  2. i think it's both interesting and telling that this thread contains no less than 13 reprints or links to obits written in praise of OP. i cannot recall the same kind of treatment being given to any other artist upon his/her death on this board. frankly, it feels like i'm being hit over the head with a "he was the greatest - he influenced everyone - now weep" declaration. mind you, i do not for one second believe this was intended or planned by any member. it's just how i experienced it. at the same time, i wonder if some of the "detracors'" posts might not reflect a backlash against this kind of idoltry. personally, i'm much more moved by people's remarks about how or why they liked him and his music than any critic's assessment of OP's place in jazz history. btw, i do take offense to garth's repeated claim that if you disagree with him and dis OP, it's because you're bitter and jealous. sure, some people may resent what they consider a lesser talent receiving excessive praise (can't wait for the reactions to the deaths of w. marsalis and kenny g). but that ain't the end of it, not by a long shot. like it or not, many jazz fans didn't like OP's style of playing. i suggest you grow up, get over it, and enjoy OP's music without telling the rest of us how we think or what our feelings should be upon his passing. rob, from overcast waltham, ma

  13. just for the heck of it, i did a search of all the best buy stores in more than ten states. not one of them has this listed as "available," so it will be interesting if you (and i'm sure there are others here) actually receive it. good luck.

sorry, but if this is what passes for "controversy," than maybe it is time to put the big "O" to rest. mind you, i'm talking about the board, not the band.

  18. apparently, neither do they: The record is played on one of an array of direct-drive Numark TT200 turntables.
  19. anybody have an opinion about this part of their process? Trimming & Amplification The digital sound files are then trimmed to remove the silent "leader space" at the beginning and end of each side, so that only the full audio program remains. They are then amplified to the maximum possible volume to fully exploit the CDs 16-bit dynamic range. The amplified 24-bit sound files are then down-sampled to 16 bit stereo, the resolution of an audio CD. At this point, we have two fully-processed sound files, one for each of the record's sides. and again: Do you do normalization? Sure. Every side of every record is amplified to just max-out a CD or MP3 file's dynamic range. This always comes out perfect because all records are originally mastered so that each cut has the same volume as its neighbors.
  20. "Did I act inappropriately?" I think so, as Amazon's policy states: When you buy an item from a seller at Amazon Marketplace, you should be able to expect a high standard of customer service, both before and after you receive your order. If you receive an item different than what was described, or that is clearly in worse condition than indicated, please contact your seller directly to report the defect or damage within 7 days of receiving the shipment. You should be able to reach an amicable agreement with one another. If necessary, you can return your item to the seller for a refund. "Should I accept the quid pro quo of the refund for removing the feedback comment?" I think you should remove the negative feedback regardless of the seller's offer. Again, Amazon states: If you're tempted to leave a critical rating, make sure that you've given the seller every chance to resolve the issue first.
