  1. All Hail King Kirby! Back-to-back National Championships for the University of Georgia. It's a good time to be a Dawg.
  2. But does the album include a version of the "Star Wars" theme -- like Murray's lounge act?!?
  3. Now listening to Narciso Yepes' recording of Salvador Bacarisse's Concertino for Guitar and Orchestra (and other works) on this disc: ¡Magnífica!
  4. Louisiana Slim from this CD: and Chun-King from this CD:
  5. Now streaming: Yeah!
  6. Yeah, I've got those. Good stuff, for sure.
  7. John Handy & Ali Akbar Khan - Karuna Supreme (MPS, 1975) Gorgeous.
  8. I've loved Johnny's music since I was a kid. Aside from the radio hits, Rosanne's music is a relatively recent discovery for me. Over the last few years, I've been exploring her catalog. She's sorta hit me upside the head -- in the best possible way. I think she's an amazing singer and songwriter.
  9. Next up: Carol Sloane - Sophisticated Lady (Audiophile, rec. 1977) An all Ellington program with top-shelf accompaniment by Roland Hanna, George Mraz, and Richie Pratt
  10. Now spinning: Art Pepper - Road Game (Galaxy, 1982) with George Cables, David Williams, and Carl Burnett These 1981 recordings from the Maiden Voyage nightclub in L.A. are sooooo good.
  11. I still regularly go on "benders." It's usually an artist, rather than a particular album. Other times, I might narrowly focus on sub-genres (like, say, Brazilian jazz) or eras (early-70s jazz). Also, I find that that I'll always return to stuff that makes an impact. So I might go on a bender (and almost over do it), but eventually I'll come back again. It's a sort of circling around process, coming-and-going -- and then coming-and-going again. Yes! For me, one of life's great pleasures is diving into the deep end of the pool & splashing about -- immersing yourself in an artist's music.
  12. Back to this set: Disc 4 - Works by Beethoven: - Violin Concerto in D, Op. 61 - with André Cluytens, Orchestre National de la Radiodiffusion Française - Violin Sonata No. 9 in A, Op. 47 'Kreutzer' - with Lev Oborin
  13. with Joe Henderson, Oscar Brashear, Tommy Flanagan, Ron Carter, and Billy Higgins
  14. Next up: Lambert, Hendricks & Bavan - At Newport '63 (RCA Jazz Line, France) with Clark Terry, Coleman Hawkins, a.o.
