  1. I wholeheartedly agree re: Carnival. "The Mystery of Love"!!! And that tribute to Duke!!!
  2. Thanks Larry. I'll check 'em out!
  3. Thought of mentioning Ronnie Mathews as well! Cowell I'd have assumed to be well-known enough, but that may be just me ... as for the pantheon, yep, full agreement there - and one name to add: Don Friedman king ubu (and others), I only own one Friedman record. I guess I should investigate his music more thoroughly. Which of his recordings are your favorites?
  4. Richie Beirach!!! - In my opinion, he's one of the unacknowledged jazz giants of his (or any) generation. Joanne Brackeen - Another monstrously talented pianist who's under-appreciated, I think. Ronnie Mathews Mike Wofford Joe Bonner Alan Broadbent I'd also second the nomination for Stanley Cowell. Some other pianists who are (perhaps a bit) more well-known but deserve greater accolades. These guys belong in the PANTHEON. Or at least they're in mine! Sir Roland Hanna Martial Solal Jimmy Rowles Steve Kuhn Hampton Hawes
  5. I recently bought a copy of its sibling 3 Phasis from an amazon third party seller and was shipped a CD-R. New World Records has started using these CD-Rs for back catalogue titles without informing their clientel what is and isn't on CD-R. The copy of Cecil Taylor Unit I bought was a real CD. I got a full refund for 3 Phasis and bought a near mint second hand copy on Discogs instead. Oh, that's a bummer! But I'm glad that you ended up with a real CD in the end. It seems underhanded of New World to use CD-Rs instead of CDs without clearly labeling them as such. Not cool.
  6. Same here. Will there be anything on offer music-wise?
  7. Al Cohn's America (Xanadu, 1977) Snagged this LP at Euclid Records in NOLA this weekend. Sounds great!
  8. Picked up these today: - Al Cohn's America (Xanadu LP) - Richard Davis - As One (Muse LP) - Shelly Manne Quartet featuring Lee Konitz - French Concert (Galaxy LP) - Cecil Taylor Unit (New World CD) - Jaki Byard - Sunshine of My Soul: Live at the Keystone Korner (HighNote CD) I downloaded this from emusic a couple years ago, but I decided to upgrade to a CD since the music is so stinkin' magnificent. Ives is the man! Woo-hoo!
  9. xybert, there's no fingerprint on my disc 2. You might want to write to Mosaic about it. I've only had one issue with a Mosaic disc, and they sent me a replacement in a snap.
  10. Now this: Joanne Brackeen with Eddie Gomez - Prism (Choice, rec. 1978)
  11. Stanley Cowell Trio - Illusion Suite (ECM, rec. 1972) with Stanley Clarke (b) and Jimmy Hopps (d)
  12. Sorry to hear that Greenfield has passed -- but what a lovely way of thinking about the "critic's" job! I admire that very much.
  13. Thanks for the heads-up on this Ronnie Scott's archival stuff, Marcello. I didn't know that this music had been released. Definitely something that I'm going to check out.
  14. As a Hawks fan, I'm sorry to see DeMarre Carroll go. That said, I'm glad that the Hawks were able to re-sign Paul Millsap. And adding Tiago Splitter was a nice move. I think the Hawks will be in the mix again next year. But I don't think we've acquired the players to get to "the next level." I guess we'll see...
  15. After listening to Green Shading Into Blue today (via YouTube), I decided to order this: I'm sorta stoked, looking forward to hearing all of it.
  16. GREAT MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of Woody's very best, imho.
  17. I've also enjoyed this one: Our Kind of Sabi - with John Surman & Daniel Humair
  18. I've got a few days of vacation later this week, and I'm hoping to get some riding in. I might make a run up to the north Georgia mountains. My bike is a 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200R. It's loads of fun to ride. Sadly, I've barely touched it this year. Life's just been busy, and I've been focused on other things. Here's a pic from a ride that my wife and I took a few years ago:
  19. agreed .... I'd never heard Free Spirits before. Just listening to "Ode to Saint Cecile" on YT now. Wow! What a TIGHT trio! This record goes right to the top of my "to get" list. Thanks for the heads-up!!!
  20. A bunch of JH's Milestones are excellent. My favorite from that era is Canyon Lady. To that end, if the Milestone box is still available cheaply, that's money (less) money well-spent. Yep. I got that box CHEAP. And it's chock-full of fantastic music.
