Just for clarification -- could you clearly define whether these photos are "porn" or "history"?

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
duaneiac replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Great. So we should look forward to in-depth televised interviews with individuals who will claim oxygen is bad for you, gravity is a fraud perpetuated by the Trilateral Commission and the menu at IHOP is a secretly coded message from the ancient Mayans. I'm sure such individuals will not be difficult to find and their views should be heard and considered. All as part of a meaningful, inclusive dialogue. All views/opinions must be considered equally, after all. -
Yes, what we need is more military members in the police because they have been so well trained and disciplined EDIT -- Photos of American military men/women proudly serving their country in Abu Ghraib prison have been removed from this post by the moderator. No argument from me. Just so folks know he what he is referring to in the post below. Hopefully some of those images from the recent past are still seared into our collective national soul.

Bonnie Pointer, founding member of the '70s and '80s R&B group The Pointer Sisters, has died. She was 69. The Grammy-winning artist died Monday morning, her sister and former bandmate, Anita, told PEOPLE in a statement. Her cause of death was not specified. "It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of The Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning," Anita said. "Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time." https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/bonnie-pointer-pointer-sisters-dead-211512238.html

Not just a B. B. King CD -- it's a B. B. King CD on which the band included (not just as "special guests", mind you, but on every track) Marcus Belgrave, Hank Crawford, David "Fathead" Newman, Russell Malone (rhythm guitar), Dr. John (Piano), Neil Larsen (Hammond organ), John Heard (bass) Earl Palmer (!!!) (drums) and Lenny Castro (perc.). I wish a few of the tracks stretched out a little longer and allowed the guys more solo space. Most of the numbers are in the spirit of Louis Jordan records, so they are jukebox friendly lengths, many under 3 minutes. They do stretch things out a bit on blues (no surprise) such as "Early In The Mornin'" and "I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts of Town".

Julie London is probably still damned underrated as a singer. What a shame. Nina Simone's version is a favorite as well.

Earlier: Currently: Beautiful version of "Some Other Time" on this one. It's been too long since I have revisited any titles in this Maybeck Hall series. Some really satisfying music by some of the world's greatest jazz pianists was preserved for us on these discs.. I wonder if there were any concerts left in the vaults by the time Concord ended the run of releases. There are certainly some pianists I wish had been recorded in this setting back in those days, such as Ray Bryant, Art Hodes, Mulgrew Miller, Sir Charles Thompson, Dorothy Donegan, Tommy Flanagan, Don Pullen.

Good luck with the judges part. The Republican led US Senate has been hurriedly confirming lifetime federal judicial appointments to individuals who could be charitably characterized as "unqualified". This legacy will haunt our government and our society for decades to come.

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.
duaneiac replied to EKE BBB's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Last week I saw a TV commercial which used a segment of "Shelter From The Storm" as music. I was so stunned, I did not even remember what the ad was for. I did a search and found out it was for Zillow. I guess if you gotta use music in your TV commercial, it may as well be from a Nobel Prize winner. Mr. Zimmerman is free to do with his work as he likes, but I confess hearing that song, from that album used to peddle whatever -- I felt a little sad, a little disappointed, a little betrayed. So it seemed appropriate to listen to the album, not that I ever really need a reason for listening to one of my favorite albums. -

Discs 2 & 1 (in that order, for no real reason) of 2. -

These two recordings combine Art Hodes' talents as a musician and a writer/storyteller. Each is a 2 CD set. The premise on each is that Mr. Hodes will play a bit of piano (often one of his tasty blues numbers) while telling tales about his experiences in the music biz including lots of anecdotes about the many famous musicians he knew and whom he was fortunate enough to play/record with back in the glory days of jazz. The first set is about his New York stories and the other one is about Chicago based tales. Not something I listen to often, but each is a very entertaining, engaging and rewarding listening experience

Did you throw out your stimulus payment by mistake?

Ok. That's helpful (and good) news. Thanks. -

I'm curious if these debit cards will have expiration dates. This money is still going to be taxed as income, right? So if some one were to use one of these debit cards and perhaps used say 90% of the funds before they set it aside and forgot about it, would the remaining 10% of funds expire after a set period of time? One would still have to pay taxes on the full amount even if one did not use the full amount of funds provided. I'm guessing the govt. beancounters hope it works out that way. People forget to finish off gift cards all the time. -
So it is more of a "jazzy" compilation than a jazz one. Still, this Capitol collection has one track by The Latin Jazz Sextet featuring Eric Dolphy as well as selections by jazz musicians like Laurindo Almeida and Dick Hyman. Jack Costanzo, of course, is all over this disc, both as a leader and sideman.

An excellent, but perhaps overlooked Willie Nelson album. It's also ample proof that, for a time, Kris Kristofferson was a top-notch songwriter. -
Lesser-Known Leaders with Well-Known Sidemen

It's a little hard to read, but the featured musicians on this 1991 CD included Clark Terry, Sir Roland Hanna, Benny Green, Geoff Keezer, Lonnie Plaxico, "Bobby" Cranshaw, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Kenny Washington and Nicholas Payton.
