hairdryer trick...on a cd case that has NOT had any solvents on it!

Michael Jackson arrest warrant
BERIGAN replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Have you heard the latest? Jackson: Cops Manhandled Me During Surrender Sunday, December 28, 2003 NEW YORK — Michael Jackson (search) says he was manhandled by authorities when arrested last month on child molestation charges -- and suffered a dislocated shoulder from the way he was handcuffed. "It's hurting me very badly," Jackson told CBS's "60 Minutes" in an interview broadcast Sunday. "I'm in pain all the time." The pop music star denied the charges against him in a partial transcript of the interview released Friday, and said he still believes it's acceptable to have children sleep in his bed. On Sunday, CBS released the full transcript of Jackson's Christmas night interview with Ed Bradley. Jackson, 45, is charged with seven counts of performing lewd or lascivious acts upon a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent. After surrendering to Santa Barbara, Calif., authorities Nov. 20, he was set free on $3 million bail. Representatives of the Santa Barbara County sheriff's department did not immediately return a call seeking comment Sunday. Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon (search) has said Jackson was treated fairly while in custody. The pop star said authorities sought to belittle him when he was taken into custody. "They were supposed to go in, and just check fingerprints, and do the whole thing that they do when they take somebody in," he said. "They manhandled me very roughly. My shoulder is dislocated, literally." The pain from being handcuffed behind his back "keeps me from sleeping at night," he said. Jackson said he was locked in a restroom for 45 minutes after he asked to use the facilities. He said the room was smelly because of feces thrown all over. His bedroom at his Neverland ranch (search) was left a "total wreck" by investigators acting on a search warrant, Jackson said, although he admitted he has yet to see it. Bradley pressed Jackson, a father of three, on whether he would allow his own children to sleep in a bed with a 45-year-old man and if he understood the way this appeared to others. "People think sex," Jackson said. "They're thinking sex. My mind doesn't run that way. When I see children, I see the face of God. That's why I love them so much http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,106819,00.html -
