  1. Very sad indeed! My girlfriend bought me an original, signed photo of this image many years ago. I traded letters with Mr. Gottlieb around that time and more recently with his son; never had the opportunity to meet him m~
  2. I think your current high bidder on the Blue Mitchell is Tom Hustad, a professor at Indiana University.....nice guy! m~
  3. ...that's some funny stuff.....f#cker!
  4. Have a great day!
  5. Thanks to all! Had a great day other than working for much of it. Went to a late Italian dinner followed by a neighborhood wine bar; great wine but horrible music . Went Birthday shopping for my new lens this morning....24-70 f2.8 L series.....very nice although a little pricey! Got an invite to Joe Segal's birthday party this coming Monday so I'll put it to good use! Thanks again! Mark
  6. ...thanks for all for the warm wishes, kind words and delicious cakes....can't wait to dig in!!! I'm stuck in the office for most of the day but my better half is taking me to dinner this evening! Going shopping for a new lens tomorrow and off to Chicago and New York next Friday for 8 days of great jazz....at least one show per night and two shows on at least two night.....cannot wait!!! Thanks again! m~
  7. .....been there once myself, similar experience as BeBop's. No photographs allowed or I would post something. m~

  9. I think it has "run amok" period....even when it involves/offends me.....people need to lighten up!!! m~
  10. Randy, It was Wayne Escovery on tenor, Danny Grissett on piano, Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Johnathan Blake on drums. m~
  11. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...Minton's. I'm having a brain lapse when trying to post and wanted to post the other famous Minton's pic where Howard McGhee, Monk, Teddy Hill and Roy Eldridge are standing outside of Minton's in 1947. Long live Minton's (whenever it reopens, that is)!!! Marla This one?
  12. ....I'm looking forward to that day!!!
  13. ...not sure what my next set will be but I ordered all 6 of the new Singles....hopefully I'll get them in the next week. m~

  15. ....nice story, thanks for sharing~
  16. I saw him in Chicago a few weeks ago and was rather dissapointed. Although the guy has the chops and can pretty much play what he wants, what he's playing (as a leader), I'm not sure I want to hear. I think to this day, he is out to prove he can play and wants to show it on e...v...e...r...y..........s....i....n....g....l....e.......n....o....t....e! He had congo player Juna Santos with him who I enjoyed!!! Also saw James with the Newport All-Stars two years ago and loved him! Most of his recordings are hit and miss with me. I just want him to PLAY!!! m~
  17. .............last time I'll post any pictures of Tom Harrell!
  18. Damn, I missed that one. I'll be at the festival for sure, not sure about Andy's....though nice place to play! Thanks, Mark
  19. Jim, Great news! When/where are you playing in Chicago??? m~

Late, thanks! .....and thanks to Margaret as well for posting! m~
  21. I was born on Easter (1957) and the family still celebrates the holiday although my birthday has never fallen on the holday since....this year is close as my b-day is 4/21. m~
  22. I thought he played well but certainly not the best I've seen him play. He has a habit of leaving the stage when he is not playing, standing off in darkness. I think he was a little late getting back to the stage on a few occasions. It's kind of a crap shoot with what you'll get from him night to night or even show to show; I feel for the guy....must by tough! I know Sal and his dad checked him out a few nights before and said it was a disaster, distracted by lights, cords, horn, other players....couldn't concentrate, solos were very short and not good! I would say he has worn the jacket each time I have seen him, warm or not. Joe Segal did say the show I went to was the best of the week.....not sure if he meant it was a good show or just that it was the best of the week? When he's on, he's wonderful.....when he's not, he's..................not so wonderful! m~
