Red, thanks. That is very helpful. I once had an Ehrlich recording. Didn't like his playing on it very much. Couldn't quite figure out why. He didn't seem that interesting. A lot of fire, but no ideas. Or so it seemed to me. I was listening to Ab Baars last night. Wow! He is an interesting player.

Thanks, Red, for your comments. But I meant (I should have been clearer) the recordings in which Braxton plays the piano, with Marty Ehrlich on sax. Well, GregK, let me know what you think of the recording you get.

Any comments would be appreciated.

On eBay a seller named CDHut is selling this 2-disc set for a very reasonable price. I bought a copy last week, and I am very pleased with it. The music is really outstanding. There are a couple of vocals by Irene Aebi, but even these are not so bad. I've heard her vocals described often as "acquired taste". I doubt that is the case; I doubt that the taste can be acquired. But in this case, they hold out a fascination analogous to that of an accident scene. And it is truly wondrous how Lacy accompanies her and makes best of the situation. So, although the set is not without faults, it is really worth getting for the price for which it is advertised. Potts is outstanding.

Some time last year, after listening to "NY1", I contacted Blue Note to encourage them to record more Solal. They wrote back to tell me that they are planning a studio recording for Fall 2005. I hope that plan is still on.

So how is it? Is it worth the $25-30? I am intrigued by the first track that has Zoot Sims, Gerry Mulligan, and Monk.

Thanks very much for very helpful comments. I guess I will start with Konitz's recordings with Alan Broadbent first.

I really like both of Konitz and Solal, and "Star Eyes, Hamburg 1983" (Hatology) is one of my favorite recordings. So, I am wondering about the following 1968 recordings on Cam: "European Episode" "Impressive Rome" Any comments about the music and the sound on these recordings? Many thanks in advance.

Up with price reductions.

Thanks. I guess I was incompetent in my search. I put in an order. Hope it works. Thanks a lot!!

They don't have it listed. Cadence has some good ones listed, but not the one being sought. ← They do, actually. ← I don't see it. Perhaps someone beat me to it?

Bol, Horns are together on 3 tracks - Somebody Loves Me, A Foggy Day, Nice Work If You Can Get It. Frank Wess solos on 2 tracks - How Long Has This Been Going On, Bess, You Is My Woman Now. A great round of solos on S'Wonderful. The trio is featured on remaining of 10 tracks. ← Ron, Thank you for the helpful response.

I did already. No luck.

Does anyone know where I can get this CD? It was released in 1999, so should be around a bit but I am not having any luck. Any help would be much appreciated.
-
Do the 4 horn players play together? Or is the CD like "Stardust" in that only one guest will play on any one song?
-
Does anyone know what happened to the K2 re-issues that were promised for this summer? Not a trace of the announcement on the Fantasy website now. I hope Concord is not eliminating this fine line of re-issues.
-
Thanks to both of you. I will definitely check out Jazz Messengers.

So, I am taking a vacation in Spain in a week. I will be visiting Madrid and Barcelona. Does anyone know of any good jazz CD stores in those cities? Ideally, I would like to find some European label CDs that are so hard to find here -- say, Hat Art and some Dutch labels. (I fantasize about coming across a stack of OOP Gerry Hemingway & Clusone Trio CDs!!) In case you know of any good ones, please let me know. I leave on the 19th.

Great news! I've been wanting some of these for a long time. I wish Dave Brubeck's "Compadres" (w/ Mulligan) was included. But perhaps next time. What is "Drum Suite" like? Is it a usual Messengers album, or is it one of those all drums albums? I could not find any description on AMG.

I hope there is a new one coming from Liberty Ellman soon. His recent "Tactiles" was terrific. One of my favorite recordings in recent years.
