  1. don't knock it 'till you've tried it.
  2. Is that why I'm such an asshole?
  3. I'm going Thursday night - got my tix yesterday. I think it's Abercrombie at Birdland on Thursday for me. You know the two big modern jazz guitarists that I've never been able to get into are Abercrombie and Matheny. Can you recommend a good entry point? Metheny recommendations are easy to find, I like the early stuff, Bright Size Life, Watercolors, New Chautauqua, Off Ramp. I'll start a thread on Abercrombie in a few days. I've been working on a discography that will be on the web soon. He's done a lot, particularly as a side man. I want to be careful about what to recommend.

  5. OK, it's sorta like this, except my desktop only shows the hands and the guitar. They have a real nice high resolution version too. note the very cool tail piece and bridge.
  6. yes, happy birthday!
  7. I think the real news - and I didn't read the entire article - is that he didn't get arrested.
  8. I'll wait for the Police live DVD. Maybe it'll come on TV in the middle of the night in a few years or I'll find it in the trash for free.
  9. Yeah, I like a small venue too. In the same spirit, North Indian Classical music is best at a house concert. It's right "there" man.
  10. I thought I'd like the Mule, but what I have heard so far (the 4-disc live set) hasn't made me want to hear any more. I don't have any idea what those other bands are. A few guys I work with are really excited about this festival, and the music they listen to is that angry-young-man screaming over heavily processed, badly played modern metal stuff that is popular today, so I doubt I would like much of that. I used to like Wilco when they did country; did they play last year when Son Volt was there? That could have been interesting. NMA are/were a blues band from North Mississippi, much different than the Delta/Chicago stylings we've all heard over the years. The Black Keys, a gtr/drum duo are a rockier band coming from the same place with gtr solos that are a bit noisier than melodic guitar hero. Blood is the mud of the earth. He used to play with Ornette many years ago.
  11. pm some, I'll check it out.
  12. Not even Blood? I like his music, it's gotta be good enough for at least a casual listen.
  13. I spun it a few times, it didn't particularly grab me. I really don't know what the problem was. I should try again soon. It took me a while to figure that out. I may not listen to this as often as the other early albums, but it's good stuff.
  14. And in good company. He be funny.
  15. Maybe. How big was the crowd that saw him with the Dead?
  16. ...and why exactly is it you know that? Kerrang subscription.
  17. I read the whole paper, cover to cover. Can't help it. I read everything, down to the obits and the classified ads. Do you send letters to the editor commenting on the obits?
  18. Love your nails...you must be a librarian.
  19. Another Green World & Before and after Science really knck me out. Here Come the Warm Jets & Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) are fun too. I love the ambient albums, but by The Shutov Assembly he starts to loose me. I'm really glad he introduced me to Harold Budd & Jon Hassell. To this day, I think Budd is amazing. I really hope his installations are more interesting then what I've experienced.
