  1. Wow. For several years I actually thought Jackie McLean was white. Then I read some interview where he referred to being black, I looked at an album photo and thought, "Oh yeah, I guess he is black." I felt like such an idiot. Peter's question makes me feel a lot better.
  2. Whoops! Sorry. Can I change my vote? BTW, why don't we just get rid of the Olympics entirely? They're a huge pain in the ass, the olympic commitee is corrupt as hell, the althletes are all drugged up so it's a joke...who needs it?
  3. I know it is a question of taste but from my point of view this is the most interesting set. I love the combination of Golsen & Farmer and they always sound better when Curtis Fuller joined them to the front line. I can promise you I'll be one of first to pre order this set and I have started already the count down... The Jazztet really deserve a Mosaic set so thank you Mosaic for doing this historical justice. I have to agree.
  4. "Surfin' Bird" --by The Trashmen
  5. Welcome back, Organissmo Forums! And yes, I don't have a life.
  6. No doubt having her picture on THIS board will help!
  7. "He just hangs out all the time with my parents, and listens to my dad's stupid jazz records."
  8. Nothing. Hurray for me!
  9. WOW! Wish I'd been here for that.
  10. After the RVG of Mode For Joe came out, I used to play "Black" an average of half-a-dozen times a day for weeks for some reason. Funny thing is, I still like it.
  11. Nellie Luthcher: "Real Gone Gal" a compilation on the Stateside label.
  12. If they could, I would have chosen some richer ones.
  13. Hey, is he dumping on my man Kenny G????
  14. May I suggest an Ellington? Such Sweet Thunder or Blues In Orbit or Piano Reflections or And His Mother Called Him Bill. Also Mingus Ah Um is a perennial favorite of both jazz lovers and jazz beginners.
  15. Me too. I got a used vinyl album of him with Lucky Thompson that was pressed so badly it sounded like it had sand in the grooves, yet Solal's sheer talent still shone through clearly. Viva Solal!!
  16. Great album! (And it's nice that I already have it.) Will spin it tonight or tomorrow. As for Farmer, yes, I know what you mean. You could make a case for him being the best of the post-Clifford Brown trumpeters.
  17. I once hit a rabbit, but it wasn't my fault! It ran right into my car.
  18. Yes; I'll be surprised if Dave doesn't say something tonight. RIP
  19. Sidney Bechet---Mosaic box.
  20. I couldn't have put it better, ghost! Happy Birthday Jackie!
  21. Count me as a fan, too. I have a compilation of her stuff titled "Real Gone Gal" and I don't think there's a bad cut on it. She's great!
  22. How about, the prospective Hummer-owner has to drive from one side of Baghdad to the other.
  23. Yes! Seconds is an excellent film with great visual impact. Best performance of Rock Hudson's career. To this day, the ending still creeps me out. "You were my best work, Mr. Wilson." Reportedly, Rock Hudson himself also considered it to be his best performance. I guess I can see why. This is a very unusual movie. Basically a horror film, but a philosophical science fiction horror film.
  24. Huh?? They've really stopped releasing these? WTF? I was going to wait til the whole series was out to buy it. Jon Stewart makes some nice appearences in the later episodes. ...They HAVE to keep coming out with them, otherwise they'd look so lame. Hmmm. But then, I thought they would HAVE to renew Freaks and Geeks because the show was just so good.
