  1. Any recommendations? Should I just buy a Bose self-contained system. I believe the Bose wave system goes for $500, and there's an acoustic wave at around $1,000. Is there anything better for $1,000 or less? (I know nothing about audio systems.) Thanks
  2. Mama Wailer is better...
  3. Anyone who makes Chuck think should be avoided at all costs! Clem is arrogant and illiterate. At the same time, I pay him some grudging respect. He earns points for creativity, eccentricity, and entertainment. I'd like to see him come back as well (until he pisses me off once more...) I'm just sentimental about the whole gang, I guess.
  4. I had the chance to get the box set for $80, but I passed it up. I bought "Turn Out the Stars" box set instead, because the audio quality was so much better. I did place a sample disc on the store cd player to compare the two. I bet the boxset is still there in Ann Arbor. I felt the sound quality of the Secret Sessions is too poor to justify the purchase. But I'm fussy about good mastering. I bet the music is good...
  5. Came to this thread late. I'm sorry to hear of your loss, Conrad. Be strong; you've got friends here.
  6. Linebacker Ted Johnson suddenly announced his retirement, and now the Patriots have to take another look at a position which required attention once Bruscke was placed on the physically unable to perform list. They picked up Chad Brown and Monty Beisel over the offseason, but it will be interesting to see if they sign another linebacker. They may decide to ride with what they've got. Rodney Harrison is one of several underpaid Patriot players. His agent wouldn't reveal anything, but said he'd be taking the practice field today "a happy man." Must have renegotiated his contract. Pats will play hardball with Richard Seymour regarding his contract. He's got two years left and the team is close to the salary cap limit. Players don't sit out games anymore, though they might miss training camp. Seymour doesn't have many options at this stage other than to play. Interesting to see if they dominate again this year. On paper they are very deep, but there are those intangibles... If the Browns are going 16-0, then I guess the Pats will go 50-0!
  7. You sure it wasn't Tiny Brooks? ← or that great guitarist for Jimmy Smith, known as Eddie Mcfanney!
  8. Sums it up for me as well.
  9. I upgraded the Blakey, the Grant Green, and bought for the first time the Hancock and Freddie Redd. A quick listen and I wasn't impressed with either the Freddie Redd nor the Herbie Hancock.
  10. ← Agreed, but this is a costly cd. I paid over $20 for mine. Available only in Japanese editions, i believe.
  11. seems like a good guy...
  12. Happy Birthday J. Lar!
  13. I was a Marvel comics fanatic during the 60s and 70s. Haven't read a comic book since 1976...
  14. That would be my prediction as well, but I've got to change it now that SS1 publicly predicts that score!
  15. I don't like TV shows, but I've got.... Complete Twilight Zone Complete Mr. Bean. Nothng else.
  16. Not one of my faves. I'm not a huge fan of the Lonnie/Kudo period. Pretty low on the Lonnie list for me, but others may differ. ← On the other hand, I very much find this one a keeper. "Mama Wailer" is a great tune. Pick it up, SS1. ← I relistened to this the other day and found it absolutely inspired. Great LP I've really ignored unjustly. Ron Carter plays some super badass electric bass too. ← Have you picked this one up yet, SS1?
  17. Happy 16th, Jazzy...
  18. Happy Birthday Guy! Keep on bringing good old common sense to the politics threads...
  19. Definitely worth taking a photo for...
  20. Yes, the movie could have been handled better. Reed was definitely a wimp. Ben's marriage quickly falls apart when his wife sees his new condition. She dramatically takes off her wedding ring amongst a crowd and drops it on the ground. Ben's fingers are too large to pick up something so small. I can't say that she acted very nobly at all; and there was no character development. I felt that part was very weak. On the other hand, Johnny (human torch) was great. There was a great scene as he was being chased by a heat seeking missile. He had some great lines. The movie wasn't very deep, but I wasn't looking for a deep movie. I wanted a fun distraction for an evening out with my kid, and that's exactly what I got! Cripes, you guys want depth, go pick up a Faulkner novel. I watch movies for fun. I still recommend the film.
  21. Is he generally accurate? I think that often our sense of enjoyment (or lack of) is determined by what we bring to the movie. In my case, it was an outing with my 12 year old son. I managed to pry his sleep-deprived hands from the computer mouse...
  22. I saw its premiere this evening in Toledo. Very enjoyable. Anyone else catch it?
  23. Great version of "Tenderly!" Worth getting , imo. But then I'm a big greazzzy eater!
