Geographical distribution of your jazz collection
sal replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Miscellaneous Music
If I had to guess, it would be USA 95%, rest of World 5% based on about 1000 recordings -
I got dragged to this when it was in theaters. Big waste of time IMO

Well, I don't get many chances to see Liverpool play, and this may have nothing to do with what may be happening, but I remember seeing several Liverpool matches over the past couple seasons and Xabi Alonso was really a dynamic presence on the pitch. They don't look like the same team without him. Of course, I know this probably doesn't have much to do with what you're talking about Cliff. There is probably something going on with the coaching staff/management or some locker room issues. But Xabi was, in a way, the glue that held them together. I'm sure his loss hurts the team.

Well, I can't deny the fact that I'm elated...a win against Liverpool is HUGE for Villa, especially after such a sluggish start to the new campaign. I'm very, very encouraged by the performance of Villa's defense, who got touches on practically every ball that came to them. Some moments of Liverpool's second half onslaught were downright scary, but the defense held it down and did great. This just made my week! I hope they can ride the wave of this and take out Fulham this weekend, as well as that club from Vienna in mid week Europa League play. Sorry Cliff!

sal is very happy!! but this is Liverpool we're dealing with here. they're capable of anything, so I'm not getting too excited yet.

Man United just went apeshit on Wigan, with Rooney bagging his 100th and Michael Owen his 1st for the club. Game of the week is gonna have to be Liverpool vs. Aston Villa on Monday. Who are the Liverpool fans out there? My Villans are coming for you!

AMEN! Doesn't get any better

Cool! I'm eating up the Battlestar Galactica DVDs right now. One of the best television shows I've ever seen. Back to topic...I'll be seeing Inglorious Bastards next week. Can't wait!

I've got almost every available Miles Davis recording between Birth of the Cool and Pangaea. I'm trying to amass every recording Coltrane put out as well. They're my only two "completist" artists.

I'll be there! Looking forward to seeing you Mark, and any other board members who may be going (Rob, Eric, Jeff, etc..). I'll most likely be skipping the aftersets this year, as money is tight. But I'll be attending as many of the free shows as I possibly can.

Arsenal was looking good. I'm dissappointed about Villa's loss.

A Wild Sheep Chase is a wonderful book! You should also read his books Sputnik Sweetheart and Kafka On The Shore as well! AWSC is my first Murakami book, and based on what I've read so far, I'll eventually read everything he's ever written. He's clearly a special author.

I just finished reading Thomas Pynchon's "The Crying of Lot 49". Talk about an unforgettable read. That book was a trip in every sense of the word. I'm now reading "A Wild Sheep Chase" by Haruki Murakami.

Thanks!

Is anybody as excited about tomorrow's USA/Mexico World Cup Qualifier as I am? These matches are always hard for me, having an american born mother and a mexican born father. But I love seeing the intense rivalry come to life through very physical play and rowdy fans. I'm predicting a mexico win, not only because its at Azteca Stadium, but Mexico is riding that wave right now. By the way, RIP to Daniel Jarque. That was very sad to hear about.

Chuck, any chance you could post the large cover art files for your reissues in this thread, like you did for the Charles Tyler and Leo Smith reissues that came out earlier this year? Those were nice to use for itunes and the ipod cover art. Thanks! By the way, I'm greatly enjoying Congliptious...great music! Can't wait for the Bowie.

I also really enjoy "Quiet". Might be my favorite disc of his. The arrangements are sublime...and its got Wayne Shorter! "EnRoute" is probably the best demonstration of him in a trio format. Its a burning, live disc with Steve Swallow and Bill Stewart, who just kill it. And if you like Groove Elation, you may like "A-Go-Go", an album he did with Medeski Martin & Wood. Those are probably my 3 favorite Scofield albums. Check out Trio Beyond's "Saudades" for some more great Scofield alongside Larry Goldings and Jack DeJohnette.

It was a seemingly ridiculous deal, but I have always heard that Pep and Eto'o had some major personality conflicts. Seems like Eto'o had to go. And who else was Barca capable of acquiring that could fill Eto'o's shoes? Besides Ibrahimovic, maybe only David Villa?

I really like the Parlan set alot. Especially the sessions with Booker Ervin.

Hey, me too! Good taste is timeless. Would love to hear your guys' thoughts on this book if you don't mind! I've been considering picking this one up. It sounds interesting, but I must admit I was drawn to it at first by the very cool cover!

This was one of the first sets I put on my iPod when I got one, and its made the music a bit more accessible to listen to in a physical sense (similar to most of my other CD box sets that I've converted to digital format). Its a marvelously creative musical spell that is documented. My appreciation of this music grows with time.
