  1. "Nothing is more contagious than GOOD JUDGEMENT." "Anytime you want to dance with me to my Gene Krupa or Buddy Rich records, you're welcome to."
  2. When my wife and I were driving cross-country years ago, we stopped off in Sioux City mainly just to wander around in the Woodbury County Courthouse. Though that's the main thing I had in mind when I mentioned Sioux City, it's not the only gem; there's also a remarkable streamline Art Deco civic auditorium. That was a very nice reply, Rooster, thanks for letting us see it!
  3. A letter of apology to each and every person who was pained by their recordings would seem to be in order. (Written in blood optional.)
  4. Was it something I said? Sorry, just like to get a rise out of the board sometimes.
  5. By the way, the producers of F&G should get some sort of award for "Best Use of An XTC Song In A TV Show." "There is no language in our lungs, lungs, lu-lu-l-l-l-..."
  6. You and me both! Today looks to be OK though; cool breezes and reasonable heat.
  7. It actually got yanked from the schedule for 2 MONTHS, then put on at a different time with no advertizing to let people know where to find it. Networks should first recognize a quality show then get behind it by putting it on at a reasonable time and keeping it there long enough for word-of-mouth to have an effect. C'mon, were not talking rocket science here. "...equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking." That sums it up for me. Some friends and relatives have told me they find it painful, uncomfortable, or too intense. HUH???? I just don't get that. Sure, it doesn't lean on TV comedy cliche's as heavily as, say, That 70's Show, but isn't that a GOOD thing? I think so. "Dad, are any of your friends still alive?"
  8. In all my years of drinkin IBC, that's never happened to me. (Yet!)
  9. Jon Stewart ridiculed this on the Daily Show last night. As well he should have.
  10. No. A normal person. (Actually, you sound more honest than most.)
  11. Shouldn't that be in the "Worst songs" thread? (Hey, I kidd, I kidd!!)
  12. I have actually made a low-fat, modified version of his favourite sandwich, which I have, occasionally, for lunch. The original involved thick slices of white bread, buttered, both on the inside and the outside, suitable for frying later. The filling was a thick layer of peanut butter, on the inside of both slices of bread, on top of the butter already there. This was topped with a sliced banana and then topped again with as much bacon as the King was able to cram in there. This heart attack on a plate was apparently a favourite snack. My own version is two slices of whole-grain bread, no butter, peanut-butter right to the edges, sliced banana and hold the bacon. Grill in one of those sandwich thingies. It makes a very nice lunch and I don't anticipate reaching three hundred pounds, anytime soon, as it is rumoured the King did. No wonder. The original (Elvis) version of that would be fine if it weren't for the damn banana. (Yuck!) I've gotta say, I'm with Rainy on "Jailhouse Rock"---a classic (to me). But "It's Now Or Never" was pretty vomit-inducing. Actually, any song that you don't particularly like, if it's played ad infinitum (as hits tend to be) begins to seem like it's sucking your soul out with a straw every time you hear it. Personally painful examples: "You Light Up My Life" "Material Girl" "My Life" (title?)---by Billy Joel....I swear, for years, everytime I got in the car with my parents this song would be playing on the radio. It went from harmless ditty to soul-sucking demon from Hell. Any one of these songs, if I had heard them only once, I would have no hatred for at all. (Though in that case, I probably wouldn't remember them, either.)
  13. Me too. Ya learn something every day. That was one of the most reasonably worded requests I've ever read. BTW, I also think it's a nice image. Grinnell, eh? There's also some nice architecture in Sioux City.
  14. Well, to each their own, I guess. I also think Soul Station is better than any Coltrane album.
  15. There should be a separate thread for Elvis songs, there really should. You're in a whole 'nother world with him (the Elvis Zone, as it were.) He did some of the worst and best pop songs of all time----but with some of his worst songs, the kitsch doubles back on itself, and the song becomes a masterpiece. So bad it's great, sort of. "Viva Las Vegas" is an example. Yet even many of his best songs have an element of kitsch to them. He was an enigma (wrapped in a cheeseburger...)
  16. Dexterrific!!!
  17. What the....... do you go to the post office a lot?
  18. You are SO right, man. Mosaic sets suck. Don't ever buy another one! And the sets on the Running Low list-----they are the WORST! Avoid them at all costs.
  19. Another difference is not the covers, but how much better Second Genesis is as an album.
  20. Did anyone see one of the better singers who got voted off was on Letterman a few nights ago, doing the Top Ten List?
  21. Holy crap----the first album you purchased was the Ramones' Leave Home? How cool is THAT? Ghost, you are THE MAN!!!
  22. Two of my favorite singles of all time are "He's Sure the Boy I Love" and "One Fine Day" though they came out when I was a pre-schooler. I got into buying singles in my late teens/early 20's, and bought oldies almost exclusively. But I did get some more contemporary stuff: Sex Pistols, XTC, Flipper, Stiff Little Fingers, Elvis Costello. Hard to name a favorite from that bunch.
