  1. Thanks! I'll pick this one up eventually. A used bookstore up by Wrigley Field had brand new hardcover copies of "Humpty Dumpty in Oakland" for just $5. Its the same publisher that's been releasing these non-sci fi PKD novels over the past few years. I'm glad they're seeing the light of day again.
  2. How's this one? It was recently released in hardcover.. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0765316943/ref=s9_newr_bw_tr01?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_r=1V7VJF7SFTSZVWXMZDD2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=41171042&pf_rd_i=283155
  3. Well, James Cameron pretty much developed the technology himself, so while Scott or Jackson may make better movies in the future using this technology, it will all be due to Cameron's innovation. Most of Cameron's movies have been like that....say what you will about the stories, but from a technological standpoint, they set the standard.
  4. My apologies...I should have phrased it as "lower division club" beating the "higher division club"
  5. It was a fantastic match! Leeds played with so much heart. I love seeing these little clubs take out the big guys. And Man U fielded a very strong team too.
  6. Spinning this one on this icy Christmas Eve morning. I've always really liked this session. Its actually my favorite Hubbard Blue Note session right along with "Here To Stay", but I notice that it doesn't seem to make many folks' lists of favorite Hubbard recordings. I think what appeals to me the most is the excellent compositions they chose for this session, and the way the band seems to understand them and really just dig in. The songs are varied and the playing is on a very high level. It makes for a very entertaining listen. What do you guys think about this session? P.S. I think I may have mentioned this in another thread at some point, but I just LOVE the way Philly Joe Jones' drums sound when they were recorded by RVG!
  7. like Aggie87 said, Avatar is incredible. Its advances the possibilities of what movies can be. The visuals are simply stunning. See it in 3D...IMAX if possible.
  8. I'm absolutely loving the Premier League this season. Its much more competitive and its nice not to have a clear "Big Four" right from the start. Plus, if Arsenal loses this game against Hull, my Villans are in third place! By the way, its been confirmed that Mark Hughes has been sacked. Quite impatient, those Man City owners.
  9. I saw an episode. If I was of Italian descent, I would be extremely embarrassed.
  10. Amazing! I can't imagine what the mood in the Liverpool dressing room must be like. There's already rumors of a Gerrard exit next summer.
  11. South Park called it "Dancing with Smurfs" I'll be seeing it this afternoon on 3D IMAX. Can't wait.
  12. My girlfriend bought me the Stereo box set for Christmas and let me open it early, as I've been foaming at the mouth for this set since its release but had no way of getting it due to my financial situation at the moment. My history with the Beatles goes back to my college days in the 90's, and to make a long story short, their music (well, the albums from Help! through Abbey Road) changed me and at the same time got me started on the musical journey which ultimately led to my love of jazz. I've worked my way through the entire set as of this morning, and there's just two impressions that I want to share. First, the sound is wonderful. The only other Beatles I've heard are the 1987 CD's. If I've ever heard a mono version, I didn't notice. But the new sound is just really, really great. It sounds so vivid and dreamy, especially the later albums. I can't say enough about it. The White Album sounds unreal. Second, the early Beatles albums are awesome. Although I've heard a great deal of the songs before, I had never in my life sat down and listened to "Please Please Me", "With The Beatles", "A Hard Day's Night" and "Beatles For Sale" in their entirety before. It was a revelation. I feel like I finally understand to a degree why they took the world by storm. Those are some fine rock n roll albums. Listening to this set from the beginning to end is enough to really make you fall in love with the band all over again.
  13. I bought this box set for my dad about 5 years ago for his birthday. I gave the whole set a listen at one point over a weekend, and I remember really liking the majority of it. The only stuff I didn't care for was the 1980's version of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, but it was easily overshadowed by all the other great stuff in the set. The Shakti stuff, the duo sets, and the band with Joey DeFrancesco are the ones I remember as being particularly impressive.

    John Lennon

I've been listening to alot of John lately, since my girlfriend bought me the Beatles Box Set and my buddy got Beatles Rock Band on the PS3. John was a genius no doubt, both in the world of music, and in the world. I'm glad he'll live forever.
  15. Ella Fitzgerald's "Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas" is my favorite, along with "A Charlie Brown Christmas"
  16. So who do you think is going to be England's #1 keeper? It seems like they have a surplus in every position except for goalie. David James hardly seems like the ideal choice anymore. I'm curious to know who the USA are going to be firing shots at on day 2
  17. Seemingly like many others, I didn't buy a whole lot of music this year. But these three new releases really stand out for me: Von Freeman - "Vonski Speaks" Matt Wilson - "That's Gonna Leave A Mark" Fly - "Sky & Country"

    David Binney

I own "Bastion of Sanity" and like it very much.
  19. Five years ago I purchased the Verve reissue of Kirk In Copenhagen, gave it one listen, and never touched it again. Today, as I work my way through my entire jazz collection determining which CD's I want to put on my iPod, I gave this one another spin, and my opinion is exactly the same. There is only one reason for that: J.C. Moses. Does anybody else find his drumming on this recording absolutely horrid? Its the percussive equivalent of metal scratching a chalkboard. He sounds like he must have been high as hell or drunk or something because he's constantly losing the beat and breaking the swing established by the rest of the band. Many of his snare accents sound so absolutely ridiculous in their randomness. Its like he was thinking to himself "Let me accent HERE.......and HERE...because I CAN!" He throws breaks in the middle of the build-up of Kirk's solos and sounds like he's hearing something else completely other than the music being played by his band mates. This is some of the worst drumming I have ever heard on a jazz recording. The strange thing is that I know this guy isn't a bad drummer. He sounds great on some of Eric Dolphy's studio recordings. But something had to be wrong with him evening. A shame really, because as I forced myself to listen to this, Rahsaan is blowing some really incredible stuff here. Too bad. I wish I could find a way to ignore it, but the drums are so loud here, and I'm a drummer myself, so that's pretty much impossible.
  20. Yeah, group A is tough. If I'm wrong about this, I apologize, because I'm in bed with a horrible cold and don't feel like researching, but I'm pretty sure.other than group G, group A is the only other group with three top 20 ranked teams. According to this blog page, the toughest group by average rankings is group H (it has three top-20 teams). Three Spanish speaking nations in that group too. Should be fun group to watch. Hopefully the refs will be able to speak/understand Spanish.

  22. And if Argentina's run of form from WC qualifiers continues, it could also end up being the most unentertaining group.
  23. Group D should be interesting too. Serbia looked great in qualifying and seems to be improving as a footballing nation by leaps and bounds. And Ghana has alot of talent in their squad.
  24. Well, an exciting day for the world of football, as the drawing for group play in the World Cup took place today. I wouldn't say that there's a clear cut "Group of Death" this time around, but group G with Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast and Portugal looks to be toughest. I was jumping for joy when Mexico got drawn into seeded South Africa's group, but the arrival of Uruguay and finally France sucked the joy out of me. That is going to be a tough fight. And USA vs. England should be a tasty showdown!
