  1. You know, I really don't appreciate.... oh...THAT Fathead. Nevermind.
  2. I love Ringo.
  3. I really like his Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District.
  4. Sad news. RIP
  5. I stopped trying to keep up with current-day pop music in about 1982 (if I ever DID try to "keep up," which is doubtful.) I will say that it seems most of the current day pop-rock (or alt-rock, or whatever you want to call it) bands that do something for me are heavily influenced by/referring to older pop styles---Fountains of Wayne, Sloan, etc.
  6. In some form or other. Two dates while he was alive, Presenting Ernie Henry and Seven Standards and a Blues, and a posthumous collection of previously unissued material, Last Chorus, that might not have emerged but for his death. That's what I thought.
  7. Heroin? BTW, I thought he put out two albums as a leader.
  8. Can we also keep the Zombies?
  9. Of the ones I've heard (all of which I like) I'd have to say the Lester Young is my fave. "Just You, Just Me" comes close to Zen.
  10. Very very best wishes to you Jazzmoose. Look forward to your return to the board.
  11. What do you mean? Just speaking in the mode of Harvey Kurtzman.
  12. ...or some such.
  13. And they aren't mentioning Jo Jones becaaaauuuuse......?????? Edit: Allen Lowe beat me to this. I really should read the whole thread more often before thowing my 2 cents in. Whoops.
  14. Same here, only I heard Fats Domino first. So Elvis was never quite so riveting, for me, as for everyone else I knew. And it was four years before I started buying jazz albums. So I think I'll play some Fats later MG Fats Domino RULES!! From my first serious music listening to my first serious consistant jazz buying was only 11 years. Allen is so on target it's scary!
  15. I like Eva too. Plus, she can act. My wife has reminded me that they killed her off. Oh well...that's what happens when you only see a movie once. Maybe I just blanked that part out. But anyway, they could bring her back as a different character. ooh, that's too bad! I forgot about that, too! would also hasve enjoyed seeing her a second time! Yeah, she damn near made the film for me.

  17. Quite right, Allen. By the way- "...the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing he's the king of the whole wide world..."
  18. I was kind of hoping they'd bring back Eva Green, but Gemma looks good that's for sure. She's got a little bit a Louise Brooks thing going for her. ("Gemma"---is that a Greek name?)
  19. Very sorry to learn of this.
  20. Fair enough, but in '95 we had winds of up to 100mph, and in Friday's storm we had winds up to 150mph around Lake Tahoe. They not be rotating around a well-defined center, but they're pretty nasty. I don't remember a nor'easter with 150mph winds.
  21. There was a very windy storm in '95 that knocked down trees and damaged a lot of signs, at least in SF. When they get to a certain level, they should call these storms what they are---typhoons.
  22. What's to forgive? Nothing wrong with country or bluegrass.
  23. Our power didn't go out at all, thank God, but one of the kids in my son's Boy Scout troop slept over here Saturday night because the power at his family's house was still out and they have electric heat.
  24. I know people who STILL don't have their power back...
  25. Surf music. Still like to listen to it once in a while.
