  1. i like that one. it's short, catchy, and pertinent.
  2. I just heard this on the news. Cause of death reportedly was complications resulting from emphysema. RIP Johnny, and long live Carnac the Magnificent, Floyd R. Turbo, and Art Fern, if only in our memories.

    Eddie Higgins

so, how does one contact mr. higgins? does he have a website?
  4. asking a group of predominantly white males this question might not yield a response representative of your listening audience. unless, of course, your audience is largely made up of white males. i say find another title for the reasons already offered.
  5. actually, the coltrane cd is co-credited to herwig and lynch:

    RVG question

true blue was one of the first conns.
  7. and what about school, young man!
  8. liberal-thinkers get first dibs, don't they?
  9. i've always liked this poster:
  10. "Machito and His Salsa Big Band 1982" (Timeless 161) was also issued as "1983 Grammy Award Winner" (Impulse MCAD 33106). BTW, I didn't realize until now that 1975's "Eastern Rebellion" was Timeless Records's first release.
  11. FYI, the German ACT label was founded in 1992 by Siegfried Loch, former president of Liberty/United Artist Germany (1966-70), WEA Germany (1971-81), and WEA (Warner) Europe (1982-89). Here's a link to their website: ACT
  12. isn't this an argument for insuring my collection. if i were to lose a hard-to-replace title, i'd want adequate compensation to make up for my loss. this would help me afford the high price of a replacement, or allow me to buy a several new titles.
  13. there's a bigger reality to consider: jazz accounts for less than 4% of all cd sales. why would radio programmers offer music that most people don't seem to want during primetime? jazz fans are better represented during the evening and late-night hours on predominantly college and public radio stations while the massess are vegging out on crap tv.
  14. yeah, i'd say that's an accurate deduction... -_- no, not at all. don't take my comments to mean anything of the sort. "I guess you didn't listen too closely because it's a suberb CD..." it's this remark, and your quoted agreement of it, that prompted my response. my point is this: music appreciation is all a matter of opinion, isn't it?
  15. --- t h a n k you! -e- hold on just a minute fellas! someone politely disagrees with your opinion of a recording, so they must not be listening to it properly? it's a superb cd because you say it is? according to amg, round about roma features a "silky smooth jazz touch." they go on to say, "some jazz aficionados may view this production as being a tad synthetic or more conducive to department store music." while i'm sure you don't agree with their assessment, it's an apt description to some people's ears, including my own. the sound clips i've heard of parker's mood, on the other hand, are much more to my liking. still, i wonder why di battista chose the same title as roy hargrove's 1995 tribute to bird?
  16. stewart has a regular tuesday gig at fat cat in nyc. although i've never had the pleasure of seeing him live, i do like his criss cross recording more urban tones and his work on ryan kisor's awakening on the same label. thanks to this thread, i also have an artist to explore: david binney. with 9 leader dates to his credit and many more recorded appearances under his belt, i have to wonder where i've been to not have heard him before.
  17. i've ordered from dg online several times. usually, it's sale-priced items, like the recent french universal titles. when i make my annual pilgrimage to arizona, i stop off in chicago for a few days. a visit to the brick-and-mortar is part of the trip, followed by delicious barbecue at smoke daddy's.
  18. i hate to bother you, but have you received any further word on this show? i checked the websites of uconn and the individual musicians, and the only mention of it appears in dave hazeltine's itinerary. thanks.
  19. thanks for the heads up, mark. i'll be in town the first weekend of april and now i can look forward to catching buster williams while i'm there.
  20. let's skip ahead a few years and take a look at aric's illustrious career in law: NOW PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THIS FIRST SECTION BECAUSE IT'S MOST IMPORTANT. IT SAYS, "THE PARTY OF THE FIRST PART SHALL BE KNOWN IN THIS CONTRACT AS THE PARTY OF THE FIRST PART." HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT? THAT'S PRETTY NEAT, EH? GENTLEMEN...CHICOLINI HERE MAY TALK LIKE AN IDIOT, AND LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT, BUT DON'T LET THAT FOOL YOU...HE REALLY IS AN IDIOT.
  21. jazzshrink thinks that's a good idea. B-)
  22. i strongly recommend people check out jack wilkins's recordings with the brecker brothers, merge and reunion there's also adam rafferty's kush and three souls and here's another for joe diorio's ram recordings

    Dylan SACDs

i don't like the idea of them charging you $5 a month whether or not they send you a cd, especially in light of reports that many titles are backordered or unavailable. just for the sake of argument, i did a search using my current want list. every search resulted in the message: "We're sorry, there are no (Kenny Dorham, Teddy Edwards, Eddie Henderson, Mulgrew Miller, Vincent Herring, etc.) albums available at this time." i don't think this deal is for me.
  24. i wouldn't dream of it. well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
