  2. This is the first year I've paid attention to football since the Falcon's trip to the Superbowl (now officially "way back when"), so unless they're old, I don't know who's a star and who isn't. he Cowboys look to me like one of those plodding 7-9 teams that just don't have it.

  4. Yeah, I think I'll quietly step off of the Favre bandwagon at this point.
  5. I used to love those inner sleeves that had row after row of LPs. But then, I get nostalgic over those old Warner Bros/Reprise sampler LPs. I think I'm getting to the 'old and cranky' stage; I'm starting to say things like "back in my day, we not only listened to the whole song, we listened to a whole side!", which gets responses like "what's a side, grandpa?".
  6. Yeah, I know it's a real band. I was quoting Monty Python...as usual. Heck, I thought it was fake...didn't even notice the 'Z'!

  8. Wow. I actually picked Detroit? I guess I'll give up and go buy my own jar of honey...
  9. Hell, it's a different experience even doing both at your desk. There is no way I'm going to sit at a computer and read a novel, for instance, on line. People can put all the public domain stuff they want on the web; if I want to read Dickens and don't have the novel I'm looking for, I'll go get the damned book, not waste my time and my precious eyesight on the web. It's the inappropriate use of technology that is eroding the attention span of readers; this rush to replace books with electronic devices sounds as silly to me as that idea decades ago of a house with everything controlled from one central area that (thankfully) faded away.
  10. I haven't read Lovecraft since I was a teen. Back then it was pretty much "damn, this guy writes horribly...are those doors locked?"

  12. I was shocked. And stunned.
  13. I hate first weeks; the results only give clues. For example, are the 49ers that much worse than I thought, or are the Seahawks that much better? Hard to tell with just the one game.

  15. Well, so far, pretty close! I can't believe I used to play (and do fairly well) in a pool that was against the point spread. Of course, that was thirty years ago when I knew something about the players. This Romo guy is certainly no Joe Montana...
  16. And I hope that if he doesn't, his score isn't -1!
  17. Ah, I didn't think of that!
  18. http://zam.krowzi.com/pics/1920.swf I have a friend who's curious, and I have no idea...

  21. Oh well, there's nowhere to go but up now...
  22. Hah! Suckers; no faith in St. Favre....
  23. No problem for me, but I had my picks in a couple of weeks ago...I'm a number cruncher, not a fan. Well, it used to work...
  24. Seriously. I'm picturing Harry Truman holding up a newspaper with "JIM WINS!" as the headline.
