  1. Tristano/Konitz/Marsh Mosaic. I like the Marsh material and the solo Tristano recordings, but the rest puts me to sleep. I just don't get Lee Konitz. I know....my loss.
  2. Kind of lame, as Liverpool seems poised to be the best team in the EPL next season. But then again, moving to the La Liga seems to be the "sexy" thing to do this summer if you're one of the best players in the world, as Xabi surely is.
  3. What exactly is Man City planning on doing with all these strikers? They now have Tevez, Craig Bellamy, Robinho, Roque Santa Cruz, and there's reports circulating that they're about to sign Emmanuel Adebayor, and are interested in David Tregezuet. I'm going to laugh if they don't crack the top 5 next year. BREAKING NEWS: Manchester City Sign Carlos Tevez, Pending Medical The Argentine has agreed a five-year contract at Eastlands, and will make the switch very soon. Carlos Tevez is to join Manchester City, having agreed to a five-year contract with the Eastlands club, and will sign this week once the formality of a medical has been completed. He will wear the number 32 shirt, the club's official website confirms. City gaffer Mark Hughes clearly very pleased to have finally snared the Argentina international, who moves, of course, from the Sky Blues' great rivals Manchester United, telling the club's official website, "It is terrific news. Carlos is an international player of the highest class who possesses all the attributes that will help drive this club forward. "He is not only outstanding technically but he is a reliable goal scorer and someone who will contribute fully to the team ethic. He gives us another exciting, attacking dimension. "I cannot wait to welcome him to City. This is yet another deal that shows the commitment of the owner Sheikh Mansour to make this club the very best it can possibly be. I am sure our fans will give Carlos an exceptionally warm welcome."
  4. If we're thinking about the same thing, I think you may be thinking about Michael Bay? Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding you. Anyways, I saw the film and it was enjoyable enough, if not profound. Technically excellent with lots of good gunfights and a nice performance by Depp, as well as by the luminous Marion Cotillard. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite actresses. And the sound was incredible. At the same time, the film didn't have much of an emotional core.
  5. I'm leaving in 20 minutes to go see it. Will post thoughts later.
  6. "The Mexican Revolution" - Adolfo Gilly
  7. I like both sets very much. The Jones is incredible...it was a real eye opener. I'm not crazy about the material on the third disc of the Weston set, but the material on the first two discs is essential.
  8. I watched the memorial service on TV and thought it was a very fitting tribute to the man. Some excellent speeches and performances. His daughter Paris spoke briefly at the end but couldn't finish because she was too distraught. It was very sad.
  9. Picked up a used copy of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" yesterday in Ithaca, NY.
  10. I wonder how much Owen is getting paid? But regardless, its an interesting acquisition for Man U. I'm interested to see how he'll do, assuming he stays healthy.
  11. I'm 31. And Thriller is the first album I ever fell in love with. Regardless of whatever your personal feelings are about the man, the fact is that his music touched millions, myself included. I'm sad to hear that he died. RIP.
  12. Cant wait until tomorrow! Bring on Brazil!!!
  13. I spent the weekend with my girlfriend. I've only been dating her a few months, but there's something special about this one. She makes me smile!
  14. Elvin Jones - the session with Lee Morgan. Nice stuff, but not nearly as enjoyable as the trio sessions with Joe Farrell IMO.
  15. Personally, I think that's his most underrated book. The idea of a sympathetic Nazi character (yeah, I know it's more complicated than that) still boggles my mind. That's good to hear. I'm enjoying it so far. I read another one recently that also seems to be underrated, "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater"
  16. "Mother Night" - Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
  17. an ABSOLUTE THRILLER today in the form of the Brazil/Egypt match!
  18. Anybody watch the Confederations Cup today? The two groups are severely misbalanced, and today's games showed that. The Iraq/South Africa match was like watching a bunch of 10 year olds play. And I was embarrassed for New Zealand, who got absolutely annihilated by Spain, who is certain to make it to the final two weeks from today. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's action...Egypt is a strong team, and while I'm not expecting them to beat Brazil, I'm hoping they at least put up a good fight. The USA/Italy game should be more fun.
  19. "Less Than Zero" - Bret Easton Ellis
  20. David Villa is awesome. Great goal scoring instinct and he's a hard worker.
  21. I'm putting my money on Anderson, after a few years of course.
  22. Looks like they might be getting David Villa too. Another Galacticos era it seems.
  23. Is this another Tony Scott movie? The guy hasn't made a good movie since Revenge IMO.
  24. How does it hold up? I still have lots of respect for Camus, but somehow I tend to file most of his books in the "stuff I liked when I was 16" box... the post-humous "Le premier homme" might be different, and also more generally his philosophical position seems to hold up quite well (much better than Sartre's, for sure), but I'm no expert there... Well, I'll be 32 this year, and this was my first experience reading The Stranger. As my personal feelings of isolation, anxiety and hopelessness haven't really receded with age, I thought it was a fantastic read that really hit home.
  25. "The Stranger" - Albert Camus
