  1. NP: ... of the EU?
  2. Yeah, those would both be on my desert-island ECM list also. No doubt. Hooray for Joe!
  3. Enjoying this new-to-me George Colligan disc:
  4. Fantastic playlist, Ken! I'll try to tune in on Sunday.
  5. Not "in stone" -- but I've got the entire year mapped out now. So I don't expect it to change. Thanks Ken! I hope to accomplish that goal.
  6. NP: When we were talking about Rachmaninov's Third Symphony the other day, I forgot to mention this version. Stoki conducted the world-premiere performance of this work.
  7. More Pat Martino:
  8. Another mid-70s Muse:
  9. Along with the LPs already mentioned, I'd suggest Bobo Stenson's Underwear and Dave Liebman's Lookout Farm. Also, Chick's Return to Forever, recorded in 1972. To me, this version of the band -- with Airto & Flora -- was the most interesting incarnation of RTF, by far.
  10. Now listening to Eric Kloss' Essence, prompted by discussion elsewhere on the board: Oh man, Buster Williams throws down on this one. Hannibal too.
  11. This again: Barry Altschul - You Can't Name Your Own Tune (32 Jazz / Muse) with Muhal Richard Abrams, Sam Rivers, George Lewis, and Dave Holland
  12. Count Basie - Have a Nice Day (Daybreak, 1971) All Sammy Nestico compositions & arrangements

Yes! Together, a duo record with Barry Miles, is outstanding too. . . . Don't judge this book by it's cover!
  14. Funny how we all hear things differently! Any misgivings I have about this record are due to the saxophonist. Sanborn just seems like as an odd choice. Billy Hart, on the other hand, can do no wrong -- on this record or anywhere else. Just my P.O.V., of course.
  15. Two by Teddy Charles: and
  16. with Junior Mance, Larry Gales, and Ben Riley
