I'm in 'catch up' mode myself, and haven't read Banks yet. Would you recommend Surface Detail as a starting point? I was going to go with Consider Phlebas, but I haven't a clue.

Never heard of it, but it's on Amazon Prime, so I gave it a shot and watched about fifteen minutes of the first episode. No, I wouldn't call it a comedy. Maybe it's because I don't watch TV anymore and have missed the whole "reality TV" thing, but that was the most uncomfortable ten minutes I've ever spent in front of a screen. The bit with the housekeeper was mildly amusing, but most of it was just...uncomfortable.
