  1. Hilarious video -- but so RIGHT ON!!!
  2. mjzee, I dig Demons in Pursuit too. It's a great record -- and a shame that it's not more readily available. Over the last few years, I've been digging into Walrath's discography, and I think he's extremely under-appreciated. I love his (sometimes more-than-slightly) off-kilter perspective, the humor he brings to his music. A few of my favorites -- along with Demons in Pursuit (!) : Hi Jinx (Stash) - CD compiles two LPs: Revenge of the Fat People (1982) and A Plea for Sanity (1983) Wholly Trinity (Muse, 1986) - with Jimmy Madison & Chip Jackson Neohippus (Blue Note, 1989) Gut Feelings (Muse, 1991) Serious Hang (Muse, 1992) Portraits in Ivory and Brass (Mapleshade, 1994) - with Larry Willis & Steve Novosel Each of these records is unique, offering up varying aspects of Walrath's musical personality. The dude's got some scope! ... I need to pick up some of his more recent recordings. For example, I haven't heard any of his SteepleChase discs (yet). Yes! The Next Step is especially good!
  3. This looks fantastic. In some ways, this '79 group looks even MORE enticing than the '82 band on Woody's other Onkel Pö's set. Don't get me wrong. I love Mulgrew. ... But hearing Onaje and Carter Jefferson in Shaw's band. That's something else.
  4. Enjoying this very, very much. Seems to be subtly different than Ibrahim's music with American or European musicians.
  5. Deer Wan is probably my single favorite Kenny Wheeler record. But previously I only owned the LP. It'll be nice to be able to listen to it at work, in the car, etc. going forward. 🙂
  6. Fantastic stuff, for sure.
  7. Stopped at a local shop on the way home from work tonight. Here's what I brought home: JAZZ Peter Bernstein Quartet - Signs of Life (Criss Cross) CD Eddie Harris - Is It In (Atlantic) LP John Hicks, Buster Williams, Louis Hayes - On the Wings of an Eagle (Chesky) SACD Irakere - The Best of Irakere (Columbia/Legacy) CD Rodney Jones - Dreams and Stories (Savant) CD Herbie Mann - The Evolution of Mann (Atlantic) 2 LPs Carmen McRae - Here to Stay (Decca/GRP) CD Sonny Rollins - Global Warming (Milestone) CD Kenny Wheeler - Deer Wan (ECM) CD CLASSICAL Brahms - Lieder / Christa Ludwig, Leonard Bernstein (Columbia) LP Brahms - Complete Piano Quartets / Beaux Arts Trio, Walter Trampler (Philips) 2 CDs Schumann - Piano Sonatas / Lazar Berman (Melodiya/Columbia) LP Rachmaninoff - "The Complete Rachmaninoff, Vol. 1: Acoustic Recordings (1919-1924)" / Sergei Rachmaninoff (RCA) 3 LPs Rachmaninoff - "The Complete Rachmaninoff, Vol. 2: Works for Solo Piano..." / Sergei Rachmaninoff (RCA) 3 LPs Believe it or not, since most of these came from the store's dollar bins, the total cost was less than $25.
  8. Disc 1 - originally released as A Fuego Vivo
  9. Thirty lashes and then you'll be thrown in the dungeon!
  10. Ben in outstanding form -- with Kenny Drew, NHØP, and Alex Riel in 1965.
  11. I suppose that makes sense. It's not a "typical Bill Evans" sound, for sure. NP: Transcendent.
