  1. My daughter bought this for me: She only gave it to me last night. Looking forward to diving in.
  2. Foundation: The Doc Watson Guitar Instrumental Collection, 1964-1998 (Sugar Hill)
  3. Now spinning, prompted by this thread: Sal Mosca - For You (Choice, 1979)
  4. For a steaming hot slab of funk, Moon Germs is hard to beat. If there's more available, I'd love to hear it.
  5. Seconded!
  6. Now on my turntable: Egberto Gismonti - Dança das Cabeças (ECM, 1977) with percussionist Naná Vasconcelos My admiration for Gismonti continues to grow. For years, my impressions of him were WAY off the mark. Incidentally, my copy of this LP is a German pressing. AQ is outtasight -- soooo much better than U.S. pressings, even for a someone like me with less than ideal hearing and a solid-but-nothing-special stereo system. I think Outback is the pick of the litter among Farrell's CTI's.
  7. Listening to the second LP from this 1970s 2-fer, originally released as All Mornin' Long. The original LP is one of my favorite covers: There's just a RIGHTNESS about Red Garland's playing that always gets me. Oh yeah. Outstanding LP!
  8. Such a cool record.
  9. Next up: Jo Jones - The Main Man (Pablo, 1976)
  10. Now spinning: Sue Raney - All by Myself (Capitol, 1964) arranged & conducted by Ralph Carmichael
  11. Yusef Lateef - Hush 'N' Thunder (Atlantic, 1973)
  12. NP: The Chico O'Farrill Sessions: Cuban Blues (Verve, 2 CDs)
  13. with Rufus Reid & Freddie Waits
  14. CD compiles two early Barretto albums: - Latino! (1963), and - Pachanga with Barretto (1961)
  15. Now listening to Disc 1 from this set: Latino America is an expanded reissue of Gato's first two Impulse LPs: - Chapter One: Latin America (1973) and - Chapter Two: Hasta Siempre (1974)
  16. Machito Orchestra - "Fireworks" (Coco, 1977) Special Guest Artist: Lalo Rodriguez
  17. 18. Me too. Agreed on all counts. I'm now streaming this -- since I'm not in the basement, where my turntable is: Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia - Wilde Tales (MCA UK, 1979) with Colin Dudman (p, el p, synth), Dill Katz (el b), and Jon Hiseman (d) Terrific.
