  1. So do you learn new stuff mostly from sheet music? or from tabs? or by ear? I primarily play my own non-jazz music in public, but I've been playing tunes from fake books for fun. I never was any good at learning jazz off recordings. Rock, yes. Jazz, no.
  2. I think being able to read is a plus.
  3. I'm driving over there in the morning with a buddy who's looking for an inexpensive bass.
  4. So where's the picture of the Jazz Bass? Ok, let me get it together... These shots don't look too good, so I'll try other later. Nothing special looking, it's candy apple red. year = 96.
  5. So where's the picture of the Jazz Bass? Ok, let me get it together...
  6. He agreed to it. I wouldn't feel bad. I give friends really good deals anyway. Heck, I've given more guitars away than most people will ever own. I'm sure he was happy that you got the bass. He was and I've given away a few myself. WTF...
  7. I don't think I should fell bad about it unless I sell it for a profit. Right?
  8. That's a great resolution! How do you get such great deals? You must have some good friends. It averages out. A friend of mine left it here 7/2000 and I played for a week or so then I started jonesing for the fretless bass and bought the Music Man bass. A year later he took it back. Last year he sold it to me because he needed money for legal fees. I was about to say $450 and before he said $400, $350 so I said OK. Sounds unfriend like, but I wear rubbers. Now I notice that batteries don't last too long in this Fender bass like they do in the Music Man. So..........back to the Music Man.
  9. Cool! It must be a kick to play that neck. Beautiful guitar! It's fun but neglected. I haven't played it in about a year, but it will be getting more attention soon. Today I'm playing a Fender Deluxe (active) Jazz bass I got very cheap last year. $350, no doubt less than 1/2 the going resale price. All in my accord with my New Years resolution to play more guitar this year!
  10. As promised, one of my G&L S-500.
  11. The Organissimo Guitar Corner has Ron for dinner: Thinking of the street smart thread.
  12. six but on strange days, seven or eight. DUH, stupid me! Of course there are 6. One for each finger. you're smart. you learn fast. we'll have you for dinner.
  13. Yeah, this is the lesson where I got screwed up the last time I tried to learn. Now, how many strings are there again? six but on strange days, seven or eight.
  14. Sorry to hear that! I'll have a photo of my fretless later. Too much sunlight causes problems with my el-cheapo digital camera.
  15. They really do know how to finish a guitar well. I asked them if I could get a purple burst and they said they were still looking to get it together.
  16. I have a pair of S-500s. The microtonal one is cobalt blue and the fretless is a real nice cherry burst. But I lust for a Tele/ASAT...
  17. I like the ASATs with F-holes. Last fall, I traded for a ASAT Classic semi-hollow with f-hole. The guitar is really nice. It's a lively guitar. I haven't tried it at high volume, so I don't know how it will do with feedback. I tried a G&L Blues Boy a few years ago and could have gotten a wholesale price on it. Dumb move too. Doh! Buffalo Bros prices seem to be about 62% of list price. They usually have a decent selection. The credit card situation was tight at the time. That's life.
  18. I see over at Harmony Central, they're complaining about the Korean electronics, bad pots....
  19. I'll buy it locally. So you don't think the Korean Legacys compare with the American ones?

  21. I was wondering what happened!
  22. You can still find some good deals on used G&L's, but it's getting harder. It seems like the secret is out... You should also check the guitarsbyleo message board. I know there's deals sometimes in their classifieds. guitarsbyleo.com marketplace I know about that site, I'm looking at Harmony Central now. Used is the way I want to go. I just noticed that a Mom & Pop music store is carrying G&Ls. And those MUST be Leagacys, unless someone there decide to take the serious leap into guitar sales. AB, how do you feel about ASAT/Teles with an F hole?
  23. Doing research on G&L Legacy ASATs. I didn't realise how cheap these things are.
  24. It was the last one I worked in before getting into computers and into an office.
