I believe there was a thread about this - was it the John Szwed biographry or was it a book about the various groups in the fusion/electric jazz movement? I can't find what I thought I had read previously - maybe I dreamed it.

Any further comments on the Japanese cd of one of the concerts? See mine above. This just screams for a remaster, don't you think?

Wave and Tide are mostly if not all instrumental. Stone Flower is a mix, more vocal than instrumental IIRC. Thanks TTK

Does Jobim sing on those CTI recordings, use anothother vocalist, or are they purely instrumental? Have to say that I am partial to Jobim's songs being sung by Joao Gilberto.

Lon and others, Thanks for the suggestions. It is a real mystery. The TV remote has a button called "view Mode" which now everytime I press it says "not available". I have tried going through the menu to change the settings but can't get anywhere. Of course I can change the aspect ration on the DVD player, but for a couple of DVDs, the TV settings work better.

This is in great shape for the most part. The cover box shows some significant wear on the edges. 2 of the 3 discs are flawless, one disc has about 1/8 light inch long scuff mark, does not affect playability at all. Booklet is in excellent shape. $40 delivered to a US address.

In my case, both the TV and DVD players allow for adjustment of the aspect ratio. What is strange is that after putting in the HDMI cable, when I try to change the aspect via the TV remote, it says "not available" Maybe it is the TV is going on the blink, because today I noticed the same problem when I try to change aspect when not watching DVDs, but on cable. thought I could change it before, seems not now. Weird.

I got one of these HDMI cables (replacing component cables) to go between my dvd player and HDTV and while I do like the picture, it seems that now I can not change the aspect ratio from the TV remote. on 99% of dvds, this does not matter as it appears to automatically choose the right aspect, but on a couple it does not Does the HDMI cable affect this or perhaps something is up with the TV.

I picked this up yesterday and while I am very impressed with the performance, I wish the recording were as good. There seems to be a bit of distortion and in particular the horns buzz a bit - not terrible but not great either

Last night's season finale was quite good IMO.

Price reduced to $50 US delivered for the set of 5 cds - must take the whole set however.

There was also a funny scene where the african-american character is at a restaurant with the two white friends and they get on the subject of jazz - the white guys don't get the fascination that it holds for the african-american friend and they look dumb. Score one for jazz!!!

In the thread on the book about Monk, I noted that this show featured one of the characters reading this book. In last night's episode, the african-american character who is inheriting a car dealership from his father, decides to get rid of the Muzak in the building and put on as he says "Herbie, Miles, and some funk". I did not hear any Herbie or Miles last night, but some funk was played and hey maybe they will get played and maybe some viewers are wondering who Herbie and Miles are.

I am not sure if I have any of his music, but I did love his presentations on the CBS Sunday Morning program. Some of the best jazz and discussion of it ever presented on TV, no one else was doing that.
