  1. Being at this concert I know why first hand. It took Ornette over 5 minutes to make it out on stage. Everytime you thought the mystery guess was coming out, he didn't. Sonny had to start blowing to keep the audince in the mood. Thanks, from the CD you really can't tell, because he says he has been told "someone is in the house who wants to play with me"... around 5 minutes into the tune. It sounds like he wasn't even aware anyone was going to join him. But I trust you guys who witnessed it!!
  2. There was a homemade video of this performance that was up on YouTube for a few days. You can see Sonny & co. killing time while they're waiting for Ornette to come onstage - it took longer than planned. Thanks Mjzee for clearing that up.
  3. GA, I have to agree with you. I am a fan of both Rollins and Ornette and have to say that on a first listen, Sonnymoon for Two, their track together, is my least favorite on the CD. Regardless, of what you think of Ornette, and I hesitate to criticize one of the greatest living improvisors, but I find Rollins's solo before Ornette comes out to be wandering and uninspired, with sparse and aimless playing. However, after Ornette solos, Rollins comes back with much better stuff. I also find it odd that they couldn't have inlcuded a track with Jim Hall and Rollins playing together, as opposed to the Jim Hall feature track which is quite fine, but hey didn't they play together that night? Overall, still a really good album with many fine performances.
  4. Happy Birthday Dan
  5. Thanks everyone who responded to my question about pre-orders.
  6. Prices reduced. One book sold.
  7. I have a question or two for you guys who are pre-ordering from Amazon. When you pre-order, does Amazon ever ship prior to the release date? At the other end of the scale, does it ever take too long? What are the advantages to a pre-order? (for the record, I have made many purchses on Amazon, but never have done a pre-order)
  8. I have only discovered George Jones in the last few years and man do I see what I was missing. One of the greatest!!

  10. thanks Leeway and Jazzbo! Leeway, have you used the black boxes featured in CD Sleeves? Are they the thick cardboard - heavy duty type? Do they sell it without the individual cd sleeves.... seems they don't?
  11. About a decade ago, I purchased some black cardboard cd storage boxes and now want to get another one. I can't seem to find the ones to match what I got before. Bags Unlimited has something but it appears they only have it in white. Box racism?
  12. All the best Lon
  13. I hope I did not sound like I was being too judgmental about Winehouse and the other artists she is being grouped with. I am not making a value judgment about people who take their own lives as somehow being bad or lesser folks. (And I would be the first to acknowledge that a number of Hendrix songs either talk about suicide or imply it). My only point is, and I followed his career when he was alive, that I did not get the impression that he was on a path that indicated he would take his own life which is the impression I got with Morrison, Joplin, etc. etc.
  14. Actually I have heard various media reports indicating that each of these artists were bent on self destruction, so at least some are tying them together by more than just the similarity of age.
  15. Slightly off topic and no disprespect meant for Winehouse, but I am puzzled by the media's inclusion of Jimi Hendrix in their constant reiteration of self-destructive stars who died at 27 (Morrison, Joplin, Cobain, etc. etc.) I was not under the impresion that Hendrix was self-destructive or at least not in the league of the others that get mentioned. I mean weren't all indications that his death was purely accidental? I don't think he belongs in that club or what am I missing. I think if I were a member of his family I would be very upset by this
  16. Happy Birthday
  17. Lon, I liked that episode too. The final scene of the last episode has Ray looking into a mirror and then something quite dramatic happens but it is not clear. I want to ask what others thought but do not want to create a spoiler.
  18. I am really bummed. Can we talk about what you guys think happened in the very last moment of the last episode - however I do not want to ruin it for those who haven't watched it yet and still want to.
  19. Belated Birthday Best Wishes to you Guy
  20. SRCS 9631. I have the obi strip that came with the cd. Excellent condition. $15.00 $13.00 $11.00 $9.00 delivered to a US address.
  21. Did you guys see the last episode? What happened in the last scene?
