Also the group, Chicago did some wonderful early stuff. Catesta mentioned Saturday in the Park. They had some great tunes and I loved the brass section. How about Boz Scaggs, "Lowdown?" Great funky pop. All time classic: Don Mclean, "American Pie." Everybody loved that single when it came out. Also Harry Chapin's "Taxi."

Crosby, Stills, & Nash, "Love the One You're With" Argent, "Hold your Head High" "Green Eyed Lady" who did that one? Liked a lot of Crosby Stills, Nash stuff.

I guess I'm pretty loyal to Dusty Groove (the bastards!)

NFL draft

MAN!! A lady who knows her football. Well.... -
It seems that most teams were big winners in this year's draft. It was a deep selection and most teams improved themselves. Offhand, Detroit and Atlanta seem to be the big winners. Oakland did well too especially if we count their free agent signings. Redskins picked up a monster in Sean Taylor. Browns made a dopey trade to move up one spot with Detroit. In a deep draft like this why give away a high second rounder? New England hardly drafted according to need early on. They just seemed to pick for value in the first couple of rounds. Interesting...

Swapping Old Discs For Credit...

I've never gotten much for anything I've traded in stores, but I've had some good purchases. -
You did the right thing Jim by contacting that bidder. I would have done the same. I once contacted a bidder who was bidding up a hefty price for a cd which was about to be reissued as a Conn. I told him that he would be paying a big price for something that would be a lot cheaper in a few weeks. We became friendly and I invited him to this board. His name is Evan.

Typical good sense coming from Sangrey. I don't disagree with what people have been saying here, but Americans are too easily offended it seems. Let's make everything so politically correct that we can no longer say anything in art. That's a general statement and general concern folks. It may or may not apply to the video discussed here. Granted I haven't seen the video nor am interested in seeing it, but I do like to see a lot of leeway in art. I am always leery about public perception trying to homogenize all our images. -
Any early reggae fans in here?

Yes, I was very much aware of them. We bought our groceries from Chinese merchants, and many Chinese-Jamaicans owned and operated small shops. They played a dominant role as merchants on the island. Don't know which Chinese province/provinces they came from originally. In general, you will find Chinese, Irish and Indian people just about everywhere on this earth. The diaspora was great. Unfortunately, I don't have anything else to add on the subject. Some of the Chinese-Jamaicans even sponsored some of those dances I quoted. One interesting group of Jamaicans were old Spanish-Jews who had escaped the Spanish Inquisition. Several of these families ranked amongst the richest Jamaicans. I can actually name some last names, which I have in a book, but that probably wouldn't interest too many people. -

btw, I ran into a mob of Ben's outside who claim they won't go home until the disc is done: there was also a drunk: a couple of space aliens who claim they heard the band's debut recording out on Mars: Enough pressure on you guys?? -

I am anxiously awaiting this tribute disc. I have a certain feeling that I have heard several of the tunes performed live by Organissimo already... -
Weaning someone into jazz.

I'd suggest Horace Silver' "Song For My Father," or any other of Horace's classic BN stuff. They will catch on real quick! -
Ha, I heard that song on the radio the other day and was just lovin' it! War indeed... they ruled. Great song! I loved it too! Cool lyrics.

Artists you wished recorded more.
connoisseur series500 replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
1. Clifford Brown. Would love to have seen the direction he would have taken. 2. Big John Patton. I think he has been underrecorded. His stature and abilities deserved more. 3. Larry Young. Not enough of him! 4. Joe Bonner. Beautiful style and great composer as well. 5. Salim Washington. I can only find one cd of his. 6. Woody Shaw. Can never get enough of this great trumpeter. 7. Duke Pearson. He should have recorded more as well. -

Ha! Sir L.S. Biggs? Can't be no one other than Ellis Biggs!!! B) Keep 'em coming man! I'm diggin' the hell out of these! Cheers, Shane Seems to me that the musicians who acquired some degree of fame came out in the later years. Most of my cards are from the mid-60s and before the Rocksteady time. Wonder what happened to the earlier musicians...
