    Tube life

Thanks Leeway, I have replaced some tubes already when they blew. My question is more of a different one and that is whether, as tubes age, there is any deterioration in sound?

I have several pieces of audio gear with tubes. Is there a point at which, after some time, the sound quality deteriorates on a tube? Or do you just change it when it goes bad?
  4. Anyone else see this? A small but significant nod to the Prez!!!
  5. A belated Happy Birthday
  6. Have a great birthday Daniel A!!!
  7. Jonathan, Whoops - I meant to say that the shifting is noticeable on the "Hard Blues", not the opening track. Sorry for any confusion. I was not complaining, but merely wondering if the effect was intentional, although I suspected it was not. Again, I am very, very happy with this release and the job you did on it.
  8. Got my copy yesterday. Great job in making this release. The sound on the Hard Blues is much better than it sounds on the freedom label release of Reflection ("Coon 'Bidness") One thing that surprised me is that on the opening track the music shifts from one speaker to another like some Hendrix or other rock albums from the 60s. Sounded odd - but I love the music. Thanks again JLH!!!
  9. I am now offering these speakers at $550 for the pair.
  10. What creative solutions have you guys figured out for keeping the booklet with the cds?
  11. THanks Dave. It is interesting that on the UNIQLO website there is mention of Max Gordon as the founder. THe poster/billboard states that Lorraine is the founder.
  12. subway station at 42nd street, the 4,5,6 line under Grand Central Terminal
  13. If you live in NYC you are currently being barraged with billboards and posters of famous faces as part of an ad campaign for this clothing store which just opened a second big store in midtown. On poster in particular struck me - under Lorraine Gordon's mug is the description - Founder: Village Vanguard. Was she really the founder? If anything wouldn't it have been her late husband Max?
  14. You guys are lucky. Despite having pre-ordered 2 weeks ago, I am still getting the old "Shipping Soon" message from Amazon on my order.
  15. "Debris" - the Faces. written and sung by Ronnie Lane, with Rod on backing vocals. Sublime.
  16. Too bad about Walkin' but I do agree with Lon that the DVD from the new box has better picture and sound than I have ever seen before on this material.
  17. The bootleg DVD? Or just on the cd? I guess I was not clear. What I meant to say was that prior to the issuance of the official Columbia release of Miles in Europe 1967, there was a widely available DVD (it was not released by Columbia) of two european concerts from that tour. THe official release DVD that's in the new set includes all of the tunes there were on that unofficial DVD except for Walkin'.
  18. Have you guys noticed at the end of the DVD it lists in the credits that "Walkin'" was performed? Not on my copy. I also note that the booklet and back cover do not list Walkin' as being on the DVD. That track was on the bootleg. I know this was all discussed before, but I wanted to tie up the loose end.
  19. Does this mean it will be available from distributors other than Amazon?
  20. Having listened to the 3 cds, a couple of comments: 1) Thanks to another Board member, I have had the Paris concert on a bootleg cd for a number of years. I note that the sound quality of the new official release seems to be no better than the bootleg, which was admittedly very good, but one gets one's hopes up when it comes to official releases. 2) I lament the fact that the sets contained the same tunes. There was such a wealth of great compositions from this period and I would have liked to have heard more of them. In fact not all of these tunes on these sets were from the period. Can't blame Columbia/Legacy for that.
  21. If you ordered it from Amazon, go to your account and print an invoice. Thanks Chuck, I did order from Amazon and did print an invoice when I placed the order, but given all the price fluctuations and given that some got refunds, I wasn't sure that was the final price, but it does not seem to have changed in the week since I ordered.
  22. I got mine today and am playing Disc 1 - sounds great. Have to agree with Chuck and others about there not being a good place to store the booklet. Also, I did not receive an invoice in the package, which is odd because I usually do. How do I know what I was charged...or do I have to wait until I get my credit card statement?
  23. I was bummed to see that mine is shipping soon from Amazon. Jeez do they mean it might not even ship today? It's out today. I am going to be very bummed if I walk over to J&R today and see it on the shelves for a similar price. And I pre-ordered about a week ago.
  24. Pete I have another question. Do you mean they go ahead and charge you this far in advance to shipping the item?
