  1. Metheny / Mehldau (Nonesuch, 2006) I've seen this album compared to the Bill Evans/Jim Hall collaborations, but I think it's much closer--in terms of its overall vibe, if not instrumentation--to ECM albums from the 1970s like Crystal Silence or Matchbook or Bright Size Life.
  2. Rick Margitza - Hands of Time (Challenge, 1995)
  3. If I recall correctly, David Lean's films Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago had intermissions. Maurice Jarre composed the music for both. Hearing (more of) EKE's music would be too much of an incentive to stay in my seat, rather than making a dash to the concessions stand or restroom.
  4. To the best of my knowledge, here are a few more Inner City "originals" -- releases that weren't leased from another label: - John Stowell - Golden Delicious - Ray Mantilla - Mantilla - Bill O'Connell - Searching All relatively obscure, but some darn good records, IMO. I bet there are more. Per Discogs, Cosmos was released on Cobra -- a French label that I've never heard of -- a year before the Inner City release. So my GUESS would be... probably not. Regardless of the original label, the music is OUTSTANDING.
  5. The Very Best of Bobby Bare (United Artists) Compiles tracks from Bare's early-70s Mercury LPs
  6. This disc comes FLYING out of the gate with Strozier's smoking, Coltrane-esque version of the Marvin Gaye classic. Along with a cup of strong coffee, the music is serving nicely as a much needed Monday morning pick-me-up. Such a great album. BIG
  7. Yes, that appears to be the case. I just checked Discogs, and Tom Barney plays on Miles' Star People. I would've never made the connection if you hadn't asked.
  8. Next up: Johnny Hammond - The Prophet (Kudu, 1973)
  9. Walter Davis Trio - Night Song (Denon, 1979)
  10. Cleo Laine - At The Wavendon Festival (Black Lion, 1976) and Walter Davis Jr. - 400 Years Ago, Tomorrow (Owl, 1979)
  11. Now: Bill O'Connell - Searching (Inner City, 1978)
  12. Now spinning: Don Ellis at Fillmore (Columbia, 1970)
  13. A brilliant insight into the true & universal nature of reality, I'd say. I second that opinion!
  14. This book just arrived in the mail: Ruminations and Reflections: The Musical Journey of Dave Liebman and Richie Beirach (Cymbal Press, 2022) Two of my musical heroes.
  15. Now spinning: Dr. L. Subramaniam - Garland - Featuring: Svend Asmussen (Storyville, rec. 1978) with: - Violin, Viola, Svara Mandala, Compositions & Arrangements - Dr. L. Subramaniam - Violin - Svend Asmussen - Guitar - Ole Fick - Keyboards - Kenneth Knudsen - Acoustic Bass - Hugo Rasmussen - Electric Bass - Bo Stief - Drums - Luiz Carlos De Siqueira - Percussion - Kim Menzer - Mridangam - Mr. Chatterjee, Mr. V. Raghavan

    Teddy Edwards

Don't overlook this one: It's one of Edwards' best, imo.
  17. Next up: Chet Baker Quartet featuring Russ Freeman (Pacific Jazz) "West Coast Classics" series CD - Trumpet - Chet Baker - Piano - Russ Freeman - Bass - Bob Whitlock (tracks: 1 to 4), Carson Smith (tracks: 5 to 22), Joe Mondragon (tracks: 23 to 25) - Drums - Bobby White (tracks: 1 to 4), Larry Bunker (tracks: 5 to 22), Shelly Manne (tracks: 23 to 25)
  18. Picked up this disc recently; giving it another spin: This CD combines two Timmons LPs: Little Barefoot Soul (1964) and Chun-King (1965). Good stuff.
