  1. I never did "get" Metheny's playing!
  2. ...easy for the guy to say!
  3. ---- i agree the timing is questionable, at best. given the liner photograph though, i'm also pretty certain that this project was in production prior to ray's passing. -e- I think even if they decided to do this 15 minutes after Ray's passing or yesterday, it would have been easy to ad the photograph of Ray and Fathead.
  4. .....and there are women on this board!!! 6 pages dedicated to an "I'm new" thread . You're no longer new!!!
  5. The show was pretty good; Sonny's a good player. He played several tunes during the 70 minute show; Monk's "Hackensack", Dorham's "Blue Bossa", a nice version of Victor Young's "Delilah", "Four" by Cleanhead Vinson; stolen by Miles and a tune by Trane that I can't put my finger on. He did spend a few minutes plugging his latest cd which he would gladly autograph; he had several takers. I'll post a few photographs later this week. Mark
  6. ....how is Lalo's head floating on the cd cover?
  7. I saw him with John Hicks this summer while in San Francisco. He's great live. That's good to hear, David. I've never seen him before so I'm looking forward to it! Mark
  8. ...and tenor!
  9. ...and finally a new image of Fathead on flute!
  10. Sonny Fortune and the Ron Perillo Trio are playing at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago this week. I'll be there this Sunday; anyone else in???? Mark
  11. David, Thanks for the info; seems to be in good shape for 94!
  12. I just ran over to a small record jazz collectors show that is run by photographer/writer/musician Duncan Scheidt. While I was there I met Doc Wheeler, who I knew/know nothing about. I understand he was a trombonist in the Suset Royals back in the day. I'm not sure how old he is but my guess would be his mid 80s at least; nice man! I had lunch with Jim Neumann (beehive records) and listened to a little swing before heading back to the office! Mark
  13. I've ordered on-line several times but I'm in Chicago 2-3 times per month and always stop in. I been there twice in the past two weeks and will probably visit again this weekend! Mark ps....bastards!
  14. ...not by a long shot; but then again, what do you consider old?
  15. ...what's a saxaphone? ....most newbies spell it this way (lately)!
  16. ...what's a saxaphone?
  17. ...what's a B-3?
  18. see below!
  19. I could just as easily throw them in the trash....just didn't want to do it if they were worth anything! Mark
  20. I was given some books awhile back and in the box were two old comic books that I'm not sure are worth anything. I'm sure there are some "youngsters" on the board who may know. ~The Invincible Iron Man (November 1952) ~The Flash (May 62) Both are in pretty decent shape considering the age. Is "pretty decent shape" an official grading??? Thanks, Mark
  21. ...yep, got it a couple weeks ago from Fathead at one of his shows. I gave a few details on it in the "Live Shows" forum since I had just returned from the show. Mark
