  1. I still haven't got it yet. I'm hoping that it'll be this weekend. Haven't taken the time, but I've already convinced a couple of other people to pick it up. Did you get your copy yet?
  2. I'm weary. I think I might dislike Santana as much as I like Alice. Well I generally dislike Santana outside of his blues latinboogaloo bag. But this one. . . I find that Alice's framework allows him to literally soar and I find it beautiful. What he said.
  3. The Warner Bros. albums were kinda la-la. Is that what you're referring to?
  4. Alice Coltrane on Impulse.
  5. He's been using it for years.
  6. And I enjoyed the SNL tunes, I'm all revved up for the new CD now!
  7. How was it? I'm listening to a boot of her Radio City Music Hall show from last night right now. Sounds good to me...
  8. They also play Ogunde by John Coltrane. I heard this group at the Village Jazz Festival (at the Village Gate) back in the late '80s.
  9. Got it on order from Jazz Loft. Should be here any day now. Has a version of Ornette's Lonely Woman - can't wait. I have it. Plays wood floote on Lonely Woman.
  10. Wow, I'll miss him. He always cracked me up.
  11. I think so. I always thought of it as a major Ornette release and one of my favorites.

    Marc Johnson

I just picked up a used copy of this and I'm pretty happy with it. Don't know why I put off buying it so long...
  13. Oh yes, it's a great album. I'd put it up there with Discipline. Kinda sounds like it too.
  14. Other Music just opened their download site a few days ago.
  15. 30, eh? Party on Garth...
  16. One of my favorites, I even kinda wish Ornette would have recorded on tenor a bit more.
  17. I sat next to the bald guy from Smashing Pumpkins at a concert at BAM a few years ago. (big deal, him and his girlfriend were snickering during the Terry Riley piece). I passed one the guys from Spinal Tap on the street in the West Village once. (Michael McKean) Same goes for Henry Rollins in the East Village. Then Mayor Rudolph Giuliani was walking down the stairs in Tower Records with some bodyguards and I was behind them. Passed Weird Al and some staff guys from MAD Magazine on 52nd St once. I saw Miles once too, but I don't think that counts. I'll have more when I can dredge them up from memory...
  18. John McLaughlin at MySpace.com
  19. pick, pick, pick, pick, boing! pick, pick, pick, pick, boing! pick, pick, pick, pick, boing! Happy Birthday!
  20. The review that is the most negative is done by someone who doesn't seem to have heard Torn's music in a very long time.
