  1. I'd go with the Paul Jacobs.
  2. Windy----again!
  3. The Bob Brookmeyer Select.
  4. My favorite: "Minimize all noise." I can actually get on board with that one. Sure, show that to any and all prospective girlfriends/potential mates; it'll do two things for you: 1) Allow you to stay a bachelor all your life, and 2) Very well get you killed. Good luck!
  5. Basin Street got my vote. But Study In Brown is great too; REALLY great. They're all essential, IMHO. Brownie, Brownie. Even Philip Larkin, who loathed bop, had to give Brownie his due.
  6. You the man! Come to SF sometime and see a game in Pacbell Park (or whatever they're calling it now.) The new ballpark downtown. It's right by the water; you'd love it!
  7. What the...? Do you live in a rainforest?
  8. The dreaded cicada? Damn, the last 17 years sure went by fast, huh? Ouch!
  9. Windy, but otherwise good. Thanks for asking.
  10. Have you listened to the album "Young Americans" lately? A good example of what you're talking about.
  11. Damn----that is her! But you've got to tilt your head way over to recognize her.
  12. "The Long and the Short Of It"
  13. Congrats to the whole family!
  14. Only 1/3 bigger is "ogre-sized"? Still, they sound good.
  15. Thanks for the news!
  16. Yes it would. Toss in Konitz and Marsh and you've really got something there...
  17. As far as I'm concerned, he was right.
  18. No. Dunkin' Doughnuts stopped making real doughnuts in about 1975. But, to each his own.
  19. Hey, isn't that Daniel Desario? Dude, even the punk haircut looked better!
  20. Speaking of matinee movies, I just saw the re-release of the original, undubbed, un-Burred Godzilla----popcorn-chomping fun!
  21. Yes indeed. RIP Mr. Kessel.
  22. Me too! If I met Francis Davis, the writer, I could imagine mentioning it here.
  23. Several of "The Cat" cartoons were reprintied in "Weirdo" magazine (edited by Robert Crumb) about 15-20 years ago. I've been eagerly awaiting a definitive compilation of this work ever since. The publication of Cat On A Hot Thin Groove was like a dream come true. Any dedicated jazz fan, particularly one who began collecting jazz on vinyl, can see a little (lot?) of themselves in The Cat.
  24. Well..? Don't keep us in suspense!
