  1. I don't have the new set (yet), but I do have that particular LP. Some of Pepper's best!
  2. Tintagel and his other tone poems are probably the best place to begin. Both Bryden Thomson and Vernon Handley have recorded Bax extensively -- both the tone poems and symphonies. I tend to prefer Thomson's recordings, but each has their strengths.
  3. Such beautiful & joyous music.
  4. Jasper Van't Hof & Charlie Mariano with Steve Swallow - Brutto Tempo (Intuition, 2001)
  5. Charlie Mariano & Jasper Van't Hof featuring Marilyn Mazur - Innuendo (Lipstick Records, 1993)
  6. Yep. It's up to the store. Different from location to location. That said, you can ask the stores ahead of time, and they'll likely tell you what they're bringing in. But they won't let you buy anything until the actual RSD day. Or they're not supposed to, at least.
  7. Cool. Thanks for the heads up. Just curious: Is the author, Maria Golia, any relation to Vinny?
  8. I suppose this is a bit like those "Whack a Mole" games at amusement parks. As soon as you whack one, another pops up. And on and on it goes. Must be incredibly frustrating.
  9. I'm not a huge Eberhard Weber fan, but there is something about this particular record that keeps me coming back. ... And Charlie Mariano (!!), of course. and R.I.P. Larry Willis.
  10. A desert-island disc.
  11. A TERRIFIC book, as is Swafford's biography of Charles Ives. Just started this today:
  12. John Hicks - Nightwind: An Erroll Garner Songbook (HighNote)
  13. François Jeanneau - Techniques douces (Owl, 1976) with Michel Graillier, Jean-François Jenny-Clark, and Aldo Romano
  14. Junior Cook - Pressure Cooker (Affinity, rec. 1977) with Mickey Tucker, Cecil McBee (or Juini Booth on two cuts), and Leroy Williams
