  3. Here are a few images from the Tom Harrell show this past Sunday. Very good show and Tom was doing well until a minor meltdown with some guy took a photograph with a flash....Tom freaked out and yelled at the guy which was pretty wild. I know Sal went to a show earlier in the week that was a disaster....Tom leaving the stage, going upstairs until his wife went up to get him.....band mates just standing there??? m~
  4. This has been out for at least 8 months or so....picked it up and read it while in San Francisco last August. It's really a book about Chicago jazz, not just the Velvet.....I found it a strange read....a little disjointed to me.....probably just not my favorite style of writing. m~
  5. ..thanks guys, not sure why I didn't think about those as I just had a conversation with the guys at Time Out NY as they are using one of my Joe McPhee images in an upcoming issue. m~
  6. Thanks for all the info guys and to Chris for the pastrami! I think we have all the shows/venues lined up for the week, still have to figure out where all the venues are.....Lincoln Center and the Iridium are close to where we're staying....also going to the Vanguard, Jazz Standard, Smoke and the Apollo Theater for the "Great Night in Harlem" show on 5/4....maybe others if time permits. m~
  7. ...what a strange path this thread has taken. Having known Sal for a few years, he is neither gay nor a junkie crack whore ....but he is a big fan of jazz! Have a great time in NYC Sal~ m
  8. ...you must have me confused with the other man, I actually think your team may be pretty good........but it's 0.0186% of the way into the new season....I'm not sure you're dominating the league
  9. Guys, this IS the beginning of the season!

  19. Chris, thanks for the tips. I'm not opposed to going outside of Manhattan but we don't have a car so we'll need to figure out the transportation..... m~

  23. After Joe Segal's 80th Birthday party with Yusef Lateef, Lou Donaldson, Junior Mance and a host of other performers on 4/28 at the Symphony Center and Dave Douglas/Ira Sullivan (2 different shows) on 4/29 in Chicago I will be heading off to a week of jazz in NYC with my good friend and board member Jazzkrow. At this time we will see Hank Jones/Joe Lovano Duo at Lincoln Center on 4/30 and "A Great Night in Harlem" at the Apollo Theater (Abbey Lincoln, Ron Carter, Jimmy McGriff, Clark Terry, Harold Mabern, Ben Riley, George Cables, Gary Bartz, Johnnie Mae Dunson and many others) on 5/4. We haven't finalized our shows for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday yet but hope to see the VV Big Band as well as the Mingus Big Band but are open to suggestions. Only going to be there for five nights and way too many things on our "to see/do" list. We would love to hook up with some of the NY board members if time permits....if any of you are interested in getting together for dinner one night, please send me a pm or respond here and we'll go from there. Any tips on food, sights, cds, photography exhibits and so on would be greatly appreciated. If you have any spare subway tokens, we'll take those as well!!! We are staying in Manhattan, about 14 blocks from Times Square (close to Lincoln Center). Thanks! Mark
  24. I'm out. Regretfully. My wife has family in town from India. If I were to come to Chicago this weekend rumors would be circulated (in India) that my wife wasn't really married or that we were having "problems". Gossipy folks those Indians. ;-) Greg, Not to worry, I'm sure the show will not be very good anyway but just wanted to check!!! Well....we'll miss you but I'll keep you updated with photos! I'll snag you a chunk of wallpaper for your scrapbook. m~
