  1. Any decision on this whole vinyl thread thing? Not that anyone asked, but I vote for "The Microgroove" as a forum title. "Small Groove BIG Sound"
  2. mgraham333, Not to get too off topic but, nice avatar!
  3. Hey, not to slight Stanley and Shirley, they got it going on too! Throw Kenny into the mix and you have a "Soul Symphony". At least to these ears.
  4. This is a great box. Wondeful playing all around, not just Charlie. The packaging really sucks, but don't let this be a deterent to purchasing. The sound quality on the other hand is quite good, considering to age of the material.
  5. For me Sunday's a bit of a ritual. Not being especially religious I don't go to church however I don't sleep in. I get up and listen to music. I tend to listen to a lot of Bossa Nova. Then of course there's Duke. It really just occurred to me that more often than not on Sundays, I'm listening to Duke, or something Duke-related. Right now I'm listening to Earl Hines playing "The Creole Love Call". So what's your Sunday morning musical ritual?
  6. Hey Brad, I have all those albums you mentioned. I enjoy them very much. I've heard the Complete Quartets album so much, I can pretty much sing every note Grant plays right along with him. Those are all great albums and Grant plays wonderfully. Trust me "I get" what Grant was all about. I get his R&B and blues roots. I get his ability to embelish the melody in a deceptively simple manner. Most importantly, I feel the passion in his playing when he was on. "It Ain't Necessarily So" is a great example of that. My only point is that when it comes to organ/guitar albums, I prefer players other than Grant. No more, no less. Hey, I dig a lot of the funky organ stuff Grant did. I just like other things more. Grant was a beatifully lyrical player, with a special gift for melody. I much rather hear him play "My Favorite Things" rather than "High Heel Sneakers"! Ya know?
  7. I tend to agree. The organ stuff is just fine however, I prefer Grant In A Ballad/Standards mode. Different strokes...
  8. 96 but who's counting! B) Check out 12-15-78 Live At The Village Vanguard, if you want to hear Kenny near his prime, both creatively and technically. No organ on this one.
  9. Don't forget to play a little Von today. If you don't have any go buy some! B)
  10. Yet another case of, why didn't I buy this album sooner? Great album!
  11. As well it should! When my email is up and running again, I will see if any details are mentioned.
  12. Not to be a suck up, but I listened to "Waiting For The Boogaloo Sisters" all summer. It never left my truck the first 2 months I owned it. Highly recommended whilst driving!
  13. Ex "mats" frontman Paul Westerberg has consistently delivered as a solo artist.
  14. Eddie McFadden. Also, don't forget Thornel Schwartz.
  15. Music Direct sent me an email indicating that they were available for preorder. Unfortunately I can't access my email at the moment. Check out amusicdirect.com they may have the details on their site.
  16. Oh yeah, one other thing... Who was Jimmy Smith's first call guitarist? B)
  17. I Love Grant as much as the next guy, but some of the most exciting organ/guitar interplay I've heard in a long time is between Kenny and Shirley on the album "Hustlin".
  18. This looks like an interesting, if not bizarre twist. Track 36 from their latest. Take Off Your Cool performed by OutKast / Norah Jones - 5:13
  19. Haven't heard it all, however, I really like the single "Hey Ya!" Old school with a modern twist.
  20. CUBS WIN!!!!!!!!
  21. Done!
  22. What's the scoop on "Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderley"? I heard a cut off this while driving to work this morning. I'm assuming this is a nice ballads/standards album that is well worth buying?
  23. I recently heard a god awful version of "Stolen Moments" while having breakfast in a hotel resturant. Now that's wrong!
  24. Let me compliment you on your choice of guitars. Teles are great all round guitars. As far as your question goes regarding fret board materials. I don't disagree with anything that's been said, however, I really doubt that you will hear any major differences in tone. Remember tone it's mostly in the fingers not the fretboard. B) I've own, or have owned a number of Teles. My personnal favorites are the "52 tele reissue" and the chambered maghony "Telesonic" with DeArmond pickups. I very rarely play these guitars any more since I got my jazz box, however, I just can't part with them. I've also been lucky enough to play various vintage teles including a real 52, 62, Esquires, and various thinlines. These are amazing guitars. Leo got it right the first time! And for the record I like my tele with a maple fret board. It looks cooler! B)
  25. Coltrane's album "Ole" comes to mind. A very fine album. Another one that comes to mind is "Jazz Impressions of Japan" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Stylistically, it's different from KOB, however they have an similiar feeling overall. At least to my ear. Two underrated albums in my book.
