  1. And again. Truly wonderful music despite the inconsistent sound quality. Not complaining, mind you. It's all good. Charles McPherson blows me away with his great playing.
  2. I think only players' salaries count. I don't know that Calvillo and Ray and Burris make that much. Maybe, but no more than that. I don't know whether or not it's still true, but it seems to me that at one time the CFL exempted one player's salary (usually the QB) from the cap. But I could be wrong on that. I actually liked what I saw of the Ti-Cats early in the year. I thought they might end up where the Argos did. But bad defense did them in.
  3. This is very surprising in a league that counts every $ very carefully (No NFL here!). It's reported that Cortez has 3 years left on his contract at $400K per. That's a lot to swallow for a CFL team. So there must have been major issues.
  4. I forgot about the excellent O'Higgins/Alexander disc, but could/should have included it, too.
  5. 5 more: Don't overlook the Quill - it fully lives up to its title. and a fine DVD thrown in for good measure
  6. Since there's really only one track here, I'll nominate the whole thing. This is very, very good music with enough swinging to please even the hardboppers.
  7. Bill: You really need to try this one:
  8. A long and great life in music. Thanks for the joy, Mr. Brubeck. R.I.P.
  9. Org members should appreciate the name - Mosaic Stadium
  10. Good to hear. My set has apparently reached the PO but those f**tards at Royal Mail are charging me £12 import duty of which £8 is a 'handling charge'. Sadly, as a result of this I'll probably look at ordering future sets from that Jazz Messengers place in Barcelona. They seem to have most of the Mosaics in stock and there's no BS on imports. Never thought I'd see the day that Royal Mail was as bad as Canada Post but that day has arrived ! Not quite as bad yet. My set has still not arrived.
  11. Stay calm. Mine hasn't arrived yet, either, and I'm much closer to Stamford than you are! (although I once had a Mosaic set arrive from Stamford via England, long story...)
  12. Yep, that's the one. He also has fine solos on a couple of the Hank Levy time signature charts, "Of Time and Space" and "Ambivalence." Park was a great player, considered by every Kenton fan I know, to have been the outstanding soloist in Kenton's bands of the 70's. Heart troubles at a young age took John off the road, off the scene, and ultimately off the planet at around age 45 (1979, I think). I have the LP "When Winter Comes." If you ever see a copy, grab it. Honestly, the Kenton rhythm section was better (a young Peter Erskine on drums), but Park sounds very good on it.
  13. Glad my team won, but Calgary played a bad game. Looked unprepared. Had no plan to deal with the crowd noise. This game, I'm afraid, was not a good advertisement for the CFL.
  14. Happy 80th, Don!! Have a great day.
  15. I went through the ordering process with a fake Credit card # just so I wouldn't get charged before I saw the shipping charge. $15.00 to Canada; too high, nearly doubles the cost. Will wait for a better deal. I suspect it will be even higher to Europe and elsewhere.
  16. Yes, but with the CFL, the long season means a team can turn things around and change from being a poor team at the beginning to a decent, even Grey Cup winning team, at the end. Of course, it can work the other way too. I thought the Ti-Cats were going to have a good year (started off well), but then really floundered. As I said above, it seems the Argos are finally getting their act together at the right time. I will agree that they are certainly not one of the greatest teams to ever get to the Grey Cup. Not sure Calgary is either.
  17. I recommend the live version of "Funkallero" done by Evans' trio with Getz as guest artist performed at Laren in '74. The CD is titled BUT BEAUTIFUL (Milestone MCD-9249-2) released under Evans' name. The liner notes to this CD make it plain that there was some tension between Getz and Evans on this performance (Getz' fault mostly, it seems, no surprise there). It got to the point where Evans refused to comp behind Getz on one tune. So it's not hard to imagine that there were some major issues on the '64 studio session.
  18. The whole CD really, but Opus de Funk in particular. Other bands swung as hard at times, but none harder than this band on this track. This track will swing into the next world!
  19. Dude, is that a dead horse you guys are gathered around? I really need new glasses... Yeah, I was wondering. Looks like a dead boar to me, even more strange, right? Wonder what else there is in Lon's family album?
  20. What the heck - go with my heart. Toronto - 50 points
