After Joe Segal's 80th Birthday party with Yusef Lateef, Lou Donaldson, Junior Mance and a host of other performers on 4/28 at the Symphony Center and Dave Douglas/Ira Sullivan (2 different shows) on 4/29 in Chicago I will be heading off to a week of jazz in NYC with my good friend and board member Jazzkrow. At this time we will see Hank Jones/Joe Lovano Duo at Lincoln Center on 4/30 and "A Great Night in Harlem" at the Apollo Theater (Abbey Lincoln, Ron Carter, Jimmy McGriff, Clark Terry, Harold Mabern, Ben Riley, George Cables, Gary Bartz, Johnnie Mae Dunson and many others) on 5/4. We haven't finalized our shows for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday yet but hope to see the VV Big Band as well as the Mingus Big Band but are open to suggestions.
Only going to be there for five nights and way too many things on our "to see/do" list. We would love to hook up with some of the NY board members if time permits....if any of you are interested in getting together for dinner one night, please send me a pm or respond here and we'll go from there.
Any tips on food, sights, cds, photography exhibits and so on would be greatly appreciated. If you have any spare subway tokens, we'll take those as well!!! We are staying in Manhattan, about 14 blocks from Times Square (close to Lincoln Center).
Thanks!
Mark
