  1. Great idea, B-3er. We could use a CLASP icon. In the meantime, this member of the SOBER OPPRESSED has received not one cubit of sympathy from that noted scholar of bulletin board jurisprudence, DEEP LEGISLATION! Instead he has accused me of word INTOXICATION; and has volunteered a further use for my probiscus beyond it's GOD GIVEN PURPOSES. He suggests that I use it for sniffing up illegal particles. This would be highly OFFENSIVE to us TEA DRINKERS. I plead to your LILIPUTIAN conscience DEEP.
  2. It has come to my attention that many people in the crowd have been commenting on the length of my nose. As part of the SOBER minority, who are devoid of any rights in the country and on this board, I do lodge a public protest. It seems that these types are superficially concerned about nose lengths while failing to notice that it is FAR FROM being my longest appendage. Surely there's some statute in the board coda here which can be quoted in order to address this most distressing issue? I leave it to the board lawyers to locate and read the appropriate rules in this matter. DEEP, you appear to be an assiduous scholar of board jurisprudence. Perhaps you can help me in my deep troubles. We both share a swelling mortmain (look it up!) of grievances. TEA makes me drunk.
  3. And I'm supposed to follow your website?? Sheeesh!
  4. If possible and if it wouldn't be inconvenient, consider stopping by in Toledo, Jim D. If we have enough time, I could take you to either Ann Arbor for cds or Detroit for books. Let me know, Paul
  5. Don't care for yours either, Pete. I forgot how to set and change those avatars. I have thought of changing mine but since I don't know how and people know me by this one, I think it will stick! Feel free, Pete, to send me some avatar samples to choose from and as long as you do the work, I might consider the switch.
  6. DEEP ONE: The difference has to do with malicious intent, my friend. Double M clearly meant you no harm, but was in fact paying you hommage to some degree. People can tease me all they want as long as it's done in good fun and there's no malicious intent. (Cripe, they can probably throw in maliciousness as well, why not? ) I am extremely jealous that DEEP is taking all the teasing while I sit here in the corner comprehensively ignored! What about the rights of us SOBER people?? Don't we have the right to be teased too? At this great banquet table of RIGHTS, I have not yet been SERVED!!
  7. I'm the good loking one. Can't you tell? LDB The other guy is my COnquistador pal in El Fuerte, Sinaloa, Mexico. Senor HOP So much for theories. I thought you were the tall stiff one. Damn! lost my bet with Deep on that one. Seriously: great pic, Clint!
  8. Clint, You still haven't answered the question as to which figure are you in your avatar. B)
  9. Yes, Jim, I've got to check out both places. Cleveland also, which is only 2 hours away. It's on my to-do list for sure.
  10. I've been spinning this one quite a bit lately in order to post something here. I'm not a big fan of Sam Rivers, but this is a terrific cd for sure. Everyone was definitely clicking that evening. I am particularly impressed with Jaki Byard and Tony Williams. My only knowledge of Byard comes from his work with Booker Ervin and I cannot remember him playing as well as he does here. (Granted, I've got to really listen to those Ervin sessions as I've only heard them a few times.) Byard sounds a lot like Andrew Hill on this session. There's a little bit of Cecil Taylor as well, and he's got some of the musical logic of Monk. He is simply a delight to listen to on this album. Williams is awesome! No other word. I love his cymbal work. Rivers plays well to my ears as well. I don't care for music that is really far "out" but this is simply good quality music, and there's enough "in" to satisfy me. I just think this was one of the times where the musicians were really working well together. All the biorythms were in concert! I also agree with a previous poster regarding the sound Byard's piano. It could definitely have been recorded louder. I have no comments to make about Ron Carter at this time. I was kinda focusing on everyone else. We'll save that for further listenings!
  11. Hey!! Terrific idea! Think I'll go do the same.
  12. Sam Rivers, "Fuschia..." Been playing it a bit lately in order to make my post for AOW.
  13. I am all-jazz! Won't even listen to blues music. Basically, I'm trying to really listen to my cd collection. That will take forever!
  14. Bringing a horn on this date? I'll definitely be there either way. Got a website or something, Randy-O? I don't know where the Firefly is exactly.
  15. I didn't think it was necessary to have this poll, but since we did: LOOK AT THE NUMBERS!! This sure aint AAJ. We all love our politics section.
  16. This is a good session and I love Jack Wilson's work. Other favorites are "Easterly Winds" and his contributions on Curtis Amy's "Katanga." (as well as "Something Personal" of course!) Dusty used to sell this for $10-11 range. Haven't checked if it's still there. My cd edition has "Sidewinder" listed as track 8 and there is no track listing for #9. Also, "Sidewinder" appears to be cut off. Anyone else notice this?
  17. Hold on a goddamned minute! Whether or not there should be a political forum is an important issue. Obviously I bow to the will of the majority. But you've recognized that it's an issue. Why otherwise would you have first, segregated it from most of the discussion that goes on here, and secondly, tell members that you could use an ignore function. In addition, you think the premise of the thread silly so you're going to close it for that reason? Do we have censorship here, just because you deem it silly? Or are you going to give me the Tom Evered answer that "it's our board and we can do we want." It is but that belies the point. There's plenty of silly threads that go on this Board and I don't see them being closed. By starting this have I offended anybody? As far as I know I haven't maligned a particular group of people like was done recently. And I haven't called anybody names or insulted them, even though just the other day, somebody asked if I was a narrow mined bigot because I didn't like somebody they didn't like. It's not actually whether or not there should be a political forum that's got me steamed but the fact that you think you should close it because you think it's silly. I'm not usually quick to anger but this has Calm down, Brad. I don't think B-3er meant it that way at all. Truth is that I got the same feeling that this poll seemed wholly superfluous given the changes which had been tabled. My immediate reactions were the same as B-3er's as far as the timing for your thread appeared odd. My understanding is that Mike over at AAJ suggested the idea of a poll on whether or not to start a politics thread. It wasn't suggested by anyone else but the moderator. I would imagine that Jim (b-3er) could reserve that right for himself as well. Now of course, I'm a poll lover so you've definitely got some sympathy from me Hey Brad, don't take it personally. I started a really dumb poll recently on whether or not we should allow Undergroundagent to stay on the board. My poll in retrospect was a lot dumber than yours. B) I sure wish I hadn't started that one, even if I got the idea from someone else to do it.
  18. This might be a silly thing to bring up, but I've heard that the MOMA in New York is probably the world's greatest art museum. Any truth to that? The competition would be fierce: Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Louvre, Madrid's Prado and Uffizi in Florence; Rjiksmuseum (spelling!) in Netherlands (Amsterdam?)
  19. Tennessee looked quite ordinary last night. My guess is that they definitely overlooked the Jets, who are still a tough team. New England is starting to separate themselves a little from the rest of the pack, I think. Belichek never allows the team to overlook games. Don't know how he does it. Come on, Evan...bring it on!!! For what it's worth: my prediction is that New England will win 3 out of their next 4. I think they'll defeat the Dolphins at home in a close contest, then beat Jacksonville, then LOSE to the Jets in the following game. They will then maul the Bills at home in the final game of the season. Final record: 13-3. K.C. will have to lose at least two games if the Pats are to guarantee homefield advantage. I checked K.C.'s wins this year. The best team the defeated was the Dolphins with 8 wins. Easy schedule!!
  20. I began one organ thread myself recently and am slightly disappointed with the response so far. Based on that alone, I would not think that there should be a separate organ forum. Hey guys, give me your thoughts on 60s, 70s organ. The thread is still there.
  21. How else would Johnny live?
  22. I LOVE art museums. Here in Toledo, Ohio we are lucky to have a damned good one. In fact, it is perennially ranked in the top 10 nationally in terms of quality of collection, size of endowment, buidling size, etc. I don't happen to know the others in the top 10 but I know that Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, New York (Met and Guggenheim), Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. all have good ones as well. Then of course there are the museums in Europe. (Couw: make sure you don't post any more pictures of Courbet's "The Origin of Life!" ) Who's been to which ones, and tell us all about it here... I haven't been to many myself. I've seen the one in Chicago and a couple in Paris, France. That's about it. Of course, I did spend three ENTIRE days in the Louvre. The Musee D'Orsay was almost as good. And I also visited the Modern Art museum in Paris (forgot the name) and the Musee Guimet to look at Malraux's stolen stuff!
  23. Anyone else heard Don Patterson's "Dem NY Dues?" That's one good record.
