  1. This is a promo photo instead of an album cover, but it's still meets the "wrong instrument" criteria:
  2. Excellent article, Mark. Thanks for sharing.
  3. I've posted this week's albums on MORE FAVORITES: Reflections on Jazz in the 1980s: - Milt Jackson - Night Mist (Pablo/OJC, 1981) - Arthur Blythe - Illusions (Columbia, 1980) - Weather Report - Night Passage (Columbia, 1980) Take a peek at the commentary on the blog. Would love to hear what you think. One note: Two out of three albums from a "major label," Columbia. Well, that is a thing of the past.
  4. I agree completely. The EKE bio was a huge disappointment -- very frustrating and unfair.
  5. Spinning this LP again: , Lovely.
  6. George Adams-Don Pullen Quartet - Decisions (Timeless, 1984)
  7. More from the wonderful Lebanese oud player Rabih Abou-Khalil: Bukra (MMP/Enja, 1989) with Sonny Fortune
  8. Now: Attila Zoller - Memories of Pannonia (Enja, 1986)
  9. Rabih Abou-Khalil - Between Dusk and Dawn (MMP/Enja, 1987) Peter, I'm not familiar with that album -- but what a cover image! Very compelling. Is that Pan who's chasing the clouds?
  10. American Express credit card points.
  11. If you're enjoying that LP, you might want to check out Jones' next album, Hill Country Suite (Enja, 1974). I think it's even better. I've been thinking about ordering that LP too. But I've hesitated b/c the price is steep. How's the audio quality?
  12. Sounds like a fantastic find, Dmitry! ... Like others have said, I'd love to see a detailed inventory of what's in the boxes.
  13. Conrad Herwig Quintet - The Amulet (Ken Music, 1992)
  14. Interesting. I don't recall seeing that uncropped photo before. ... It's amazing how much cropping it and adding a blue filter transforms the image.
  15. Next up: Some excellent playing here by a very young Renee Rosnes.
  16. Very hip taxonomy.
  17. Totally agree. So dark, almost "evil" -- like Bitches Brew. Hadn't seen your quote, Rab, when I described it as "evil." Obviously, we're hearing it similarly.
  18. Weber's sound has always been distinctive. You've got to give him that. ... But I suppose I've never found his sound terribly appealing either. As always, different strokes and all that.
  19. First spin of this new-to-me disc: Gil Goldstein - City of Dreams (Blue Note, 1989) with John Patitucci, Lenny White, Don Alias, a.o.
