  3. As many of these things are, I look at them as directional. Not written in stone but something to get the common man thinking about the topic. If you're never thinking about your finances(other than worring about not having enough money), that's not good. ....and Jim, that's just not right!
  4. I haven't skateboarded since I was a kid but this is bullshit!
  5. ...cool! Thanks for posting! Mark~

  7. Damn, here's hoping for a quick recovery for both of them! m~
  8. Agree with this. Used to be my favorite store in the world, now I barely go in there. Anyways, don't mean to hijack the thread! ...and I'll 3rd it....was there this weekend....what a mess! .......and used cds for $8.99/$9.99 is just too much!
  9. Sorry to hear that. Young John Young has been an integral part of the Chicago jazz scene for such a long time.I've also heard that Jodie Christian has some health problems- it that true? Nice pics, Mark. Great to see Vonski still goin' at it! ...agreed. The last time I saw Young was at the 2005 Chicago Jazz Fest playing with Von...beautiful guy. Not sure about Jodie but was thinking about him the other day. The scene wouldn't seem the same without them. m~
  10. I haven't heard the cd yet but I'm sure I'll pick it up soon. I've gotten to know Bobby over the past couple years, nice guy! If you're in Chicago, he has a couple regular weekly gigs...one at the Green Mill with the Deep Blue Organ Trio and another with his Trio at Pete Millers in Evanston. I traded a couple notes with him last week and he's getting ready to go out on the road with Sonny. He's also got some cool things lined up for later this year or next, though not really sure if I'm suppose to say anything at this time....anyway, good guy and wish him the best with his new cd! m~
  11. The only one I recognized was Mike Raynor on drummer. The bass player was a regular with him these days...big heavy set white dude. So noisy in there I didn't catch his name. He also had a guitar player with him and a singer named Bettye Reynolds jumped up on stage for a couple tunes. Sorry I didn't get name but I couldn't hear myself think during most of the show.....I think most of his band are the ones with him when he plays at the New Apartment Lounge. I was hoping John Young would have been with him on piano but I hear is not well . m~
  12. idea flash: maybe you can be brought in as a handsomly paid consultant based on your stellar experience with your own label! wow....that's not very Christian like!
  13. Well I'm sick to death of movies that look like b&w photographs! ....good one!
  14. Slide Hampton will perform for three consecutive nights at the Jazz Kitchen in Indy on April 20 (tribute to JJ), 21 (tribute to Jobim) and 22 (tribute to Slide's sister Virtue). The first night he's perform with 6 other trombone players including D.Marsalis and Steve Davis....on the 21st, he'll play with his Latin Band and the final night, I believe with some Hampton family members and more guests. This is his 75th Birthday celebration. Slide and I share the same b-day....4/21. More info to come!!! Here is a link to the Jazz Kitchen site http://www.thejazzkitchen.com/. m~
  15. I think this thread is about 400 times worse than the one on Zodiac or Sin City....how silly!
  16. ...how absurd that people like different things....we just can't have this!!!
  17. Jack Kerouac
  18. No shit! Two years in a row someone gave me a Best Buy gift card at Christmas, the first year I searched and searched and finally found something to buy and second year, I gave it to my nephew.....can't stand the place! m~
  19. I like the part of the report when he said he may have had his hand to close to the chimps mouth.....you think???
  20. ........Von's a cool guy, always a treat to listen to him play and chit-chat with him~ Went to this show with Jazzshrink, Jim Neumann from Beehive Records and one of the editors from Downbeat. m~
  21. ...these were taken at Andy's in Chicago last night....probably one of the worst places to photograph.... Von was great as usual but all the drunks celebrating St. Patrick's Day were blabbing non-stop....not a fan of Andy's.
