    Discogs only lists "recorded at Contemporary Studios," but I wonder if Roy DuNann was the engineer (in 1969?). Lester Koenig produced. This is prime Sonny Simmons, but the album, in my opinion, really belongs to Barbara Donald. Some of her finest solos. The ghost of Booker Little smiled during the recording.

    Playing this one right now. Sound is so much better than on the old Black Lion CD. Bass is less muffled, stereo separation is cleaner. Peter Pfister didn't remaster this one; instead, one Michael Brändli.

    Have you heard Trinity? It's a good record, though (for my own taste) I think Favre overplays. There are a few smaller cymbals that he just won't leave alone. Still, the overall vibe of the album makes it worth hearing/owning. It was recently reissued in Japan (on compact disc). "Trinity"

    Nice! I checked Discogs and the 3-disc Japanese set and the 2-disc U.S. set appear to have the same number of tracks (23) ... ? I need to spin this set again soon ...

    Just click on that YouTube link (above) and let it spin ... It's currently available at CD Japan and Dusty Groove (and likely many other places as well). 1500¥. The opening of the first track reminds me of The Solar Myth Approach. Later on there's definitely a Mingus vibe. I haven't heard that one! Must.

    Three compact discs? I have the 2-disc set that Concord put out; didn't know there was a 3-disc set. Regardless, a favorite; it's nice to hear Red's working trio. M-Squad!

    Bringing things (at least momentarily) back on topic ... fans of Japanese Jazz need to hear this album: Jazz Orchestra '73 If this album were a cocktail (of influences), then the mixture might be, in nearly equal parts: • Sun Ra • Charles Mingus • Woody Herman • Toshiko Akiyoshi • Henry Threadgill (possibly) Terumasa Hino has some standout solos.
