  1. just in case you didn't believe me, in a 1968 episode entitled monkees blow their minds, zappa appears as "mike" and mike nesmith as "frank." this scenario recalled a similar role reversal in the monkees 1967 movie head. from head
  2. sorry, but that half.com seller is ca-razy! $45 for Carlos "Patato" Valdes's Masterpiece or Hornucopia by Jon Faddis? Kenny Garrett's Prisoner Of Love for $65?? Then again, maybe he isn't a wack-job. Perhaps that dubious distinction belongs to the poor slob who shells out that kind of money! B-)
  3. hey, i'm an old fart. i can remember: frank zappa on the monkeys lowell george on f troop chad and jeremy on the dick van dyke show the beau brummells on the flintstones the seeds on the mothers-in-law rock on, wayne (newton)!
  4. Hey folks, Could anyone supply me with info on Mosaic 151, The Complete Solid State Recordings of the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Orchestra? This includes track listings, personnel, original releases - the whole shabang. Thanks in advance.
  5. unless "that kind of guy" is selling oop titles at low prices. historically, people on the board don't seem to have a problem with that.
  6. according to amg, joni mitchell's both sides now features "Vince Mendoza's arrangements — a third of them played by a gigantic 71-piece orchestra, a third by a regular-size orchestra, and a third by a swing-style big band."
  7. with all the hectic running around during the holiday season, it's easy to forget the true meaning of christmas. Howdy-Ho!
  8. i thoroughly enjoy reading paul desmond's witty musings on his own recordings. i'm not sure if all of these quotes come from liner notes, but here are some gems: “I think I had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to sound like a dry martini.” “I have won several prizes as the world’s slowest alto player, as well as a special award in 1961 for quietness.” “I was unfashionable before anyone knew who I was.” “I tried practicing for a few weeks and ended up playing too fast.” “Writing is like jazz. It can be learned, but it can’t be taught.” “Our basic audience begins with creaking elderly types of twenty-three and above.”
  9. wait a minute! car fight? claude, i think you'd better speak to my colleague. oh siggy!
  10. you guys are all sick. however, as a mental health professional, it is my ethical duty to research this phenomena extensively so i can treat your disorder competently. for duty, and humanity!
  11. there's nothing new about being a brother, or being a brother looking for money.
  12. I have an opening on Thursday at 2pm. Would you like to make an appointment?
  13. sent you an email.
  14. given the poor state of moncur's chops over the past twenty years (his contribution to the reunion date was indeed tragic), it is not unreasonable to assume that it is woodley, and not moncur, that performs the bone solos. if this is true, i take my hat off to moncur for acknowledging his weaknesses and focusing instead on his strengths as a composer and arranger. btw, woodley has performed in west coast ensembles led lee konitz, pat longo, jack montrose, and in the kenton alumni band.
  15. can anyone provide a link to sam's tour schedule in the u.s.?
  16. i prefer to trade/buy/sell with established members because i'm more apt to trust someone who's proven they have an investment to the board and the community it serves. that doesn't mean newbies can't be trusted, or that all members are trustworthy. but this way, i can feel more comfortable doing business with members i like and trust, and avoid those whom i don't. btw, i have no objection to mr. mingus's original offer. my earlier post was a comment on his quick change in sales tactics. B-)
  17. sorry, i was exhausted and obviously confusing the number of posts with the number of members. anyway, here's to our new member!
  18. couldn't this person have registered as a member some time ago and not post until now?
  19. that's kinda strange, isn't it? why release unissued material before reissuing a long-deleted title? on the other hand, if the new release sells reasonably well, perhaps passion dance will follow. btw, i like your tapscott avatar dsgtrane.
  20. try washing with this stuff. it gives you lots of energy to look stuff up! B-)
  21. you can get it new for as low as 11.98 from various sellers here: amazon marketplace as far as ignorant asses, this is the best i could come up with:
  22. clem, how come you never posted an "insider's" response to my inquiry about the up over?
  23. I'm not sure how up-to-date their listings are, but this website features jazz clubs in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, etc., as well as in Manhattan proper. big apple jazz
  24. Here's four of my favorites from the Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band/Orchestra, the greatest large modern jazz ensemble:
