Indeed! This has been on my 'to buy...when I get back to civilization/civilized life" list. Soon, I hope.

Zat time again, izzit? Best birthday wishes. Joy!

Two I couldn't live without: Django Pres I'd concede that both of these artists are adequately represented on other labels, but I find the Mosaics compelling for their consistent, high-quality presentation, and fine choice of music.

I was a Village Music regular from the mid 1980s until the end. A nice shop and John G. was a nice guy. Definitely a music lover all the way.

The December Jazz Improv NY Magazine (freebie version) has an ad on page 7 (page 9 in the PDF) listing a bunch of Inner City reissues (including 3 Ernie Krivdas that I don't believe have been out on CD - Alchemist, Satanic and Glory Strut). The website referenced in the ad (http://www.jazzsession.com) doesn't seem to list all of these new items, and I don't see them at the "usual suspects" (e.g., Amazon). But I guess they're coming. Jazzmusicdepot had some of the last Inner City batch, as I recall. (I'm trying to cut and paste a copy of the reissue list, but my slow internet connection is killing me.)

I always knew this places was haunted. Happy Birthday!

Yes. I've got it on 16mm (I think it is) and, once upon a time, dubbed it to Betamax. (Ahem.) The music is brief, but interesting. I've no idea where it can be purchased.

It's my great good fortune to be able to wander in to a new record store nearly every day. (Yes, even in Uganda.) So I feel like I've been to about 85% of those mentioned above. (I particularly remember Digelius in Helsinki; ten years ago I wandered in and found several Mosaic boxes, and even picked up a couple of LPs, including a J.R. Monterose). But, since I travel all the time, I can't buy any more. I'd rather just fine a place with cool, knowledgeable people who love music and sometimes even have the time for a chat and listening session. Of course if commerce is that 'slack' they usualy aren't around long. Amoeba and its ilk are great for people who want to buy. But I'll be in the combination bookstore/record shop off the alley.

John Handy Columbia Mosaic Select announced
BeBop replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm with y'all. The Columbias aren't what I had in mind. -
Did anyone else see this in the December 2008 Stereophile? I can't find the article on the magazine's website. And I'm typing this from my *#+ Blackberry, so I can't transcribe the whole thing. But there's apparently more Mosaic vinyl to come. Small sets like '63-64 MJQ. Monk Live at the IT club. An all-vinyl store at http://www.thebestvinylshop.com. Jazz and classic rock, blues, singer-songwriters... More when I can get to a real computer.

Happy Birthday! Go out, and celebrate! Perhaps I can snatch a few prime CDs from Offering and Looking For while you're gone.

Or was it music? Makes no difference. Fail is fail. Or flail.

Sport was my first career. I never really made it. And so... I think the rigor has stuck with me; I'm still up at 2:30AM everyday, and conscientious about what I eat. Okay, fanatical. I train like a dog. The dominant effect on me, however, would be my utter distaste for spectator sports. The mere thought of watching a baseball, soccer, football...whatever...game repulses me. And, by the way, the first thing I do when I get up at 2:30AM is throw away the sports section. I still participate and compete. Obviously, fans/spectators are an important financial lifeblood, but I always wonder if they don't really have something better to do than watch me. Like listen to Trane.

Coolman was with Moody several of the last half-dozen times I've seen him, dating back many years - I want to say late 80s. (Could it be?) I think there's a real mutual admiration there. The same seemed to be true for the singer, Roberta Gambarini. She was at Moody's 80th birthday/benefit concert. The song Darben the Redd Foxx (sp.?) comes off an old-as-the-hills album on Argo or Cadet. About the simplest blues line you can imagine, but fun to play, like damn near every song on this album. So I hope these guys are having a blast. They deserve it.

Thanks. Now I know better. Saved me $15.
