  4. No shit! Two years in a row someone gave me a Best Buy gift card at Christmas, the first year I searched and searched and finally found something to buy and second year, I gave it to my nephew.....can't stand the place! m~
  5. I like the part of the report when he said he may have had his hand to close to the chimps mouth.....you think???
  6. ........Von's a cool guy, always a treat to listen to him play and chit-chat with him~ Went to this show with Jazzshrink, Jim Neumann from Beehive Records and one of the editors from Downbeat. m~
  7. ...these were taken at Andy's in Chicago last night....probably one of the worst places to photograph.... Von was great as usual but all the drunks celebrating St. Patrick's Day were blabbing non-stop....not a fan of Andy's.
  8. ...and Steve Berry.
  9. ....went to see Ernest Dawkins this past Friday night in Chicago....just caught the last set but it was excellent. Here are a few photos of Ernest and bone player Steve Berry. m~
  10. Happy Birthday, have a good one!
  11. Thanks for posting. The show was very good with each group playing a couple tunes before the finale, a big jam session and group hug. Howard was probably correct about Danilo, he really stood out on this night. Harry Allen was very good as well. I'll post some photos in the next couple days. I spoke to Wayne and Joe before and after the show and went back stage for a bit during the show (it was packed with musicians as the entire group of musicians including the Chicago Jazz Ensemble was back there)....still no new digs for the the Showcase but keeping my fingers crossed! m~
  12. Sadly, most Americans are simply not educated these days, despite near record levels of people going to college. But I do think we have to take these death of culture essays with a grain of salt. Adorno and others wrote long books about how horrible middlebrow and popular culture were, and this was in the late 1940s and 1950s, which is an era many of us consider to have produced some of the best movies and music of all times. I think plenty of people are educated....just not culturally educated! I work with a ton of people that have many degrees and are very smart (some brilliant) that haven't set foot in a museum, listened to jazz or read books since college....seems strange to me but that's what I'm seeing. 13. Randy and his unlimited source of newspaper headlines!
  14. .....click your cursor on the corner or edge of the box and drag it to the size you want it?
  15. Something's in the water when two members that have been around for some time aren't following through with their deals....not cool! m~
  16. After much thought and conversation with several members, I have decided to follow Han's lead on the issue of not getting cds that have been bought. In my case, I bought a cd (12/14/06) from Jim Dye and never received it....nor have I had any reply to several emails/pms that I have sent. It's not a bunch of money, more the principle of it. I know of at least one other member that has not received his cds bought at the same time and another member that did after a few attempts. I always know Jim to be a stand up guy so I'm a little worried something has happened to him....anyone know? My goal isn't to drag the guy through the mud, just more of an fyi to others in the same boat. Mark~
  17. ...very sad..........LOVED them towards the end of my teens. Met them during a record signing party in Indy just prior to their first concert here in the late 70's. Cool guys and sad to hear of this!!!! m~
