  1. WORD! Okay, I feel properly sleepy again. I'm going back to bed. Nighty-night, all. Thanks for the early morning cheer! Misery does so love company! Hey!!!!! I see your name at the bottom of the page! Go to bed young man!
  2. Well, I guess we all saw this happening, NOT!!!!! JACKO FINDS ISLAM By CINDY ADAMS, BARRY BORTNICK and DAVID K. LI -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Email Archives Print Reprint December 18, 2003 -- EXCLUSIVE The King of Pop is restyling himself Jacko X. Michael Jackson last night became a member of the Nation of Islam - and sources told The Post his religious changeover comes along with a shake-up of his personal staff. High-ranking members of the Nation of Islam have been working to bring Jackson into Rev. Louis Farrakhan's flock - and Jackson's conversion is now well-known in the NOI community. Exactly why Jackson converted wasn't clear to The Post's sources. But Fox News's Web site reported yesterday that Jackson's brother Jermaine, who converted to Islam in 1989, has been seeking to win favor with his more famous sibling, and has brought Farrakhan's chief of staff, Leonard F. Muhammad, into Jacko's inner circle as a "bodyguard." That's just one of many changes under way in Jackson's inner circle, sources said. Word of Jackson's religious conversion comes as prosecutors prepared to formally file charges against him in a California child-molestation case - and as authorities agreed to return Jackson's passport to him so he can travel to Great Britain this weekend. Jackson isn't expected to return until Jan. 6, lawyers said in court papers. Lawyers also agreed to put off Jackson's arraignment for five days, until Jan. 16. Jackson remains free on $3 million bail after he surrendered to authorities and was arrested on Nov. 20. Two days earlier, cops tore through Neverland, his amusement-park-style estate just outside Los Olivos, Calif., looking for evidence to back up molestation claims made by a 14-year-old boy. Although there's talk that some in Jackson's camp want to replace defense lawyer Mark Geragos, the high-priced Hollywood attorney appeared in firm control yesterday, and met privately in the afternoon with Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon. Sneddon said he plans to file the charges personally this afternoon at the courthouse in Santa Maria, Calif. The King of Pop has vigorously denied the molestation claims. L.A. County social workers in February cleared Jackson of allegations he molested that boy. But former Santa Barbara County Sheriff Jim Thomas has said he believes the alleged Santa Barbara County molestation took place after the L.A. County probe. http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/13833.htm
  3. I hear ya brother(s)! I can set my own hours of work, since I work out of my house(For the time being I can do this at least) Which seems like a dream come true, except....I don't HAVE to go to bed! So, why go to bed? My brain seems to fire on all cylinders after midnight as well. I find that just as I start to think about going to bed, some idea jumps into my head, or I decide 4 am is just the right time to check out this board.....Next thing I know, the sun is coming up, and it is hard to get to sleep, or stay asleep with the sun poring in around your blinds. And all sorts of thoughts go thru my noggin as I am laying there trying to sleep. Tylenol PM works for a few nights if I haven't taken it in a while, but then I might as well not be taking anything, and that is what I do....sleep for 4-5 hours, wake up MUCH more tired than I ever was before going to bed, and try to work in front of a computer with blurry eyes and it seems tryptophan is pouring into my bloodstream. Now, time to take a power nap! No problem shutting my brain off in the afternoon. Light is no longer a problem either! Wake up groggy, and now that I have a nap, who needs to go to bed in the early A.M.? That, and the fact that great minds like we all possess cannot be shut off easily like others can. I imagine Jessica Simpson is asleep before her head hits the pillow......
  4. Maybe they were fans of (Achtung) Dr. Freud...
  5. Is this a reliable outfit to deal with? I'm dubious of anything with the word DEEP in it!
  6. UP for air....Just somehow hit something on the old keyboard that refreshed away a long paragraph.. So let me be short this time, and add later...getting this dvd recorder for Christmas... http://hardwarecentral.dealtime.com/xPO-Panasonic_DMR_E50 I bitched about how confusing DVD-R Vs. DVD+R is, let alone DVD-RAM....has anyone gotten a recorder since this was a baby thread??????
  7. I recall finding a very interesting site talking about the history of Transcription discs a few years back...of course I cannot find that site now! The aforementioned Hindsight discs are very interesting. They have excellent and fairly cheap 3 cd box sets of Ellington in 46-47, Artie Shaw (1938-39?) and Harry James (1938-48?) If you like Kenton (And who here doesn't? ) there are some interesting early Kenton discs. Have a Glen Gray/Casa Loma disc that is pretty good as well. On of my favorite Circle cds is the John Kirby and Orch. with Maxine Sullivan 1940-41 Loch Lomond. Oh, and Circle put out the Bill Dodge Orchestra disc,1934..... with is Benny Goodman, and Bunny Berigan! Probably my favorite Transcription recordings! I had read Transciptions would frequently be used as time fillers on week-ends, and late at night, to fill in for 15-30 minute shows(Perhaps for cancelled shows, or after sporting events that ended at the wrong time?)And often (Like the Bill Dodge disc) would be anonymous.
  8. I guess I should be glad that you're there, Berigan and your editing is, somehow, kinder and less stinging than my usual editor's is. It's my face that should be red, not yours. There probably IS a Louis Venutti, somewhere, but that's not who I meant. I was listening to La Vie En Rose, by Armstrong and somehow thought "Louis" and not "Joe". The very nice red wine I was sipping could have had something to do with it too. My apologies.
  9. There was something like this that happened briefly in ATL at adult video stores....now, not that I would ever step foot in an adult video store but who gives a flying fuck about the vibrators??? That is the way to target adult emporiums? You can't go after them for mags or videos of people being beaten, (And I do mean beaten up, not the wholesome bondage out there )
  10. You are one classy person....
  11. Mark, you are a sexist pig!!!!! I do believe that is the 50's Sophia! She must have had a lot of back trouble back then, always leaning forward it seems...
  12. On your Avatar????? Oh sure, I could have PMed you this question, but if not, feel free to embarrass me with who it really is! B)
  13. Nappy Lamare was also in the Ben Pollack band, and thru that the Bob Crosby band for a long time...he also also "sang" quite a bit with Crosby. Of course, we all know was given the birth name Napoleon, for the great Napoleon Lajoie......
  14. You're probably right. I think that we of the feminine persuasion are "DILDETTES". I shudder to think that my humble scribblings will be dissected, bit by bit. Oh well, we do what we can.............. Well, it will make you feel better til whatshisface gets back, I can tell you that I have never heard of Louis Venutti, but I have heard of Giuseppi "Joe" Venuti! Man, if there is such a person as Louis Venutti, is my face gonna be red!
  15. You know, Berigan, I thought it would be a really easy thing to discover the origins of the various nicknames. Some of them make sense, because they describe a visible characteristic or eccentricity. What has surprised me is how many are not explained, but just accepted as their name. I've tried to find out, but if I can't I just accept it, mention it and go with any info I could find about them. Their nicknames became part of who they were. By narrowing our discussion to artists who have nicknames, it gives us a random way of learning about big AND obscure artists. Usually, discussions are predicated on already famous and written about jazzers, but this is a different approach, I think. All the subject needs, to be profiled is a nickname. So, is that your way of saying you don't know???
  16. For our Jewish friends on the board....
  17. I remember in grade school some class project were we all made our very own needle/horns....who knows how many records we sent to an early grave? At least they were records the school had, not ones we brought from home! "Dad, this Fats Waller record doesn't sound so good anymore! Let me clean it with some rubbing alcohol"
  18. Chuck, you had well educating parents as far as vinyl is concerned? I am sure they told him of the importance of holding the Wax cylinders just at the ends.....
  19. is it just me, or does this offseason seem hotter than previous ones? I guess everyone knows the The A-Rod talks have heated up again, I just can't see how he can stay in Texas now, or that Nomar won't demand a trade even if he doesn't somehow end up in Boston. Now that Tejada has signed with the O's, they seem to be hot on getting I-Rod, (Who thought that that was going to be a huge deal last year for Florida?) and Vladimir Guerrero! Damn! Someone break up the AL East! I don't know if you heard,(Or care! ) but the Braves made a deal, getting the frequently injured (never had 500 AB in a season) J.D. Drew from St. Louis, and all they had to do was give up a decent left handed reliver (Ray King) a young Right hander (Jason Marquis) and the stud starter in the Minors, 6 foot 9 Adam Wainright ! He throws hard, so we had to get rid of him like we did with Millwood, and Jason Schmidt. Oh, the Braves fans just love this trade, right up there with Kevin Millwood for the back up catcher trade last year. here are a few fans of John Schuerholz.... From ajc.com A few more trades like this one, John, and you will need to change your initials from JS to BS. I think JD and a good hitting first baseman will be an excellent replacement for Shef. Great job, JS! You traded away the next Randy Johnson. J.D. Drew being on the Braves wish list. I just wished they hadn't gotten him. Even in Drew's dreams, he'll never have a season like Sheff had last year. However, I'll take a great attitude like Drew over a playoff non-factor like Sheff every time. Do we need to take up a collection to get the Braves back in the game? Let's see. Oft-injured J. D. Drew and Eli Marrero, a backup catcher/utility guy, for Ray King (YES!), Jason Marquis (uh. . . ), and Adam Wainright (NO!). Sorry, J.S., you gave up way too much with Wainright. Will someone please explain why you trade three reasonably good pitchers for a backup catcher and a part-time outfielder who, if he does have a breakout season, will immediately be eligible for arbitration and/or free agency. AOL has almost finished the demolition of the the Braves and Schuerholz is doing their dirty work. John Thomson and J.D. Drew are replacements for Greg Maddux and Gary Sheffield? The Braves are now a third place team at best. I can't beleive that we expect J.D. "on the disabled list by June and out for the season by August" Drew to replace Gary Sheffield. The Braves, Falcons and Hawks prove one thing to be true: Atlanta is the armpit of the sports world. Concerning the J.D. Drew trade: Why do I have the feeling that we just traded "Josh Beckett" for "Mike Kelley." This trade could be as famous in Atlanta as the John Smoltz trade, but for the wrong reasons. It would not matter if we sold out Turner Field every game, AOL would just pocket the money and the Braves would still be broke.
  20. I don't have that one, but I have this one!
  21. Moose, you know I love ya, but you be a friggin' idiot! C'mon, guys, Moose has GOT to be kidding! Obviously. ....Right, Moose? Don't worry Moose, as usual, I got your back! Let's see what Moosey-Moose said....."I guess the lowest on the list from my shelves is still the Mobley. Don't get me wrong, I like it. I guess I just have good luck; I've yet to pick up a Mosaic set that was a , , or even a . They've all been at least and several have been . .. He said they have all been at least a That means good! it is the lowest on a high list . Glad to have been of service!
  22. VERY COOL!!!
