there are many reasons to love singin' in the rain. one of them is donald o'connor. roger ebert called o'connor's feature in the film make 'em laugh "the most sensational solo number in the history of musical comedy." Now you could study Shakespeare and be quite elite. And you can charm the critics and have nothin' to eat. Just slip on a banana peel, the world's at your feet. Make 'em laugh. Make 'em laugh. Make 'em laugh. You start off by pretending you're a dancer with grace. You wiggle 'till they're giggling all over the place. And then you get a great big custard pie in the face. Make 'em laugh. Make 'em laugh. Make 'em laugh.

just don't feed your chocolate-engorged mouse to a cat or dog! for dog-owners that feel guilty about denying their dog chocolate, there are many treats made of carob, such as the collie-eclair below. P.S. my cat Nica, who turned 14 a few days ago, LOVES cheese...and ham...and spaghetti sauce...and butter...and cold cuts...and roast pork yaka mein soup...and pretty much everything else that's edible in the apartment. And of course, she really digs jazz.

scottb - I don't know if you were kidding, but you should NEVER give chocolate to cats or dogs. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is particularly toxic to dogs and can be fatal. Although chocolate is equally bad for cats, they're more finicky and often won't eat it. If your cat eats chocolate, treat the situation as life threatening. Cats are small and it takes less chocolate to kill them. Hardbopjazz - have you or your co-workers contacted the local animal control officer or humane society? Even when using a "have-a-heart" trap, the experience of being trapped could possibly cause an animal to go into shock. I used to volunteer at the local animal shelter and saw it happen several times. As an animal lover, I applaud your sensitivity and your efforts. I just hope it's done right. Good luck.

paul, to increase your chances of getting a reply to your inquiry, you might want to post this in the "offering and looking for" forum. also, there's no need to yell. most of us have very good hearing. if you don't believe me, check out our obsessive discussions on comparing different remasters. The Village Vanguard turns 70 in February

It's possible that the Copenhagen club Montmartre may have hosted more live recordings. I'm certain that's true if you consider only the time period during the sixties and seventies when it was open. -

"Boppin' in Beantown" this week on Night Lights
robviti replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
thanks for the night lights link. i'm going to enjoy listening to their archived shows. to your knowledge, are there any other jazz radio programs archived on the web? -
you're right, it's not the best adjective to describe the fact that blue note licensed these titles to time-life for a limited time to be sold only in europe. the fact that distributors have violated that agreement and made them available to retailers in the u.s. makes them, shall we say, illicit? regardless, they're a guilty pleasure that many of us here have enjoyed. What have you done for a living?
robviti replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Oh yes, I remember on an old BNBB thread that, unbeknowst to one another, we were both inside 'Pooh's Pub' the night the news broke about Lennon being shot? I was at the bar. That was you, correct? wow, i forgot about that. yes, that was me playing in a fusion septet. -

when i was a musician in the mid-70's to 80's, i paid the bills at different times by working as a car washer in an auto dealership, an assembly line worker in a picture frame factory, an undercover security officer in a department store, and a door-to-door fuller brush salesman. -
in case you're interested, these dubious reissues have been the topic of discussion before on this board: spanish blue notes

from the american-digital website: "Accelerated aging tests show that MAM Gold can be used as a reliable storage media for more than 300 years. " so my question is this: are you planning on being around in 2305? p.s. i don't buy crappy cdrs either. i find the klones (manufactured by mitsui) suit my needs quite well.

i've also enjoyed a few of the horne mysteries. while i agree they're not pulitzer material, where else can you find intelligent fiction that contains that much insight into the jazz world? great vacation books. i plan on reading all of them. -

has anyone here been shushed by lorraine gordon besides kevin b. and me? obviously, illinois jacquet didn't like it one bit! p.s. i won't make it to the anniversary celebration, but i will be going the following week to see the jeremy pelt quintet. long live the vanguard! -
there seems to be quite a range of prices for these discs. amazon sells the 50-pack for $18, while office depot has the same spindle for $31! note: there's a $4 rebate that expires on 1/31. there might be a question about the maximum burning speed for these discs. here's what one person wrote on epinions: "I called Verbatim to ask about getting a refund and they agreed to send me 4 new discs to replace the ones that were coasters. Then they told me that these discs will not burn reliably at speeds faster than 12x! I said, "What?! It doesn't say that anywhere on the box!" But the Verbatim rep on the phone insisted that was why I had the 4 bad burns, and if I burned the other ones, they'd be fine if I burned at 12x or less. I did, and in fact did have no more coasters. "

i really enjoyed traffic's intelligent mix of different stles during their heyday. i was unaware of capaldi's humanitarian efforts later in life. it's heartwarming to learn how musicians like capaldi (and george harrison, bob geldoff, etc.) who share so much through their art, find other ways to give to the people.

why don't we post on the earlier, more respectful thread 7/4 began and let this one sink to the bottom where it belongs: here's the link: capaldi obit

there's two big differences between the jazz kat and aric: 1) jazz cat is only 15 (that's not meant as a putdown, jk) 2) it took jazz cat only 30 minutes to accept responsibility for his actions and apologize. that's something aric has never been willing to do, no matter how much time he's had.
