  10. and then, for something different, yet oddly enough stored side by side on my shelf for reasons even I can't explain,
  11. No. This 1994 CD was part of a Verve Discoveries series of previously unreleased material. The 1964 group heard here was the quartet with Gary Burton, Gene Cherico and Joe Hunt, and this was the first and only studio session recorded by this quartet. As Mr. Burton wrote in a brief essay included here, Mr. Getz was worried that "the bossa nova was burying his jazz identity", so he wanted to record a straight jazz session. The record company wanted more of the bossa nova stuff, so this session sat on the shelves for 30 years. I really like the sound of Getz and Burton together and wished that combination had lasted a little longer. "Little Girl Blue" here is Stan at his Getziest.
  12. League records were made and then smashed and made again in Event 6: The 5 Meter Hurdles
  13. Here's the article about Mr. Gale's passing posted on the San Jose Mercury News' website: I'm still saddened by his passing. Mr. Gale's concerts were always memorable experiences for me. Thanks to him, I was able to hear, live and in-person, such musicians as Kidd Jordan, Prince Lasha and William Parker -- artists whose music I might otherwise not really have taken the time to explore. And as if to prove "no prophet is accepted in his hometown", I recall a duo performance he did with a keyboard player at a local Borders bookstore once. The audience scarcely outnumbered the performers. Farewell and thank you, Mr. Gale. May peace be with you and comfort come to your family members in this time of sorrow.
  14. A piano trio tribute to the music of Stevie Wonder.
  15. Event 5: The Long Jump My CCE did AOK in this event and keep rolling right along in good position for an overall medal. Next event will be the 5 Meter Hurdles.
