Slide Hampton will play three consecutive nights at Indy's Jazz Kitchen for his 75th Birthday this coming weekend....I'll be at all shows if anyone's in the neighborhood. The opening went well with maybe 150 or so people stopping by in the two hours.....may have been for the free food but I'm cool with that. The show got a little press with two articles being written on it prior to the event and a couple local jazz djs mentioning it on their programs. Lots of friends, a few co-workers, family, musicians and other people I had never met before stopped in. Lots of kind words from those who came by. Sold a couple prints although it wasn't the number one priority for doing the show. I'm not a big fan of attentions coming my way but the night was cool. Lots of nice shows coming up at the Kitchen with Three Nights of Slide Hampton this coming weekend! Still no Organissimo but I won't give up!!! http://www.thejazzkitchen.com/frameset.html. Mark~

He had three guitars with him for the recording and the show...one of them was a Gibson, don't recall what the thrid was. I may be doing more shooting tomorrow, I'll check it out. m~

I was shooting at the recording session of a friend of mine today (Rob Dixon) that included Mel Rhyne and Fareed Haque...here are a couple photos. Fun day with lots of hanging out talking about music and other things....followed by a show tonight. m~

I spoke to her by phone about a year ago and she was without a doubt the rudest person (man/woman) I have ever talked with.....that said I may still pick up the book......or see if my library has it . m~

I met Kurt once with I was a young adult...cool guy. His family (I believe) used to own Vonnegut's Hardware store here in Indy; Kurt was born here in Indy and went to Shortridge highschool not far from my home....He was due to be in town for a speaking engagement in the very near future....sad to have not had the chance to see him one more time. m

I've seen him several times in several different bands...always good!

Thanks guys, wish you could all make it as well. I'm putting the finishing touches on the prints today...the exhibit will have a dozen 24x32 prints and about 18 16x20 prints....lots of time, work and funds to get this together! The Indianapolis Star ran a small article in today's Sunday newspaper, here is the on-line version of the article. ...loved EJ back in the day (early to mid 70s), haven't followed anything of his for many, many years. Never was a fan of Rod but favor a few of his earlier tunes. m~

Not that this has anything to do with the actual subject but Oliver's son....Oliver Jr lives here in Indy and is also a musician and really works hard to keep his father's legacy alive through education/seminars. Very nice guy, wonderful flute player and a wealth of information. m~

Just noticed that Rob posted this. Thanks guys, looking forward to the opening this coming Monday. It should be a lot of fun, hope to see some familiar faces as well! m~
