  1. Thanks everyone. I am looking to sell and there's the rub with CL. Most people suggest meeting away from home, but I want to sell speakers and would guess any buyer would want to hear them right?
  2. I love this set, but there are some minor issues: 1) a song is described as "I Don't know What Time It Was" - sounds suspiciously like a song I know called "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" 2) We are treated to "It Don't Mean A Thing (alternate version)" - what happened to the issued or original version? It's not on this set. 3) We are told that the version of "Flamingo" was recorded in the studio the day after the shrine concert, yet the track is introduced by Duke and has applause throughout - of course applause can be added to studio tracks, but this sounds like the At the Shrine concert to me.
  3. I see such equipment on both of these sites in my community. Anyone had any experience with either? any suggestions? Thanks
  4. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I managed to get an "official" copy at a reasonable price. I think the Penguin Guide, which I generally like, is a bit harsh in its review of this disc, yes there is an obvious tendency to go with the times here, maybe the material is not stellar, and maybe it is not strictly jazz, but I still like it.

    Tubes

How can you tell if tubes are beyond their best-sounding life? When do you guys change them and I am not talking about attempting to get better sound, rather I have some equipment and haven't changed the tubes in years... do you wait till one goes?
  6. Are there any earbuds that are softer? I like to watch TV in bed with earbuds and sometimes I lie on my side putting pressure on one or the other ear. After a while this becomes uncomfortable with the hardness of the earbuds. Any good solutions for this?
  7. Lon, I have listened carefully for a week, and while they are close, I have a slight preference for the new OJC remaster.
  8. For the record, the cdr would not play on my cd player, yes on the computer.
  9. But is it currently available in a format other than cdr?
  10. Thanks JAW - I know what CDR is. My question is : is this cd available other than as a cdr?
  11. I picked this up at a used cd store this week and did not look too closely. When I got home I noticed it said "digital audio - cdr format" in small print on the tray card. Is that the only way this cd is available? I looked at the BLue Note website and couldn't find anything on this cd or anything about cdrs.
  12. I looked at the Cds and it doesn't say in the booklet or tray notes who did the remastering.
  13. Well just to make it clear, as the name implies these are alternate takes of Lester Young performances, from various labels. There is "Lester Leaps In", "Dickie's Dream" and "Shoe Shine Boy", on this one of course but when I picked it up what it seemed to have the most were unique alternates from the Commodore sides: "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans", "Countless Blues", "Pagin' the Devil", "I Want a Little Girl" and it didn't seems these alternates were easy to come by . Sound is quite good and would probably appeal most to someone who has only the master takes.

  16. $25 delivered to a US address.
  17. Lon, which Evans box are your talking about? Maybe the Village Vanguard box, which is spectacular in every regard (including low price). Sorry s, the "box" was really a typo, I meant issues, individual cds. I meant the recent "Waltz for Debbie." I'm buying any part of the Riverside/Milestone Evans box set that is K2 or 24 bit remastered, etc. Lon - have you compared Waltz for Debbie to the Evans Village Vanguard box (which contains Waltz for Debbie) from a few years ago?
  18. Lon, which Evans box are your talking about?
  19. Price reduced to $20 delivered to a US address.
  20. Price reduced to $15 delivered to a US address.
  21. Jetman and JAW Out of curiosity - have you guys compared the Mosaic to the Wounded Birds? I have.
  22. I'm diggin' it. And the sound is great.
  23. This one is from the Verve Super Best 50 series,24 super bit. POCJ-9225. I have the OBI strip and it comes in a resealable strong plastic sleeve for the cover, cloth sleeve for the disc. The condition is near mint. $20 delivered to a US address.
  24. I am offering what is described as the "new edition", so this must have been the second or third one. It has a copyright date of 1994 and has Ellington on the cover at the piano. The book is has a crease mark on the spine, but there is no writing or missing or loose pages. $25.00 delivered to a US address.
  25. Jetman Yes to my ears, really. That Mosaic box was quite a long time ago, I assume they can do things better now.
